On March 23, my father and I brought his vehicle to Sun Auto for diagnosis and repair of an overheating issue. We worked primarily with Karl K., who was professional and thorough. After receiving a detailed inspection report, we authorized repairs only related to the overheating concern. The initial estimate was approximately $1,400, later expanded to ~$2,100 with additional approved items. Approximately one week later, I was informed that additional labor had already been performed due to complications encountered by the assigned technician, Robert Martin. This resulted in an unauthorized increase of approximately $700, which was neither discussed nor approved prior to the work being completed. This raised immediate concerns regarding billing practices. After nearly two weeks in the shop, we were informed that despite the repairs, the vehicle continued to overheat and the shop was uncertain how to proceed. During an in-person visit, interactions with staff (excluding Karl K. and the General Manager, Travis) were unprofessional and defensive. While the General Manager acknowledged communication failures and removed the unauthorized charges, the technician was unable to clearly explain why the overheating issue persisted after the repairs. After being encouraged to allow additional work at no cost, we agreed. Two days later, we were told the issue was resolved by bleeding air from the cooling system. We retrieved the vehicle immediately. Upon pickup, the vehicle was returned with loose bolts placed on the windshield and a non-functional hood latch, an issue that did not exist prior to service. Despite photo documentation, Sun Auto has refused responsibility, attributing the damage to vehicle age and denying fault. While Karl K. acted professionally throughout, the overall experience reflects serious concerns regarding authorization, workmanship, vehicle handling, and accountability. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I took my truck in for an alignment after getting a new set of tires installed down the street. I paid for the alignment, and when closing time came around, they handed me my keys and said everything was good to go. I trusted Mike and his team, especially since the tires were brand new and should've been taken into consideration. Before taking it in, I had already replaced the inner and outer tie rods myself, so I knew exactly where everything was set. Two days after the alignment, I noticed my front tires were wearing extremely on the outside. I got under the truck to check, and the adjustment nut and locking pin were in the exact same position as before--pin even bent the same way. It honestly looked like nothing had been touched. I then took it to Brake Check in Round Rock, and they found the toe was extremely off on both sides. They provided a printout showing the before and after adjustments. Another concern was that Mike mentioned I needed additional suspension work that would've cost around $900. Brake Check didn't find any issues, and my truck has been running great since their alignment. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

The other part was underneath and was about $115 at ORiellly. I replaced. it plug and one screw in about 15 min. When I called them about this, they said "they had not applied the discount yet'" They also tried to get my mom to put down a $500 deposit. After speaking with Travis and Jacob I rescheduled my appointment for an oil change and cabin air filter replacement. They were very accommodating: 1. Had to push my appointment later same day, due to a meeting a work 2. Was still about 20 minutes behind the schedule time but I was in no rush and told them that. I had taken off the rest of the afternoon just in case! From start to finish it took 57.4 minutes, I appreciate them reaching out to let me know they were short staff the first time I stopped by and offered a second chance remedy. Horrible communication and service. My vehicle is still having the same issues even though sun auto "fixed" it. I also learned that despite being told all their mechanics are ASE certified that is NOT true. They have a shop foreman that signs off on all the work that is completed by the tech. Unfortunately it was a very expensive lesson for me. I'm going back to the dealer so they can fix what Sun auto charged me for but has yet to repair after almost a year and multiple trips to their shop. read more

I go to SunAuto for my oil changes (they have discounts periodically) and yearly tags. Today I needed a tire repaired after my late husbands attempt at patching it. It didn't take very long & they didn't charge me! I will never go anywhere else for these issues. They don't try to up-sell you like Discount Tire does & they have seasoned techs, not a bunch of unknowledgeable kids working in the repair bay. I highly recommend SunAuto on Rivery. Customer beware!! Here's my poor experience review with Sun Auto in Georgetown.  