Dr Piccone had been my eye doctor for five years. She has always gone above and beyond. Dr Piccone was recommended to me by another physician. She is outstanding. She was able to diagnose and treat my problem quickly and on the first try. I have since referred my husband and daughter who have had the same great experience. She is kind and takes her time with me. Most of all, I appreciate her expertise. After years of seeing her for glasses and contacts I finally made the move and got lasix. She did my lasix surgery and I'm typing this without glasses one day after surgery. I have zero pain and can't believe how she has impacted my life in a positive way. I was in the ER for a severe eye infection with the potential to permanently lose my vision and Dr. Piccone made time for me early on a Sunday morning to see me in her office. She even came in extra early at 7:30 AM the two following days to check my progress and make sure everything was clearing up. She was very patient and explained everything to me and I went from being in extreme pain and unable to see to having the pain subside within just a few hours and my vision return. I was very pleased with Dr. Piccone. She performed a cataract. My issue with her is her administrative staff, Linda. I tried to get a copy of some paperwork indicating I had a cataract surgery but was told if would cost me $25. I have never paid for medical records. I then called asked how to avoid using both reading glasses and glasses to read the computer. I was told to get progressive glasses. I never heard of these, but they sounded like they would solve the problem of needing to change glasses so many times during the day. It sounded like they were an over-the-counter item, but I found that is not true. A called the office several times but the phone just rang with no message. i even wrote a letter to Dr. Piccone's home. She replied that she would get back to me, but never did. I emailed to get my prescriptions, no response. I called and left a message, no response. Most doctors have no idea how bad their staff is and that the staff is ruining their reputation. I certainly would never recommend this doctor. After months I still do not have my prescription. read more

This office engages in unethical business practices. They took my insurance for my exam but then charged me full price for my contact lenses. When I asked why they didn't use my insurance to cover my contacts, they said that it was "my responsibility" to be reimbursed by my provider. The person working the front desk kept asking for new credit card information citing that one card was declined (even though it was in full working order) and wrote down my card information - complete with expiration date and CVV code - prior to running my card through the machine. When I asked for an itemized bill for reimbursement purposes, the front desk person said that my credit card receipt "should be enough." When I called my vision plan the following day to get reimbursed, they were shocked to hear how the practice behaved. They explained that a practice who takes my insurance for my exam is contractually obligated to go through the same insurance for my lenses. They informed me that a credit card receipt was not the correct documentation for reimbursement and said that an itemized receipt is a patient's right. They advised me to place a formal complaint and they are doing the same. I'm very concerned about the practices of this provider. Why did they use my insurance for my exam and then blindside me with the full cost of my lenses after they were ordered and delivered? Why didn't they explain that they wouldn't use my insurance for my lenses? Why did the front desk person ask for two credit card numbers and write down my card information before using the machine? As a result, I will have to get a new credit card to ensure that my information isn't stolen. A final concern during the visit was Dr. Piccone herself. When taking my medical history and asking about my prescribed medications, I provided a rather long list (I take six medications) and explained my diagnosis of a chronic health condition. She then told me how rare and unusual it was for people with my condition to be "fully functional." That made me incredibly uncomfortable - I shrugged it off initially because I thought I may have been too sensitive. However, combined with the questionable practices of the office, I feel like it's important to share as well. read more

I recently went to Dr. Piccone for contacts lenses. She told me she would mail me the contacts prescription. I then received two different prescriptions in the mail. When I called to clarify which prescription was meant for me...she didnt even know. She has no clue what shes doing. Her and her staff were not even apologetic to me about such a huge misunderstanding. Now I have to find a completely new eye doctor and redo my entire exam. Never going back. read more

