We stopped in for dinner during our last night in Auckland. The food was decent if not a bit pricey. My vegetarian friend ordered the sichuan style vegetables, which really has to be eaten with rice but weirdly didn't come with rice (extra $5 NZD). The flavor of the sichuan vegetables was solid, and reminded us of a vegan sichuan restaurant in NYC. We also ordered the laksa, which was alright. The nasi goreng was tastier and included a few pieces of well cooked shrimp and chicken. We also ordered a pitcher of the purple rain cocktail which was good. The service was friendly and quick, and great environment for drinks and a meal with friends. We did not need a reservation around 9pm on a Friday night.

This place is 5 star all the way! If you're in Auckland and want a great asian fusion restaurant, that's good food, hip ambiance and great service, THIS IS YOUR PLACE!! No reservations are required during dinner service, but if you go on weekday during lunch, you'll need rezzies! It's located in Auckland's CBD ( Central Business District) and close walk from major hotels! We ordered several items, family style for four of us, which was plenty food for us. We Started our ordered with the appetiser combo, calamari, roti, garlic with caramelised naan bread, jasmine rice, firecracker chicken, Beef Rangoon, shrimp Bali and red vegetable curry. Everything was AMAZING! But be forewarned, if you like spicy and I mean super spicy, the chicken is. It for the ones who can't handle it! You're even warned from the wait staff when ordering it! The tastes of the food are excellent, temperature was nice and hot, taste seasoned perfect! The staff were also very attentive! Making sure we had drinks (since chicken was so spicy)! Ambiance was very trendy with hip music playing , lots of art and decor was awesome! Definitely a place I'll come again!

Came across Monsoon Poon during our walking tour. Attracted by the unique decor, we decided to stop in to grab some food. The Laksa was really good. The Dahl was a bit watery but the taste was right on. Service was great!

Yum! This place was great! We chose this based off of a recommendation of our concierge (and of course some verification from my friends at Yelp!) and we were super happy with our decision. This place is very unassuming from the entrance and location but you walk in and it's a trendy, but casual, atmosphere. We ordered the following and thought it was all great: Singapore fried noodles (with firecracker chicken) caution they don't lie when they say it's spicy Shaking beef (probably the favorite of the table even though the description didn't make it seem like it would be) 25 spice and herb lamb curry Imperial lettuce cups Tandoori chicken little dragon tacos Peppered squid (basically spicy calamari) We also got the Penang chicken but we weren't in love with it. The coconut cream sauce was a little too sweet for some of us (although I personally am a huge fan of all things Penang so I liked it!) and for others there wasn't enough sauce. Service was decent. Our waitress was hard to find at times but this place was packed when we walked in without a reservation at 9 pm on a Tuesday. Despite this, they were able to seat us pretty quickly. I'm glad we got to check this place out!

Oh lawwd! Dined here twice during my trip to Auckland. Its been two months, I still drool a little thinking about how incredibly delicious the food was! Things I've ordered: - Tandoori Lamb Cutlets: Pillowy soft, well-seasoned lamb, melts in your mouth at first bite. Generous portions for an appetizer. - Sweet Chili Eggplant: uh-mazing! Well balanced dish with a little crisp to the eggplant. Didn't think this was possible, usually eggplant ends up mushy when cooked. - 25 spice Lamb Curry: Authentic, robust, well balanced curry with generous chunks of lamb soaked in spicy goodness. I could eat this all day. Our server was great! Although it was a busy night, she made sure to check in on us periodically. This place is definitely on my list when I'm back in Auckland.

Nice atmosphere, but the service was erratic. Seated for 15 minutes before anyone came over. The food sounded great on the menu, but was not as good as it sounded. I was excited to try the Roti based tacos. There are 3 to an order and unfortunately they don't let you mix fillings (lamb, seafood, chicken). That was a shame as this dish would be much better with some variety. Good roti is meant to be like a croissant, its all about the pastry layers. The roti tacos were instead thick pancakes, and the 3 lamb tacos proved to be too much of the same thing. I tried 2 other items. The red lamb curry I had was too heavy on the tomato base. The yellow fish curry was nice.

Monsoon Poon has been in that corner of Auckland since I can remember. Known for the fusion South Eastern flavours, I figured it should be a safe option for a multi-cultural group. Auckland is going through that no reservations trend, so a place that lets me plant my name on 8 seats deserves a tentative round of applause. They have a massive cocktail list, with $6 cocktail of the week from 4-6pm. Not bad at all for Auckland's sky high cocktail prices. We ordered Ping's crispy skin chicken wings to nibble on. True to its name, it had a nice crunch but it lacked in the flavour department. It was also a bit pricy at $13 for a few chicken wings...snatched up in seconds by our unabashed diners. I ordered the Shaking Beef (Vietnamese style seared beef), mainly because I did a class at Sachie's Kitchen with TriBeCa's Hayden McMillan and it was surprisingly easy and fun to make. The first few mouthfuls were soo good. I always get the coconut rice over jasmine or plain - it's just so much better with curries and sauces. After a while, the carb monster in me had finished my rice and I was only a third through the beef. With no rice, it was just WAY too salty. The beef was nicely seared and flavoured through and through, and it would have been nice itself without the accompanying sauce. I must have been high on coconut rice, because I even had a couple of mouthfuls of the "Firecracker Chicken" - chilli breaded chicken with Malaysian chilli sambal. It looks lethal but to my surprise I enjoyed the burn. It tasty without being lip and tongue numbing. Together with the happy hour cocktails, Monsoon Poon would be a safe go-to in town. Sure there are a few creases that could be smoothed but I didn't have to wait over an hour or pay ridiculous amounts for trendy "fusion food". The food is tasty, uncomplicated and I appreciate that.

