Very nice staff; their optician was stuck in traffic so I'm unable to review her, but the receptionist was very kind.

Crane Eye Center is located upstairs in the KIUC building in Lihue. Office is bright, clean and inviting. I came in for some prescription sunglasses. The ones I've been using for years were so scratched up and beat up they looked like they've been ran over and buried for a spell... it was time for a upgrade. Off the bat, I can tell you that Crane supports VSP, which is a big plus because "Pacific Eye Center" does not! You'll easily spend over $500 for a nice pair @ Pac. Eye center... The selection here is great! It's catered to Kauai's unique clientele. They had all the good brands! Ray ban, Oakley, Maui Jim to name a few. So much selection- it took me a while to choose. Staff is super friendly and courteous! The whole office staff helped me choose the best sunglasses for work, play and special occasions- I liked the selection so much, I bought 3 pairs! I will be returning here for all my prescription eyewear needs for sure. 5 stars for the staff, service and selection! read more

I wish I could go lower than 1 star. I came in to Crane Eye Care to get a new pair of glasses because my current pair wear very uncomfortable. I purchased a new pair from them and it took one day for them to make them. Very fast considering were on an island. So far so good. But when I came in to pick them up the manager Bryan just handed them to me. He never fitted them or cleaned them. I have never purchased glasses where they didn't fit them. My wife even asked if he was going to fit them and he said that he already had. That was a lie. I guess he fitted them if looking at them while they were on my face counts. Needless to say they didn't feel right. So I watched a youtube video on how to adjust glasses and got them the best I could. Even after my attempts I couldn't get them right. I went back to Crane and asked Bryan if I could return them. He said he would give me a full refund on my frames but my insurance had already been run on the lenses so I would have to get another pair there. This wasn't a problem becasue there are not that many places on Kauai. He then asked if I had adjusted my glasses, I said yes and he proceeded to make little douche bag comments about my adjustments. Well excuse me Bryan, I wouldnt of had to do that if you adjusted them in the first place. So I ended up getting a pair of ray bans that were very comfortable. He said the frames were $229, the exact same price as the first pair I bought. This struck me as odd as I later looked up ray ban frames online. Turns out the frames I bought are only $150 online and even cheaper on several other eye care websites. I asked Bryan about this and his response was "yeah well we have different prices." Different? You mean a $70 mark up on frames that you already get at a discount? What a joke. I know he is just mad I returned my first pair and is trying not to refund me my $70 for the cheaper ray ban frames. On ray bans website there are not even any plastic frame glasses for over $200. Save yourself some time and money and go to another eye care center that values its customers and isn't trying to rip them off. read more

I have been going to Dr. Crane since the very beginning of his practice when his office was across the street from McDonalds. The first thing he did was catch a case of toxoplasmosis I had early and that saved my vision. Then years later I went in for cataract surgery on my eye that has severe astigmatism so that it was basically unusable and during the cataract procedure he cut a pie shape out of my pupil (by sheer talent) and corrected that eye to close to 20/20 vision! That is no mean feat. I see so well i do not need reading glasses. Sheer talent. Remember that Tim is not the manager of his eyeglass department either. I've had at least 4 or 5 pair of glasses ordered there and the service has always been professional. Don't be fooled by grumpy people. Dr. Crane is as good as an eye doctor can be. Period. read more

I have been wearing eyeglasses for over 20 years. A week ago I finally got the courage to do LASIK eye surgery with Dr. Crane. It was one of the best decision I have ever made because now I get to wake up every morning and actually see!! My eye sight was so bad that it feels so surreal to be able to finally see without the help of glasses or contact lens. Now I wonder why I waited so long to do it and what I was so afraid of because the procedure was super fast and done in minutes. They used these magical numbing drops because I didn't feel a thing. Dr. Crane and his staff made me feel so comfortable and help calm my nerves the whole entire time. Nurse Jenna is the best because she took care of us after the procedure and helped us get back home safely. She was always available to answers all my questions and concerns before and after the surgery. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would! My personal experience with the office was a nightmare. First, rescheduled my appointment 2 months out. Then, the receptionist was less than helpful. Didn't offer to look up my insurance eligibility. I had a very bad experience with Crane. The manager, Brian, was very impersonal and barely even says hello when you come in. Unfortunately, he was the only person around in the eyeglasses department. When I received my first pair of glasses, they were chipped and dirty. He did not even bother sizing them to my face, just handed them to me and walked away. Not only was the whole experience unprofessional, the glasses were three times the price of the retail website. They weren't even labeled with a price tag, he just made the price up as we were doing the paperwork. I felt like he was just ripping me off and when I asked why they were so much more, he simply said " oh we just have different prices here". A bit ridiculous if you ask me. I'm a tourist in Kauai. Last night I broke my glasses frame. Good reviews lead me to crane eye care. My experience was excellent. Optician Susan Cox was extremely helpful. She offered several possible solutions. She spent some time searching for a frame that my current lenses would fit into. She found a reasonably priced Oakley frame that worked and looked great I was out in under an hour! Dr Crane obviously chooses professional dedicated staff. If I ever need any kind of eye care I would go there. We have visited Kauai every year for 25 years. This is an excellent practice! read more

Had a warranty issue with some Oakley frames that I bought on the mainland. I couldn't get through to a human at Oakley, so I took a chance and popped into Crane as I saw they were authorized dealers. They were very helpful and even used their direct number to contact Oakley for me, and answered a lot of my questions. I have the best vision right now thanks to CRANE EYE CARE. I am currently 4 days post lasik operation and I'm loving my 20/15 vision! The need for LASIK has always been on my mind for 7 years (I'm a little younger than 30). After moving to Kauai last year, my lifestyle changed to a more "outdoorsy"-beach kinda thing. The downside to my new lifestyle was having to be stuck with my glasses or contacts which was NOT fun, especially with 2 rambunctious kids! I gathered the courage to check out a few doctors on Oahu and told myself "why not check out Dr. Crane since he IS on Kauai!?!?". I met with Dr. Crane for a consultation 2 weeks before my unexpected op-day. I was not expecting to really set a op-date but once I went in and spoke to Dr. Crane, he 'somehow' gave me that boost or confidence to go along with the procedure! Crane Eye Care saved my vacation! I lost my glasses on the beach at Hanalei Bay late the second day of a seven day stay on Kauai. Thought my vacation was ruined. After calling two other Eye Care facilities which were no help, I was able to have my eye prescription faxed to Crane Eye Care first thing the next morning.
