Had dinner here on Boxing Day. Not very busy, a few waiters hanging around. They only opened the upstairs dining area. We had to go to them to seat us, we thought it will be rude if we just sat anywhere not knowing which ones are reserved or whatever, so we asked - they initially appeared like they weren't keen to help, but once we were seated, the wait staff served us with friendly faces. The tablecloth was clean, the chairs with white cloth covers - a little worn and very stained. They serve us free tea, which is great. The food tastes average, but I found a lot of small sharp bones in my honey pork - my teeth are still good & I'm a healthy adult so I'm okay, but imagine if elderly or very young children were eating? The pork looks boneless with firm meat and then there's these sharp bones! I found a few, not 1 or 2 - that's not safe. That could pierce gums, damage fillings in teeth, perforate oesophagus, intestines - I'm an RN, I take this seriously. Please do warn customers about this!
But at least the beef with vegetables was nice! No health issues with it lol thank goodness. The steamed rice was good but the small serving was pricey at $2.60. Some Thai restaurants offer rice for free, even unlimited. Servings were a little small tho for $22-25 a dish, which probably serves only 2 people. My soup was expensive too - 250mls (1 cup) and charged us $9.50! When we wanted to take our food home, they just gave us a plastic bag and container - we did it ourselves which I don't mind... if this place was an eatery! But for $25 for a small dish? And calls itself a restaurant? With holiday surcharge too (which they didn't tell us about), Come on. They weren't busy! Plenty of staff hanging around the perimeter. I've dined in restaurants charging the same for a dish and received better service.
When it was time to pay, the cashier added a 10% holiday surcharge without telling us. You can't take people's money without telling us what and why! It's simple courtesy. So we asked her what's the extra $10 for?! And for $65 total, 10% is $6.5 not $10. Do your maths! She didn't speak to us she just rudely pointed at the sign in front of her "10% surcharge public holiday" this sign was not by the door, not by the entrance way, not informed to us by waiting staff, and not properly shown anywhere - it was a small sign about 4x5 inches paper taped on the surface of the cashier's bar table. Only she can see it lol. Maybe to remind herself to overcharge customers. If we knew they were charging, we would have left. What's the point of shopping on Boxing Day with the crazy parking & long queues for discounted items if you end paying more to dine in a below average "restaurant"?! We would have left! The cashier was incredibly rude & unprofessional. We are nurses, our patience is world-renowned lol and yet she managed to piss us off. Another review stated the restaurant also charge 10% for groups?! Really?! Too many charges, service not good enough, restaurant so ugly & dirty, expensive & small dishes that tastes average with sharp bones - not worth the money. Improve your services, train your staff well, update your restaurant, then we might consider coming back. We only went here because Hansan was closed . read more