Food: Apptizer combo was flavorful but heavy on the deep fry. I had malasian curry - nice not too spicy. Service: very good. Attentative staff that was very friendly. Came with children their kids menu (girls chose the oodles) was perfect for the girls (9 and 11) . Best part was location. We have children, didn't want to go to harbour, sat night had lots of loud music. Relaxed placed to go for tourist. Seemed to have locals coming also, which is always a good sign.

Parking is pretty good that part of Parnell and so once we walked all the way into the depths of the building on the ground floor all was well. We were seated quickly, and had our waitress come with water and to answer any additional questions promptly. She recommended a number of sharing plates, which was fine by us as we thought that would probably be a good way to go anyway. We started off with some of the lotus chips which were awesome. We then received a selection of dishes including lamb short ribs, crispy pork ribs (a winner), supposedly very spicy bang bang chicken in lettuce cups (it wasn't that spicy but had a bit of kick and was delicious too), Crispy squid tentacles were also a popular choice. The kung pao soft shell crab was tasty but a bit small serving wise, and the dumplings all tasty too. The pork belly was average, nothing wrong with it but not a standout. My wife especially liked the slow cooked beef shin. Service was excellent, food was tasty and interesting, restaurant a little dimly lit but very cool nevertheless (perhaps better for dates than family dining but I'm being picky here). My only quibble is value, it's not bad value for money but it wasn't great value either. If it were slightly cheaper I wouldn't hesitate to score it 5/5. However, that is not a deterrent to me wanting to try the restaurant again, as the Rest of the package was all of a very high standard. We will be back for sure.

The first time I dined at Lucky Buddha, I didn't quite know what to expect, but after learning that the owners are Korean, the head chef is Filipino and that they are serving Asian fusion cuisine (namely Japanese, Korean, Thai and Filipino), I was really excited. I have since dined at Lucky Buddha four times, and each time has been a very memorable foodie experience. The food is fresh and flavourful, and the cocktail list and service is excellent. Below, I list my favourite dishes and drinks at Lucky Buddha. For food, I recommend the following: * Sriracha Pork Steamed Buns filled with tender pulled pork, fresh herbs and a cracker spicy peanut sauce. This is my favourite entree on the menu as it has that melt in your mouth wow factor. The bao comes in a pair, so I recommend sharing it with another dining companion, so you can share a few other entrees! * Wakame Salad with Cured Salmon served with creamy avocado, crispy nori, foam and puffed rice. This dish incorporates two of my favourite foods - salmon and avocado, so I knew it would be a winner. The puffed rice and crispy nori gives the dish great texture. * Soba Noodle Salad with Avocado and Teriyaki Chicken - this is the perfect lunch dish! It is another great combination (soba noodles, avocado and teriyaki chicken), is extremely filing (carb + protein x2) and will keep you going for the rest of the afternoon. My favourite part of this dish is the fried crunchy soba noodles on top! * Bibimbap with Korean mixed rice, seasonal vegetables, soy beef and gochujang. Bibimbap is a classic Korean dish and also one of my favourite meals, so I was super excited to try Lucky Buddha's version. I tried this dish only a few weeks' ago, and it is now my new favourite! I loved the presentation, with the brightly coloured veg, flavoursome beef and semi-raw egg. The fun part of Bibimbap is that you get to mix all the ingredients together! Just one sad note - no kimchi. For drinks, I highly recommend trying one of their cocktails. Their cocktail list changes frequently, some of which are only on the menu according to the season. I have so far enjoyed the Dark Stormy Asian cocktail with Mount Gay XO rum, ginger, herb bitters and citrus (a highlight the first time I dined at Lucky Buddha) and the Heavens Surprise cocktail with Herradura Plata tequila, watermelon, mint and elderflower - I just HAD to order this cocktail as it incorporated my favourite food and my favourite spirit! It was refreshing and delicious. Lucky Buddha also has a small wine and sake list and a range of Asian beers on offer, including a beer of the same name. For a non-alcoholic option, try one of their iced teas or house made sodas. If the above is not enough to tempt you, then another reason why you should dine at Lucky Buddha is because of their excellent service. Each time I have visited, staff are friendly and efficient, water glasses are always topped up and you don't have to wait long for your food. Overall, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Lucky Buddha. Thinking about it now, it definitely makes my top five list in Auckland, for its Asian Fusion menu (featuring Japanese, Thai, Filipino and Korean classics), refreshing cocktails and consistently good service. I highly recommend dining at Lucky Buddha the next time you're out!

Of course it has to establish a good footing in the restaurant scene in this area. Give it time . Anyway, about our experience. We're not usually into the Asian Fusion cuisine, but then fusion dining overall we seldom if ever venture to. Part reason is the cost is high and i dislike eating a meal where the food only takes up half the plate. Makes me feel a bit like i am not getting my moneys worth. But in saying that the food was delicious! Our order consisted of the Market fish of the day yellow curry  (the fish being monkfish) with rotti , scallop salad & crispy eggplant washed down with a Brothers brewery lager. The order came out pretty quickly too. And like i said disregarding the portion size etc it was very delicious!. Top marks to the chef. About the service , it was top notch too from entry to exit. Faultless. Of note too is the decor, i really like the paintings on the walls and ceiling and the atmosphere within too. So overall i would recommend as long as you are willing to pay a few extra dollars and despite my tendency and reasons not to eat fusion cuisine i think it does definitely deserve 5 stars.
