I'm going to tread lightly on this one mainly because the gentleman who took our order was so genuine and nice.
Much like some of the other reviewers, my girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place by accident. Well actually, it was more of a 'we're already here and we're hungry and everything is closing' kinda deal. We originally planned to eat at Sunflower which is next door to No. 1 Dumpling but it was closed for 4 days. And of course the night we went was their last night being closed.. uggghhhh
After studying the pictured menu outside, we reluctantly ordered a few dishes. A vegetarian soup, salted fried fish and an order of pan fried vegetarian dumplings. Can't come to a place called No.1 Dumplings and not have dumplings, right? It's a self-serve food court kind of place - get your own utensils, bowls, sauces, tea, etc.. The dining tables and chairs were on a slope which added to our interesting dining experience.
When the food came out, it looked pretty decent until we finally tasted it.
Vegetarian Soup - Underseasoned and underwhelming. It had zero flavor even with all the fat and oils floating in the broth. I had to ask the nice gentleman for chili sauce to give the soup some kick and flare. The veggies weren't fresh and like the tofu, had a weird consistency.
Salted Fried Fish - not bad, but the batter could've have been a bit thicker.
Pan Fried Vegetarian Dumplings - They might have been in a rush to get the order out because they didn't fry the dumplings thoroughly. Only one side was fried while the others were left cold and doughy. Such a disappointment.
Maybe we ordered the wrong items or maybe it was an off day, but we're not coming back. Best of luck to the nice gentleman. read more
