My parents purchased solar from a HORRIBLE company that sounds a lot like 'SunFun'. After they passed away, and the house was sold...we were STILL making the monthly payments for over a year!!! That SunFun organization REFUSED to transfer the solar to the new homeowner, and eventually stopped taking or acknowledging our calls. It wasn't until we had to threaten the new homeowner with a lawsuit that SunFun finally transferred ownership. Due to this, we could not trust any of these solar companies...that is, until Kevin Bedard came to our home, and explained everything in great detail to my husband and I. He took the time to hear about our concerns, and he showed us how he truly cared. That same week, we spoke to two other families who shared their positive experiences about Ambrose Solar that made us feel that we would be in great hands. We had FINALLY FOUND A PEACE about getting solar on our home; KNOWING we would be in good hands, and we were ALL IN. Any home renovation project has bumps, and this one had its fair share: after initial install they monitor the systems production remotely to see if it's doing what it's supposed to/expected to, and my system was initially under-performing. They caught it and sent out a team to problem solve it, which took a couple tries, but they didn't drag their feet, they kept on it and kept at it and got it resolved. It was no fault of theirs, just a technology glitch. Core fear was that they would give up after a couple failures and leave me following up with them to get it done, but I never had to worry about that. I also did not end up liking where they placed the control box- it was something that was going to make future maintenance of my house trim problematic down the line. They willingly moved it up a few inches for me (and my only complaint was the team that did that didn't patch the original hole as efficiently as they should have. If I had understood the box placement better on the first pass that would never have happened, so this is a bit of a complaint of my own making.) Jon Landsman, who sold me the system, stayed with us the whole time tracking the project, checking in, and following through on every detail, every question, every concern. He never made me feel like the demanding diva that I am, was always prompt and gracious! The bottom line is that start to finish, even with a few bumps in the road, I have zero question that this is a company that legitimately cares about doing what is right. We hired them last spring to re-roof our home, replace some rotted eaves and fascia and replace our old solar system (it was inefficient and malfunctioned quite a bit). We are very happy with what we got for the price we paid, it was a good value. It looks so much better than it did before and is consistently producing more energy. I feel like they helped us make the right decisions through the whole process, especially for system size to be able to keep our NEM1 status. The new roof looks great and works really well. I waited almost a year to write this review to make sure there wasn't any water intrusion during the winter storms - not a drop anywhere. They were in the mid-high range in pricing on the bids we got, but I'm happy we spent a little more went with them. Can a roof be sexy? Ours sure is. And then even after asking them several times to please pick up their garbage they use our parking lot in our residence like it's their own personal trashcan. We have a complicated roof-line and Citadel did their best to squeeze as much solar as they could onto it. The roof work was quick and done well. They stayed in communication via email and kept us in the loop. Our sales rep, Liam, was great. The reason for my review now, is that we had a small gutter leak develop in a very inconvenient place, right over a doorway. I emailed Liam about it as a warranty issue and they sent someone out within a couple days. Unfortunately, during the next rainstorm we discovered that their first visit didn't solve the problem. I emailed Liam about it again and they came back out again in a few days, and this time fixed the problem for sure and tested it. The easy service after the fact really makes me glad I chose them!

The prices and quote times were made VERY clear ahead of the work so that I knew what I was getting and for how much. Two examples of Phase One going extra / above and beyond are their willingness to take feedback and send someone out, one day after the job was done to fix one small cosmetic thing I'd found after work was complete. Most other contractors once they're paid are really hard to get a hold of, but not Chris at Phase One. Super responsive. They have experience working with the City Offices here and their comfort with the inspectors who show up is because they stand by their work. We wanted him to add 4 solar panels and do a couple of small interior projects. He didn't know that the City of Davis requires all PV projects to be permitted and that it requires any unpermitted project to be brought up to then-current code upon sale of the house, plus that it requires PG&E to be notified for PV permits (which would then cancel our NEM 1 status). So we had to drop the PV, but also added a bathroom fan. Instead of doing a change order, Chris considered that we'd cancelled the project (entitling him to keep our deposit), even though as a former contractor he probably should have known about City of Davis permitting and informed us about that at the start. In the end he kept half our deposit, but the communication wasn't great. He could have kept us more informed throughout, and told us if he didn't have experience with PV in Davis and would have to do a day-and-a-half of research at the City of Davis (as he says) for the project. Make sure you have everything very clear about your project in advance.

I love the system and it works just fine. The problem I had was that there is something you're supposed to do in the garage [where pipes, pump, holding tank, backup gas on-demand water heater, etc. are on the wall] before you change the little switch on the thermostat panel in the house from Summer to Winter. My old housemate [who recently moved out] used to go into the garage for a couple minutes and then come back into the house and move the switch from Summer to Winter. The thing is, I didn't know what she did in the garage! ------Open/close a valve? Check water level somehow? Turn something on that was off? Fill something? Drain something? Maybe she did nothing, just looked at the wall to see that everything was normal, not leaking, etc. I had been unable to contact her about this. Then one day on my bike I saw a car drive by with Talbott Solar and Radiant printed on the door and thought, 'they must know'. Later I found their website, left a voice message and also emailed my question to them. That VERY SAME DAY I received a reply saying they'd come by tomorrow to help me out. Wow! I'd been toughing it out the last few weeks without any heat, and now, as near freezing night temperatures were forecast for the next few days, I really needed to get the solar radiant floor heat going. Dean, the owner, took only a couple minutes to show me what was what, answer questions, and what to do. No charge. I am grateful and delighted with their oh-so-helpful, friendly and timely service.
