This was one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've ever had. Before going, I called the Pantops location directly to ask if I could bring my baby in a stroller for a spray tan. The employee I spoke with was kind and clearly told me it would not be a problem. Based on that, I drove over 30 minutes to the salon with my son. When I arrived, I set up my account, paid, and was ready to go back when the assistant manager, Sarah, came up and said my baby was not allowed in the back and I would have to leave and come back another time. When I explained that I had specifically called ahead to confirm this, she tried to tell me I must have called the corporate office--which was completely untrue. I repeated the exact number I called (the Pantops location), and instead of taking responsibility, she doubled down and refused to acknowledge the mistake. There was no apology, no attempt to fix the situation, and no effort to make it right--despite the fact that I had just driven over 30 minutes each way with a baby based on incorrect information from their staff. I also had to specifically ask for a refund; it was not offered upfront. Yes, I ultimately received my money back--but that does not excuse the wasted time, unnecessary trip, and dismissive attitude. The issue wasn't just the policy, it was the complete lack of accountability and basic customer service. If this is how new customers are treated, I would not recommend this location. read more

Always easy & so helpful! The beds are easy to view availability, they clean quick and help you but aren't pushy sales! Also keep you safe with recommendations read more

I've been going there for the last year for spray tans and never had much of a problem. today like normal i bought my spray tans through their app and arrived at the location 10 minutes after purchase, im checking in like normal when the employee tells me their system says I already used my spray tan. there is no way from a customer end to say I had already done it, the worker also know I HAD NOT had a spray tan because she was working the whole time. it was clearly a system malfunction but the worker was also unable to override or assist me in my struggles to getting the spray tan that I paid for and simply gave me a number to call in the morning (for no garunteed refund) and told me I either could not get the tan or could buy it again. I feel completely robbed, appalled at the lack of help I was given, and if i do not get a refund I will not be giving my service to this place and I hope you guys don't too. let me just say i did not do anything different this time than the last 20+ times I've been there, I also clearly did not get the spray tan considering I arrived 10 mins after purchase, no tanning solution, and the worker would have checked me in. there is NO WAY for me to trigger it saying I was given my service only the computer can. now i'm out 30 dollars, and pale for my trip. read more

I like the staff, very efficient and friendly. beds are nice and clean!

I had to give this a good review because for a while I would come here because of the bad reviews. I finally came here for the first time and was expecting to find a dump that was minimally staffed and that is not the case. I don't know what all the Karens are complaining about. This place is clean and efficient and the staff is nice and friendly. Maybe they replaced all The staff IDK. Please don't let old reviews stop you from supporting this local business because they are great. read more

Sunless tanning at a great price with many different payment packages to choose from. Excellent customer service, too.

Wish I could give zero stars. Have been coming here for years however the past two times the service has been horrible especially from Erica. The last time she was so rude I got up and literally walked out and didn't tan. Also the fans in the instant bed I used the last time I actually tanned at this place did not work and therefore I spent almost $40 for a broken bed. Such a disaster at this location and they have lost my business for sure. I also have told my friends about this and they no longer go either because they agree that this location has serious management issues. read more

I tan in both the beds and spray tanning booths at this location and love it! The staff is so kind and knowledgeable. I am a redhead with fair, hard to tan skin, so I have sought the staff's advice each time I want to move up my time or spray color, and every piece of their advice has been great! This location feels clean and friendly, and I recommend it! read more

Had a horrible experience here today. On their website they advertised your first spray tan was free. But when I got there, not only was the lady rude and undermining, but refused to give the offer claiming it was only "Sunday through Wednesday" when no where on the website was that listed. The tan turned out fine, but the customer service was awful. Definitely will not be going back. read more

I go here every week. Over the last several months staff has changed and it has went down hill. Its very irritating to be in the middle of getting a spray tan and the solution runs out. This has happened more often than not. I am not one to leave reviews but I am beyond frustrated. 1 girl in particular who has been there everytime this has happened is more worried about sitting in the office on her phone than cleaning beds and checking the solution!! read more

This is the best suntan city! The people here are friendly, personable, and are excited to see me. I always will go to this one over the other in town. The staff is knowledgable and wants to give you the best experience. Thank you Jennifer and Christopher! read more

Ugh. After a terrible experience at the 29 north location, I decided to try this one based on their much more positive reviews. I bought one of their specials hoping to check out the location before making any sort of commitment. I was informed that I had to purchase a membership on top of the special in order to use it. No thanks, no way I was giving them my credit card after having it charged for services I never bought at the other location. I left and will just take a loss on the special I purchased. I will never be returning to a Sun Tan City read more

