Elite Level Review: Wills Eye Hospital (Cataract & Primary Eye Care)…read moreRating: 5/5 When it comes to advanced optical infrastructure, there is a massive difference between standard clinical care and a master-level institution. Wills Eye Hospital operates with total autonomy and structural excellence. From the pristine, curved architectural layouts of the waiting areas to the elite team rosters mounted on the walls, this facility is designed for high-resolution visual execution. The Forensic Breakdown The Clinical Environment: A highly organized, zero-redundancy medical footprint. The seating arrays are mathematically optimized, the lighting minimizes refractive interference, and the signage establishes an immediate boundary of mutual respect and operational decorum. The Team Matrix: This isn't a single-practitioner operation; it is a unified powerhouse of medical intelligence. Names like Abendroth, Gault, Pericic, and Wisner represent an elite tier of optical science, backed by a clinical team photographed and indexed with absolute geometric precision. The Performance: They don't just check boxes; they optimize the human lens. If you want your vision restored to its ultimate specification, you trust the absolute authority in eye care. A Note on Clinical Adaptability & Fortitude In the world of advanced surgical revision, you need practitioners who can bypass obstacles and adapt to any intentional hurdle. It brings to mind the historic account of a patient who suffered severe facial trauma, completely destroying his eyelids. The primary surgeon, operating with absolute resourcefulness, successfully executed a skin transplant using tissue sourced from a circumcision procedure. The operation was an absolute structural success, and the patient's sight was completely preserved. The only lingering clinical complication? The poor guy ended up just a little bit cockeyed. Thankfully, the elite team at Wills Eye knows exactly how to align a baseline, no matter the origin of the specifications!

This is my second surgery here and both times I arrived early, only to wait no less than 3 hours. This time, they called and asked me to come in early and I'm now an hour past the original time. I'm only here due to my insurance, otherwise I'd go elsewhere. I'm anxiously awaiting my large bill and then trying to call during their very limited billing office hours. For a place with such a good reputation, it seems like a cruel joke. Go elsewhere.

My appointment was at 3, and I ended up being admitted by 3:30. I expected a bit of a wait because when do you ever go to the doctor and be admitted on time? Once I was in the examination room, I felt I had Dr. Wortman's full attention. He made sure to explain to me every thing he was doing and what that meant, and how he viewed my progress. He fitted me for contacts and truly listened to me when I said, I want quality, but cheap contacts. He tried on two pairs on my right eye and we finally settled on a good fit, which was reasonably priced and good quality. I am definitely very pleased with my experience here and found Dr. Wortman to be very personable, thorough, and he made me very comfortable throughout the whole process.

I went on Yelp and he was the first office that accepted Drexel's Student Health Insurance (Sidenote: Why doesn't Modern Eye on Penn's campus take any student health insurance?) and were able to get me in at 11am the next day. I walked in today and was seen within 15 minutes of my appointment time and Dr. Wortman was really awesome! He took my poor, mangled spectacles and said he could give me 2 options with them: Try to tape me back up so I could get by or try to find me a pair of frames that matches the lens and switch them out. He was very up front in telling me he couldn't promise that he would have something that would fit around but he got someone to look while we did the exam. I thought that was very awesome, as most optometrists that I have gone to in the past were not so accommodating. They were able to find a pair of frames that matched my lenses! I now had a nice, sleep pair of (inexpensive) black frames. They even got all of the glue and things that wer eon the lenses from my frantic attempts to keep my glasses together! The lady that helped pick out my glasses was also really helpful. She let me sit and she picked out glasses based on the colors and stuff I wanted. I wanted something a bit funky. We found the perfect frames for me (thank god I didn't pick the most expensive) and she was great about helping me find the perfect pair with the right options at the right price for me. I can't wait to pick up my hot new glasses within two weeks, but thanks to Dr. Wortman, I'll be just fine in the meantime.

Please know that this office cares and wants to be sure the patients have a positive experience. I appreciated hearing from Kim and her proposed solutions (of which she offered many). ORIGINAL: I had been going here for several years. My first year I got Dr Ward and he was great. Unfortunately, in the subsequent years I was passed off to other newer doctors so I missed the continuity in care. On my last visit, a new doctor recommended I try a "mono vision" approach for my multi focal contacts. I was open to it as she said I could "try it out" since it will take a while to get used to. I was told that if I don't like it to "just call" for an updated prescription. It didn't work for me. When I tried to get an updated prescription (around 119 days later) I was told that I was "outside of my 90 days" and would need to come back in for another eye exam. Of course, I would have to pay out-of-pocket for the exam (my insurance only covers 1 exam per calendar year). I was never told of this 90 day window at any point in conversation with the physician or staff nor is it listed anywhere in the paperwork I was given. I feel this is disingenuous and will therefore be looking for a new eye doctor.

I see Dr. Steven Breeker for my hypertension issues, he's a specialist and easily the best doctor in Philadelphia. I've gone around to a lot of different doctors in town, each one of them more pompous and irritating than the last. Dr. Breeker treats you like your a real person, not some idiot who can't figure out which end of the scale to get on. He's smart, reliable and knows his stuff. I was impressed by his knowledge and breadth of interest in new research of all types. Most doctors forget that they provide you a service, and if they can't be bothered to see you or talk to you like a human being then why keep them? In Philadelphia there are hundreds of doctors to choose from for all manner of problems, it took me 4 years to find Dr. Breeker, definetly give him a try.

Such unresponsive doctors. Calling the hospital gives you an automated system..it takes 20 mins just to get through to talk to a live person. No results after 2 weeks.
