General Tso Chicken and a huge "side" of Lo Mein
    DeMario M.

Tried this place today. Been searching for some decent Chinese food. A friend recommended this place. The inside could use a makeover. There's a few spot to sit and dine in if you want. The line is super long whether you are picking up or ordering so order by phone and pick up. I was excited to see a long line because I automatically assumed the food would be a hit. I ordered the General Tso Chicken and side of Lo mein. Took about 30 mins before I received my food although I called beforehand. The chicken was ok (like the General Tso seasoning but something was weird about the texture of the chicken). The lo mein was really good however. Portion size are huge so 2 meals in one. If I go back, I would probably try the sesame chicken because I everyone else was ordering that.

Food is great, dinner portion size is gigantic, and it's very reasonably priced. Love this place

I've driven passed this place for years and always thought it was abandoned. Up keep is very poor inside and outside. Looking passed the bullet proof glass, it's seems very cluttered and disorganized in back as well. I tried this place as a friend recommended it. The food was pretty good and priced well. They use larger shrimp in the fried rice and brown gravy was really good too. I probably won't be back just based on the cleanliness of the place. There are other Chinese food places that taste just as good but don't have you worried to eat what comes out of the kitchen. The lady was nice to me, she of course has an accent and speaks quickly and may be hard to understand by some.

It looked sketchy from outside so I never tried to go in. I'm glad I finally gave it a try. The food was good. Maybe Not authentic Chinese but still good enough.

I was driving my parents back from their various doctor appointments and they were craving Chinese food. I figured there must be some places near their apartment so went to Yelp for suggestions. Pekin Pavilion came up as a possible choice. Overall the previous reviews rated PP just above average so I went for it. From the street PP did not have any real curb appeal. The building from the outside looks like it's about to come crashing down. The signs looked like they seen better days. I probably wouldn't have even given it a second thought and kept on driving were it not for Yelp. There was one car parked in the small lot that I assumed was waiting for food. Going inside the place smelled musty and the ceiling looked like it could cave in at any time. I heard voices behind the glass but I couldn't tell if anything was happening back there since the glass is plastered with menu items. It took me calling out three times before I finally heard a voice in the back politely say to wait a minute for service. A minute or so later the aforementioned lady came out and asked for my order. I wound up per my parents' request ordering shrimp fried rice, shrimp w/ peapods, and three egg rolls. She was loud but came across as polite. She told me the food would be ready in 10 minutes. And it was. Aside from my Mom complaining about the dry rice (it was a little dry) everything tasted pretty good. There was enough sauce between the sweet and sour for the egg rolls and the shrimp w/ peapods sauce to make up for the dry rice. It seems like a good spot for Chinese on the fly so I think we'll be back.

The wait is shorter than in the recent past. The food is still the best in the area. My favorite is general Tao chicken.

Oh my gawd! I had no idea the portions were that huge! Los todo grande. The egg rolls are basically a small burrito - packed completely.

You can't park on Woodward, so you risk tearing up your car driving through the alley and significantly deep potholes holes to park and pick up your order. It's in the new center area, so I was really DISAPPOINTED. I stopped eating Chinese food a long time ago because of the lack of service and connections to the communities they serve. My mother wanted shrimp fried rice, so I thought I would take a chance. Don't EAT here u less you don't have a choice.

Now, that might still start a war if you have to share, but they are all for me. And despite how much I love them, even I can't eat that many at once. Which means enough leftover for the next day. They also have Coke products. I wish they had Dr. Pepper but at least it's not a Pepsi-house. I also like their packaging, they use the old school take-out cartons for the fried rice, a recyclable box for other things, and the rangoons come in a wax bag. So I don't have to feel like a jerk having to throw away a ton of styrofoam containers. I really like their pork fried rice. The chicken low mein is good, lots of nice pieces of chicken but almost no veggies and sometimes the noodles are a little overcooked. But it's all very consistent and reliable which is important. Hubby and I laughed at how many times we zipped past the restaurant without noticing it. My husband and I both ordered the Major Tom Khatsu, which has a coconut chicken broth base. The chicken katsu pieces were the perfect level of crispy without being heavily breaded. There was also a nice little kick to the dish, which made it so, so yummy. Our friends got the Shoyu ramen with pork belly, and the Corned Beef ramen. The Shoyu dish seemed to be more enjoyable. Though we stuck with water, cans of Faygo pop seemed to be the drink offerings - other than alcoholic beverages. Areas for improvement include the waiting. Johnny Noodle King is a small place, with a main dining area and then what seems to be a bar area attached. We initially waited by the door for our table along with another small group (we were a party of four). We were then asked to go to the bar area to wait so that it would clear the door, but found it interesting how we were asked to move but not the other group. Also, we were standing away from the doormat we were not obstructing anyone's movements. The wait was long, and we asked if we could order food to the bar area (as opposed to waiting for a table). We were told 'no', yet there was a table full of patrons who were eating. There was no notification system, so our friend had to keep going to the front to see if our table was ready. Don't get me wrong; 'hooray' to Johnny Noodle King for having such great business volume. However, they need a way to manage it so that people will not be put off. Once we were seated, we did have good service from our waitstaff, and the food was very good. My husband and I plan to return to explore more of the menu. Hopefully, we can pick a time of day when waiting won't be such a big issue.
