Several people have recommended this place to me, so my family finally decided to give it a try. Although there are tables inside, it's carryout only. The staff was very friendly and took the time to answer our questions and offer several recommendations. I ordered the sesame chicken and almond chicken combo with fried rice. While waiting for our food, I was amazed at how busy they were, customers were constantly coming in and out, which is always a good sign. When I got my order, I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portions, especially the amount of chicken they gave. My mom ordered the pepper steak and said it was very flavorful and cooked well. Overall, everything was fresh, tasty, and worth the wait. It's easy to see why this place has so many loyal customers. The food is below average. I'm not sure what all the hype is about. I paid roughly $9 for a small pepper steak with rice. Asked to upgrade to fried rice and was quoted $20 including an egg roll. What?! The Yang Chow fried rice comes with snow pea pods, water chestnuts, carrots, and mushrooms...very gross. The Caucasian woman at the front counter is dismissive and rude. Sun China in Detroit is a great spot for classic Chinese takeout. The shrimp fried rice is full of flavor with big juicy shrimp. The sweet and sour chicken is just as good and the portions are huge with plenty for leftovers. I called in my order and they said it would be ready in twenty five minutes and it was ready right on time when I arrived. I've been going here for years, but usually when I'm craving Chinese and my regular place just down the road in Redford is closed. Their General Tso's Chicken and shrimp fried rice is great. I'd suggest skipping their egg rolls. We used to go there many years ago to dine in, but it started changing there. Their added bulletproof glass, hookers near the parking lot, etc made us not want to dine in. I'll still go, grab a fast takeout and get out of there. Today I was greeted at the door by a man that appeared to be on meth asking for .43 cents because he was "a 35 year old loser". Those were his words, not mine. I was searching for someone who could prepare my favorite dish, Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, after our local restaurant closed down. Hubby was traveling via Telegraph to visit a friend and we both wanted Chinese for dinner. We used the handy-dandy Yelp map feature and settled on Sun China, which Hubby picked up on his way home. The first thing to note is that the service for carry out is quick. We ordered no more than 10 minutes before Hubby arrived at Sun China and the food was waiting. And it was freshly made, as evidenced by it's hot and crispy nature when it arrived home with Hubby. Hubby ordered sweet and sour chicken; I ordered sweet and sour shrimp; we shared an order of crab Rangoons. It was all good. The sweet and sour chicken was particularly noteworthy for the tender and juicy chicken. The Crab Rangoons were also delicious, with a deep, savory, crab flavor. The sweet and sour shrimp were just OK. They were flavorful and well fried, but there was more batter than shrimp and the portion was noticeably smaller than the chicken. We ordered the dinner combos, so each order came with chicken fried rice and an egg roll. The chicken fried rice was nicely flavored, with plenty of chicken chunks, and the egg rolls were nicely spiced and fried. I normally go during lunch hour for the special price of course and same amount of food. In which their food portions are enough to feed at least two people as long as they aren't trying to go over board. I haven't dine in - pickup order only which takes about 15 mins. But I will say dining in isn't bad because there's also seem to be a few people inside - unfortunately I only see one waitress serving even when there's a larger groups. As of right now this is my "go to" place for Chinese food - i'm still searching. Please note - this isn't a romantic place but it's more like for families and/or something to dine at if you can't think of anything else to eat. Low prices and good food but not the best. Love this place. This is my families favorite Chinese food restaurant. My favorite part is when I bite into the chicken it's always white meat, fresh, and most importantly always tastes like REAL CHICKEN. The inside is small so I never really eat in here. It's just not a good spot to sit in with two small babies. Their spring rolls are the BOMB! And so is the filling sauce! In the summer it's hot as heck inside though, so probably just place a carry out order and then go home and eat lol. I don't know about anyone else but I do not like being hot while I'm trying to eat. Order ahead, because there can be a wait sometimes.