There was no pain with the procedure itself which only took about 15 minutes, and I woke up the next morning with 20/20 vision after being reevaluated by Dr. Piccone in her office. I am so happy I no longer have to wear glasses after 25 years and am so grateful to Dr. Piccone for her skills! Dr Piccone was the Specialist on call 3 years ago when I arrived at 12 midnight at BMH. I had a retinal hemorrhage, and Dr Piccone immediately diagnosed this daunting threat to my eyesight. Within hours, she had the finest retinal specialist call me and schedule an appointment at Shea Eye. My sight was saved due to her timely arrival at BMH, her diagnostic brilliance, referral and personal follow through. I have sent friends to her and she had maintained top drawer professionalism - her practice is not driven by packing in patients- she gives time and care generously she serves the community, volunteers and is a proven surgeon. Dr. Piccone is the absolute best! She expertly operated on my cataracts (Will's Eye and Lankenau Hospitals) in 2018 with excellent results and very personal care. Recently I experienced an eye emergency when I scraped my cornea. She met me in her office late on a Saturday afternoon, alleviated my pain, began a course of treatment and relieved my distress. I had an emergency situation recently happen to me. I was a little careless with my contact lens up keep and taking care of my eyes. This resulted in me ending up with a severe corneal ulcer. Painful and scary I went to urgent care and just like I had self diagnosed myself it was in fact a corneal ulcer. Immediately the urgent care referred me to Dr. Piccone. She got me in right away and took such a scary thing to me with ease. She was attentive and consistent. It's been a week and my eye has significantly improved. There were some office help issues that were not great however that has been dealt with. As far as a great eye doctor - she's the best. If I could give zero stars I would. When I had my visit over a year ago, doctor was very unfriendly and seemed annoyed and frustrated..Not sure if this was due to having to see me immediately based on my primary care's request but either way. My eye was fine, nothing was needed thankfully. I was billed my full amount due to insurance issues (not on my end), the doctor gave the wrong billing code. Over a year later I finally got everything situated or at least I thought. After Insurance company reached out (she would not help me personally), I received my reimbursement from the doctor (18 months later), and it wasnt even the correct amount. I do not recommend, bad bedside manner and customer service. Mistakes happen I get it, but fix it, or at least act as if you want to try. Plenty of other doctors in the area. read more

I have never done this before. I have been a patient of Dr. Piccone for about four years as the result of being referred to her by a mutual friend. A year and a half ago, I had an appointment for my annual exam, and the day of my appointment I received a call that they needed to cancel. No explanation was given. When I asked about rescheduling I was told to call back after the New Year. I got busy with work and forgot to call. I called about five days ago and made an appointment. Then I received a message on my voicemail yesterday that my appointment for the next day was cancelled and referred me to another doctor. When I called back to find out why, the receptionist dodged answering the question. I finally asked if Dr. Piccone didn't want me as a patient any more and the receptionist said yes. I asked the reason, and she said that she couldn't tell me. I asked if Dr. Piccone was available to speak with me and was told no. Then I asked for Dr. Piccone to please call me and tell me herself. The receptionist said "I'll ask". I always paid my bills and was always on time for my appointment. This is no way to treat a patient. read more

I'm 48 years old and have had glasses / contacts since 3rd grade (somehow, I thought they were cool back then?) but, obviously, I've had my fair share of eye doctors in those years as I moved around and travelled most of my post high school years! However, recently I had an eye infection & burnt cornea & had to go to the hospital where they recommended I follow up with one of their favored volunteers - Dr. Michele R. Piccone. Well, I did follow up with Dr. Piccone back in Oct. 2015 and can't begin to say enough good things!!! She has been incredible!!! First, unbelievable with treatment of my infection & burnt cornea, eye exam following that which uncovered glaucoma (which runs in the family & I'm sure the last 3 eye doctors missed), a change in glasses prescription and reevaluation of my contacts (strength, size, fit, etc.). Dr. Piccone has been fantastic, professional, knowledgeable, helpful beyond my years of experience!!! I would recommend Dr. Piccone to anyone, young or old, new or experienced to needed glasses / contacts / etc.,, or any other eye issue, question, concern!!!
