After over 10 years of being patient's with Sun Country Pediatrics, we have finally decided to…read moreleave the practice. There have always been things over the years that never sat well with me and today was honestly the final nail in the coffin. I also work in heathcare, so I am aware of the inner workings of physician offices. The draw has always been that Sarah and Stacy, the ARNP's, were awesome and listened! Additionally the weekend hours made it easier for us to get them to appointments. I don't take this decision lightly either, because even though there have been issues with things like staff attitude - no call backs on things such as labs or questions, we just sort of brushed them off in hopes that the next time wouldn't be an issue. I called two weeks ago in regards to a travel vaccine for my daughter. I was advised to call the health department, that they don't offer them in office. I called Hernando county, Citrus county, pasco county, and Hillsborough county - none of whom offer the vaccines. Pinellas offers it but at an over $300 per vaccine cost - which I can't afford. Not to mention, that by the time I could get her an appointment to the clinic for said vaccine it would be too late and the trip would be over. I was then advised by the clinic that the pediatrician's office could order Vivotif - which is the pill form of the vaccine for ages 12 and older. I even went through the trouble of contacting our local pharmacy to see if they could order the tablets if they received an RX for them, which they said they absolutely could and out of pocket expense is less than $150. The pharmacist gave me the instructions and told me exactly how the pediatrician needed to write it. Over the last two weeks, I have had to consistently leave a message with the nurses for Sarah the ARNP and in order to find out her answers, have had to literally call because no one would call me back. After calling again today, I was advised that per Sarah, ARNP, I needed to go through the health department because they don't do this particular vaccine. Which I already knew, and had asked if she could order the pill form instead. Explaining that I couldn't afford this vaccine, or travel that far to get it. It's over an 1.5 hours away from us and that we couldn't get an appointment soon enough. The nurse said that Sarah spoke with the medical director who is Dr. Griffen himself, and they refused to order the pill form for us. Stating to go to the health department. I asked the nurse if maybe there was some sort of miscommunication since this is only a prescription for tablets, and was rudely told "well this is why we advise you to make an appointment." In the two weeks of communication, not ONCE was I told to make an appointment with Sarah or anyone in the office to discuss this. I asked if Sarah could call me back after Patient's and was told "she doesn't make house calls". As a physician's office, the priority should be to take care of your patients and this includes assisting with the best options for medications and vaccines when it comes to affordability. There is nothing special about this prescription order and the tablet form is ages 12 and up; my daughter is 15. I understand staff can have a bad day, which again has been one of those excuses over the years that I've used to forgive them for speaking to me in the manner that they have. Equally frustrating is that I have never not been able to speak with a physician. Maybe not right then and there because they are with patients, but Sarah and Stacy have ALWAYS been available to call me back after they are finished or have a moment to speak with me. Knowing that this nurse was outright refusing to pass along my request just pushed the limit for me. I give two stars for Sarah and Stacy - because the rest of them need some work.