Great experience! Salon manager was very professional and helpful. Enjoyed my visit! There are numerous options to fit your tanning needs, and there is no pressure to buy to buy into a package you don't need. read more

I went in with 2 friends for the "free" first time spray tan that Suntan city offered on their website. I clicked the link that says "view details" just to make sure it wasn't a scam, and the page just refreshed, no details. That should have been the first red flag, but I decided to call them just to confirm. I was on hold for over 15 minutes and just decided to go for it. There was no fine print. I also downloaded a $15 spray tan coupon just in case. When I got there the woman working informed me that that was only a Sun- Wednesday deal, when it was stated NOWHERE on their website. Fine, I would use the $15 coupon because $15 is still a fine deal. Alas, it wasn't. She said I must also pay for the primer. When we asked to not include the primer she didn't even give us an option and said "you must have the primer or you will be streaky". I am no stranger to spray tans, I always exfoliate and moisturize before which is basically the same as primer. She wouldn't allow us to get our spray tans without it, and we had spent money on an Uber to get there so we decided to just get it over with. The entire ordeal was $26. read more

I get spray tans fairly often at the Sun Tan City on Pantops and have found it to be a generally good-great place in terms of customer service, but tonight's (Friday) spray tan experience was just a little bit more awesome. Bit of backround: I'm going to an outdoor fundraiser tomorrow (Halloween) and wanted to bring my dog but didn't have a costume ready ... The associate working that was learning the computer system, checking me in, yadda yadda, was asking what I was up to for Halloween, etc. while computer issues were being resolved .. She had a red shirt on with a little decal of "Netflix and Chill" secured on the shirt with safety pins as her costume. I remarked that I wished I thought of that because that would be perfect to put on a little cape for my dog!!.. [ okkkk, I'm a little obsessed with my dog ] Anyway, she took the decal off her shirt and gave it to me to use for my dog... and it was just the sweetest thing. She was brand new to the job, and so so sweet given the whole issues with getting my account pulled up. I left with a huge smile. Thank you, Kristen. read more

The staff is super helpful and makes an extra effort to make sure you're getting the best deal possible!

3/12/2017 -Attention to whom it may concern - This review has been a long time coming. Let me just say I have been a member of Sun Tan City before it was even Sun Tan City. I have given this company so much money I could probably own my own by now. I have really noticed in about the past year they have become SO corporate. THIS COMPANY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMERS ONLY MONEY$$$ They make this very clear the second you walk in the door HASSLING you to by there products to the point were you feel cheap for not giving in. I know the employees do this because part of there pay is commission (had a friend that worked there). As this is a great tip to get there employees to sell more it is VERY agitating to the customer to hear the same sales points every time you put your foot in the door. Over the past years I have had on and off pregnancies weather I have misscared or carried to full term they do not cater to a pregnant women. I have had so many bad experiences there: from being out of my contract for a day and having to pay a "new member fee" to re open the account a day later. To that past two days were the have honestly ruined my whole day. YESTERDAY I went to the Charlottesville RIO HILL location. I am out of contract and was going in to take advantage of this "free spray tan week".(Just to see if i could get some kind of good out of this company). Of course I walk in and what am I told...I OWE THEM MONEY. When I signed up last I told the gal I wanted it for one month. NO ONE told me i needed to physically come in to cancel it. NOR did anyone show me a contract or offer to print one. She called Customer service and got them to reduce to the prorated amount. (WHY DO I NEED TO PAY ANYTHING IF YOU CAN SEE I HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN THERE.) I left yesterday without tanning as I didn't bring any money because I was going to a "FREE SPRAY TAN". I told myself I was never going there again. I woke up this morning and decided I really needed this spray tan. I went to the PANTOPS location in Charlottesville. Paid off the prorated amount just like they wanted. THE NICE GENTLEMEN( wish I got his name) told me I was next in line to spray it should only take a minute. I waited for the lady to come out and she did. At this time I would take it was 11:30 a women came into the salon who seemed to me to be an employee. She got on the computer and put herself in front of me to get a spray tan. I watched it all happen. The gentleman new what happened and basically apologized. Not going to lie I cried because I am pregnant and emotional but what this employee who jumped in front of me didn't care to realize is I live 25 min from my nearest sun tan city. I have a 1 year old and NEVER get the chance to tan, now I couldn't tan because I had been waiting to spray tan for 20+ min and would be late to work. SO 2 days in a row this company has wasted a lot of my time and does not give a lick about their customers. Don't give this money hungry company anymore money! read more
