They all recommended that I use Spackle or joint compound, which will not adhere to the existing lath, shrink, crack, and fail completely in the near future. Tony at Peoples knew exactly how plaster walls worked, understood that I wanted to repair them correctly, and had everything I needed in stock. I knew which scratch/base coat plaster I wanted, but wasn't sure which finish plaster I would need. Tony knew exactly what would work best and made sure I understood how to mix it. I think some of the negative reviews here are a misunderstanding about what this business is. It is a building supply yard, not a hardware store. They carry a lot of odds and ends that you might find at a hardware store, but I'm guessing a good 80% of their sales are raw building materials going to commercial builders.

I was told that this lumber yard and Smoot's is owned by the same company. I came today to pick up some from moldings, because I'm in the process of re-finishing our basement myself. From what Ive seen so far, their prices are decent, and it's a huge lumber yard. They have an interesting showroom, and they carry all different kinds of molding. I don't like the pick-up system that is outside. After my order was paid, I was instructed to drive around to the back to pick-up my order. There were 10 other customers standing outside doing the same thing, and there is no real system or actual line in place. They would simply help whoever they felt like helping. I got skipped and that was irritating.

I actually needed quality wood glue to repair a wooden dresser I inherited that was my 90 year old mom's childhood dresser in England. I didn't see if there were rooms in back for people to work or take classes, but judging by the name of this place, I assume so. I love how our car is weighed when we pull in, and after we choose rocks and place them in the car, it is weighed again and we pay by the pound. Yesterday I went for some bags of small rocks, and while I was walking around, I found a pallet of pieces shaped like books. I took one, and was told it is sold as part of a small pallet, so I took it inside to ask about it. The lovely man inside did tell me that it was part of a pallet, but when I mentioned that I wanted to paint it as a book, he paused and then said, "You can have it." I should have waited to write this till I finish the piece, but I decided to write now to show how I appreciate his kindness. I will take a photo when I do complete it and sent it. Thank you Sislers.
