Before today, I hadn't been to Yum Cha in well over 5 years and i'd completely forgotten how much of a gorge-fest it is. Plate after plate of tasty morsels all for only $18 per person. That shit cray. No wonder people are fiends for it when they're hungover! Anyway, back to Sun World. I came here today for a lunch date with Dad, thanks to a recommendation from fellow yelper, Arthur C. We arrived around 1pm and the foyer was packed but within 10mins we were seated and ready for the feast to begin. Dad's a bit of an old hand at Yum Char so I left the ordering up to him. Without fail he always orders the pork buns and sticky rice but today we also tried: - Shumai - Spring rolls - Combination seafood dumpling - Steamed prawn dumplings - Black bean beef The pork buns were definitely my favourite - they had the perfect filling to bun ratio and the pork was sticky and caramelized. I was also a huge fan of the Shumai. The filling was moist and flavoursome and the casing was delicately thin. Perhaps it was because it was the last thing we ate and I was incredibly full at this stage but I probably could of done with out the spring rolls. They are huge and lacking in the flavour department. I've also gotta say, that they service here is great. The staff aren't too pushy and when Dad put in a special order for sticky rice it came out within minutes. When we were leaving Dad actually realized that he knew the Maitre D from a Yum Cha spot he used to frequent in Onehunga called The Joy Inn. She told him she hadn't seen him in 10years and that he had less hair now, which I thought was hilarious. A great end to a great meal!

Best yum cha in Newmarket, but I fell in love with this place for Flat Family Dinner. There were seven of us and we pre-ordered two peking ducks. We took a bottle of wine and enjoyed the noise and bustle. The jelly fish salad is great, but if you're with boring gwailos the lemon chicken will keep them happy (I had to admit, it's not your average lemon chicken - the sauce is sour, tangy and not overly sweet). The vegetable dishes are freshly flavoured and aren't drowned in salty sauces.

Things to order from Sun World's Yum Cha menu: - Spicy salt and pepper tofu. - Prawn dumplings - Spinach dumplings - Ice cream balls - Fried rice rolls with xo sauce Sun World is a Chinese restaurant. It's pretty traditional Chinese. I don't usually go there for dinner (although I have before, and I recommend the prawn balls, the whole crayfish or steamed or fried whole fish), it's more for Yum Cha. You've got to be a little aggressive at Yum Cha. If you're passive, you could end up with no food. The Yum Cha at Sun World is pretty good on the scale of things. That spicy tofu is pretty delicious. Go with friends and order a bunch of dishes (including the ones above) and you'll go away full and laughing, with a tonne of change in your pocket. Note: It's difficult to split the bill there, take cash or have one person pay and pay them back.

They also do other items of food I haven't seen at other yum cha places, also their food isn't as greasy as other restaurants as well!

Food: 4.7/5 Service 4.2/5…read moreValue 4.1/5 This restaurant was highly recommended by my Kiwi friend and it didn't disappoint. The four of us got the full roasted duck, fried rice, roasted pork, shiu mai, and shrimp dumplings. I will start by saying that this restaurant was really expensive, even the green beans were almost $50NZ so just be weary that you will spend a lot here. However, the food was amazing! Roasted duck: definitely the highlight of the meal. For $80 NZ, I felt like it was the best value for the price. Super tender meat, great texture on the skin, and wonderful taste overall Fried Rice: Great base for all of the other dishes. Also came with a spicy chili oil that put this dish over the top! Roasted Pork: I personally wish the skin was a bit thicker and crispier but my friends all thought it was good. There were also complaints about the pork being relatively fat heavy, but I thought it was a great balance. Shiu mai and Shrimp dumplings: Pretty basic but still delicious! Recommend if you enjoy. 1/4 of the shrimp dumpling peels fell apart when grabbing it. Overall would definitely recommend coming here for great food but expect to spend a pretty penny! All of this was about $250NZ

They are large and spacious and classy enough inside, although clearly classy from a few years ago…read moreas opposed to more recently. The outside is deceptive, they don't look nearly that large, but clearly they get big crowds and are used to it. Got there early so hard to properly evaluate service (which was excellent, even a little overbearing) as they were virtually empty when I walked in. The dim sum itself was from so-so to just okay, the har cheung fun (shrimp rice noodle roll) was a good example: skins too thick, shrimp not memorable at all. Beef tripe (ngau paak yip) is usually a pale white but well seasoned, this one was off in color and perhaps a tad over-steamed as the texture wasn't perfect. It was adequate if you need your dim sum fix.

Their menu is huge! With everything from soup to meat dishes, vegetables, rice, noodles, and dim sum, they have it all! My biggest complaint here though is the price. They have set menus for $28-45/person basically but they didn't have a set menu that had everything we really liked. But if you order off their regular menu, 1 dish was around $30 so it really adds up quickly when you order family style. As far as the food goes, everything was pretty good! We tried their wonton soup, seafood baby spinach soup, crispy roast duck, sauteed green beans/eggplant in black bean sauce, yangchow fried rice, and stir fried beef egg noodles. Luckily portions were big, the food came out piping hot, and everything tasted great! I would recommend China Yum Char to others! The food was better than expected, and service was great!

Here are some of my favourite items from the menu: deep fried squid, prawn spring rolls, prawn dumplings, spinach dumplings... prawns prawns dumplings dumplings, repeat. I lost count of how many tiny morsels I stuffed into my gob, but they were all amazing. At the end of the meal we were offered "deep fried milk", which we were to discover was deep fried sweetened condensed milk. Eating one of these little packages was an absolute finishing move for me and I had to go home for a lie down... and a long hard think about my dining habits!

This is actually a review for Jade Dragon Express the dim sum yum char part of the restaurant…read more I don't know what is happening to me but I just have this craving for yum char this whole week. And I am yet to yelp about the other two that I have been. The Jade dragon express is located on the third floor of the main casino complex. Just take the escalators up and you won't miss it. The whole restaurant is not that big. And the lighting is limited if you are seated in the booth. The selection is not that extensive, but all the usual suspects are present. The all important chicken feet, beef tripe and prawn dumpling etc. The items are made nicely. The taste is let down somewhat by the extra garlic they used in the dish. But overall it's not unpleasant. The service is warm and friendly. Feels just like another yum char place. They push the carts around so you pick what you like. To save the language issues. They provide a menu with decent size photographs for everything they have. So it's just a matter of point and nod. From what I had today though. I would try to avoid the egg tart and the shrimp rice roll. The egg tart's filling was overly set, so it's not as creamy like how it should. And the rice roll was just bland. Price wise, it's quite affordable by yum char standards. But Unfortunately Jade Dragon Express is a perfect example of you get what you paid for.