On Jan 13th, I took my truck in for an oil change and emissions inspection. I had a 10am appoint and arrived on time. I was told it would be quick. I waited for 1 hour and checked on my vehicle. It was not even taken into their bay yet!! They let me know I had 1 vehicle in front of me. My truck was completed 2.5 hours later for an oil change and state emissions check. After my vehicle was ready, they let me know I could use a brake replacement and quoted me at $2,000!! I declined, called a few other locations and was quoted between $1,000-1400. I did them myself using O'Reilly's and spent $230. They tried to up charge me over $1,700 for labor!! They also notified me that my truck failed the emissions test due to a vent control circuit. I SCHEDULED an appointment (again) for a few days later. I was told it would be fixed pretty quickly. It took them a day and a half to complete the work!!! I could not believe that - for a scheduled fix!! When I picked up my vehicle the next day, my truck battery was DEAD. I had their mechanic jump start it and had to jump start it for several days after until I replaced the battery myself. There were no issues noted in their inspection and I did not have an issue with the battery when I gave them the vehicle. When I called and spoke with the Assistant Manager, Steven, I was told to bring in the vehicle and they would "make it right." When I came in, he tried to charge me full price for a new battery claiming it was my fault and they never touched the battery!! I would strongly recommend staying away from Sun Auto in Georgetown. The Assistant Manager, Steven, sounds like a used car salesman and took no ownership of the long wait times, poor customer service, and lack of accountability. Terrible place my friend took her car to get one of the lug nut bolts replaced and they quoted her 800$ how is that even possible when the wheel bearings that come with the bolts already cost 100$, wtf is the labor cost here 400$ per hour or what? What happened was they went thru my car and told me I needed $6,000 in repairs. They never mentioned anything about ticking issue. I was handed paperwork stating i needed new front and rear struts? I came in here and mentioned that I was on a tight budget, and got a coupon in an email for $15 off. They perform the oil change and we were checking out, the price was the same as last time. I asked the guy about it, and he didn't ask to see my email, just handed me a sheet for $20 discount. This one had to be filled out and mailed in. I checked out and returned to my car, and upon reading the email that I had received the other day, the discount would be applied right there at the point of sale. Given that money was really tight for me. Currently, I went back inside and talk to the guy at the counter again. He told me that all sales were final. I came out to my car, after telling him, that would be my last oil change with Sun Auto. And while I was filling out my review, telling of my incident, the manager, Travis, showed up. Travis was concerned, and wanted to know what happened and I told him. He asked me to get out of the car and come inside with him, stating that he would process the $15 discount, and I could still use that $20 discount sheet online as well. The other agent sent Travis out there... This means that Sun Auto really does care about their customers, each, and every single one of you. I will continue to come back here for my oil changes, because of Travis, and because of the other agent, who sent Travis out there to rectify the situation. I have owned maybe 20 autos - I have 5 kids - and I have been in the aircraft maintenance business for 35 years, purchasing repairs on a daily business. I have never run into a repair shop like this. Incompetent and dishonest and a 'family business'. OK'd $1600 on a BMW. Got a call. Now they are 'reaching out to me' for $400 more. What the heck, we all make mistakes on estimates. Pick it up - I'm a little grumpy but I eat the change. Drive it to my home - get out. It still has a leak. Drive right back. "Cody says "well the leak could have happened on the way home." There was no warranty and there wasn't. Now another $1600. $3600 Called their corporate headquarters in Phoenix. Got 'Wes', He listened patiently - agreed it didn't seem right to him - would check with Sun Auto in CEDAR Park. Got back to me. Well, um, duh he wanted to refer me to local Austin manager. Called him, left message. Still waiting. That was about 6 months ago. 'And they advertise that they are a 'family owned' business. Cody and Wes and the rest are a nightmare. Use this place a few years ago. Good service at the time. Not any more. I had my vehicle serviced for a few things recently. I had them replace a broken motor mount. The did a good job on it but I was told it would be likely only 2 hours or less of labor at most. It ended up being double that in labor costs. I also asked them to check and fix a transmission leak or identify where it was at. They found the leak and let me know what it would be and they would order it and everything would be done by end of day still. I also asked them to just visually check if my transmission mount was broken based on some odd behaviors I felt while driving. That was everything I had asked. I did not get my car back on day 1. I had to call them and they tell me they didn't even start it yet. Was told it would be finished early the next day. End of day two I call again. Sorry its not done yet. Issue with your transmission seal/part and finding it. Funny considering I was told the day before they had all the parts just needed to finish up. End of day 3 they cant find my part. Put some workaround washers in and I picked up the car. My bill was way more then I was expecting when I was told a couple hours labor at most. Was not to happy with how this service went at all. Here I am a few weeks later and the workaround on the transmission small leak did not fix it. I was also told my transmission mount was fine. Low and behold I still hear a slight clunk noise coming from the undercarriage around the tranny on acceleration. I jack up my car and crawl underneath and sure enough. Transmission mount is indeed broken(See Pic). So either it was never checked or I was lied to. Needless to say the service was just very bad. I am next in line standing there forever and they take 4 brand new incoming calls before they even offer to help me. How are you going to help people just calling over someone standing in line for quite a while. I would use this place with caution. Not a great experience at all. read more

