Sun-Tech Custom Patios demolished an old bbq island which was an eyesore and was free housing for uninvited critters and then constructed an aesthetically pleasing and very functional patio cover. We gave Mr. Burkhart our general plan and he worked out the details ending in a finished product we could not be more happy with. We appreciate, even more, the work done by Sun-Tech considering the material delay, by the manufacturer, and the labor help issues which, for the most part, were caused by COVID. We are extremely happy with our new Dura Cool Aluminum Insulated Patio Cover that was installed by Kevin Burkhardt. It's pretty stressful finding a reliable contractor who can do a good job but Kevin exceeded our expectations. In July 2016, we decided to put a pool in our backyard and we also wanted a new patio cover. We decided to take a drive to a company in Fullerton to look at patio covers and that's where we met Kevin. My husband was impressed by how organized Kevin's supplies were placed in his work truck and decided to talk him and we got his business card. We called Kevin for an estimate and he was punctual, showed us samples of his work and he made some suggestions that were helpful and he did not rush us. We did our due diligence and checked his license with CSLB, insurance in order and no complaints. We decided to hire Kevin and it took about 5 months to get the patio done but the hold back was due to the delays with our pool since we wanted the pool done before the patio cover. And although we made several changes to the patio cover every time we contacted Kevin he was patient and understanding. Kevin made some suggestions to our drainage system and we are so happy that we took his advice. He also knocked down the existing patio cover and was cautious not to tear off or damage the stucco. When he came to put up the new patio cover he was very neat in organizing the material and was finished according to schedule. We ran into some issues with the City Permit and Kevin said don't worry about it I will take care of it and he handle the problem the following day. We also decided to put LED lights and insulation and are very happy with the results. We are investors & purchased a single family residence (short sale from the original owner) in September 2013 in Corona, CA, We intended to fix up & resell it within a 90 day period & since the backyard was gorgeous & no work was needed, we anticpated about 4 weeks to fix up the inside & paint for the property to be ready to put on the market in October. Within 8 days of purchasing the property we received a notice from the County of Riverside that the georgous backyard was NOT PERMITTED & that we were in violation & County of Riverside would impose fines as much as $500/day if we did not remedy the situation. We were given deadlines of early December to comply. Needless to say we were shocked & very upset as the original homeowner indicated "all areas were permitted." Since we were trying to sell the property, we had an to remediate the situation quickly. We were also shocked that the original owner would take no responsiblity for unpermitted backyard. (that is another issue we will have to take up with them legally). We were skeptical hiring a contactor, as so many we have worked with throughout the years have been unreliable. We had a "vacant fixed up house", losing money every day it wasn't sold & now we had to address this situation as quickly as possible and stay within a reasonable budget. We also knew we needed an Architect to confirm the footings of the beautiful stone slated patio columns in the backyard & that they met code, along with the electrical, water & gas lines to the granite patio & built in BBQ grill & portable spa. So we began our search to find a reliable, competent, knowledgable contractor that had relationships with architects. We also wanted a contractor that could work with the County of Riverside (CoR) to get the backyard permitted, which would require several visits to CoR as well as meeting CoR inspectors at the properyt to inspect & remediate the situation. We got bids from several contactors to remediate the situation, which involved gas lines, portable spa, engineered patio cover & water lines. Kevin @ Sun-Tech was one of the contractors we asked to bid the project. We met him as the property to have him assess the situation. We were impressed from the beginning. He was very knowledgable about all aspects, the patio cover, electrical, water & gas. On his initial visit he spent significant time understanding the challenges we had. We decided after evaulating the others that Kevin was the best choice & we are so happy we choose him. He was RELIABLE, COMPETENT, KNOWLEDGEABLE, & FINISHED ON TIME. He met with CoR & we received the permits that were FINALIZED with CoR by early December thanks to his diligence. He matched the existing stone perfectly & the work looks amazing! We used Kevin B as our contractor. He not only was honest and fair but he was very professional. He completed all of the documents in a timely fashion and worked to get everything completed in a small amount of time. We had our pool and spa completely refaced, re-tiled, and had a new lighting system installed his team not only did a wonderful job but also fixed structural problems surrounding the pool. We also had a few of our windows replaced. He was able to point out faulty wiring as well as poorly insulated areas around our windows. The things he pointed out were never perceived as unnecessary most were pretty serious things we would have never known about had he not uncovered them.