They break the radiator (refuse responsibility) and then make it sound like a favor that they're only charging him $1600.(that included a replaced radiator). Forgot, their hourly rate also jumped $20. .. I'm all for second chances but in this case we got screwed. Do not trust them, get everything in writing! He said "I don't know" when they were done the charged me & immediately after I paid he said "your vehicle didn't pass inspection, once we see the check engine one we automatically fail it"...my question to him was if you knew this why did you take the car anyway? I have been using this company for at least 2 years for car maintenance and the first major repair I need was a complete disaster!!! They had my car twice over 24 hours both times and couldn't tell me what was wrong it. I had to call them multiple times to eventually find out that I need a timing chain repair. They also told me I authorized $2300 for them to tell me what was wrong with my car when I did not. I authorized $115 for a diagnosis. Then they told me it would be over $6k to complete the repairs. They added so much stuff on my ticket to replace a timing chain. Tried to charge me for an oil change when they just did one last month and brake fluid flush which they also just completed. They had no reason for why my car just sat up there both times for that long besides they are busy. Being busy does not override customer service!!! PLEASE do NOT take your car here!!! They are only good for an oil change and maybe an inspection if they don't rack up a million other things to charge you for too. Update: I have been to 3 different mechanics one including a dealership who ALL quoted me significantly less than Sun Auto for the exact same repair. They wanted 6k plus. The actually Mazda dealership doesn't even charge that much. read more

I can't even begin to say how horrible this experience was. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE FOR ANY REPAIRS! They will rip you off and they are not sure what they are doing. I wish i would have checked out the reviews before using them bc it seems like this is a PATTERN for them. I'm going to try and make this long story, short. We started out with an appx estimate of $1000-$1500 for coolant leak. Then it jumped to $3000. Then once they fixed that another thing "broke" and the total was $3550. They said the car was completely fixed and my daughter was ready to get on the road to drive 5 hours home. 45 min into the drive the car was giving a message of "drivetrain malfunction" which it had never said before. She had to slowly drive it back to the shop. When she dropped it off, several of the employees were arguing about her car and what should have been done. They realized she could hear and stepped into the garage and continuted to argue as if they weren't sure what they were doing. Her friend was waiting outside and heard them continue to argue about the car. Jacob told both her and my husband it was nothing major, no big deal they would get it fixed and would be ready to go by 1;00 PM. . I got a call from Travis at 5:45 pm, because it was Jacobs day off and told me that it was not quite ready, and that they wanted to drive it again the next morning to make sure all was well. I asked him I hope this isn't going to cost me much since we were only told it was minor and no big deal and that NO OTHER COMMUNICATION had been given to us and we had just spent $3550 and was told it was completely fixed. IF something is no big deal and an easy fix AND I HAVE JUST SPENT $3550 i don't expect to hear something is going to cost me ANOTHER $740!! I WAS so angry. He told me someone had to have authorized the work bc they wouldnt have done it otherwise. I ASSURED him NO ONE AUTHORIZED THAT WORK BC WE HAD NO COMMUNICATION OF ANY DETAILS BEYOND IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. I can assure you $740 is a BIG DEAL!! He told me they wanted to do the right thing and that he could take off the parts they put on and put my old parts back on. I told him that didn't sound like the right thing to do. We went back and forth arguing which was completely unproductive bc he was literally talking in circles. I told him lets wait to talk to jacob and all get on the phone and get things straight!!! The next day my daughter and husband both talked to jacob and travis and they just kept talking in circles to them. They kept us there another HOUR ARGUING over this we ended up paying another $250 to get the car and leave. We had a 5 hour drive and they had kept the car about a week. DON'T USE THEM THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. USE A COMPETENT AND HONEST MECHANIC ... I had an a/c issue and I brought it to the Georgetown Sun Auto. I was told that they would fix the part that I requested which was the actuator. Then for me that they change the actuator, but it didn't fix the problem I was called by an advisor and then by the assistant manager both had different information and different prices. My husband stepped in and ask them to get the AC working a few days later they called back and said that they put the actuator and it wasn't working and they were gonna need to do a different diagnostic. I couldn't understand why we were back at the actuator issue when he had requested that they fix the a/c. He chose to pay what was owed and take the car back without it being repaired, I gave up hope even though we have paid so much money, and the issue has not been fixed. GOOD NEWS- Kirk Dunderstadt district manager, for Sun Auto called me and told me he would help me, and he did!
