Auto Spec Georgetown should completely STOP offering EMISSION TEST!!! There is only ONE tech who does them and it is on a first come basis with wait times quoted as long as 2.5 - 3 Hours. To top it off the tech guy comes in at 9a and takes a 2 Hr. lunch break and leaves at 5 pm!! Last year I tried to get in, and they would say, "No emission test because HE called out today". Well, guess what? One year later and nothing has changed! I tried to get in yesterday if I were willing to wait 2hrs +. Then I called in today and they said to me again....... HE CALLED OUT! Used Auto-Spec for my last motorcycle inspection today [the State of Texas in its wisdom will still collect inspection fees for cars, bikes and diesels but starting 1/1/25 will no longer require an actual "inspection." If you can make sense out of that then you are qualified to be a Texas legislator too.] Got in without an appointment and waited less than 15 min. Inspection performed in less than 15 min. In and out with plenty of discussion with the tech while he's checking my bike and documents in under half an hour. That's a good deal. For state inspections - which go away in six weeks! - you do need to bring cash however. All other services done in their large and well equipped garage can be paid for in credit. Great service and they know what they are doing. Get all our inspections at their shop (4 vehicles ranging from 1964 to 2019), as well as repair. My background is in auto racing industry and aerospace, I have built 2 race cars and 2 hot rods including rebuilding engines and transmissions. Also reasonably capable welder. I was dreading the annoying task of getting my car inspected. I had dutifully called in December to make my appointment for an inspection sometime in January, based on prior experience with a lengthy wait time necessary to get this service performed. I was told I could no longer make an appt. for the inspection. Instead I just needed to bring the car in on the day of my choice on a first-come, first-served basis. Of course I was leery about this, but here was my reality: I was in and out in about 30 minutes on the last day of January! I took my older Toyota in for a range of small issues and a thorough once-over to hopefully keep it going another 20 years or so. AutoSpec was recommended and I took it in with the understanding that it may take a while to get some parts and troubleshoot some issues. They kept me updated and sure enough, a few parts took a while and took more than one order to get the correct part, but this car is an extra so the wait didn't worry me. I'm really torn about this place as their customer service really seems to vary on who you get working the counter. My mom started using this place about 6 years ago when she moved into Sun City Georgetown and she generally reports having a positive experience here. First thing in morning, I call and schedule an appointment at 430 to get her state inspection completed. Yet upon our arrival, the gentleman working the counter (dressed in a blue fishing shirt and cammo ball cap) can't find it--even though we spelled the last name multiple times. Finally he finds it in the computer but says our appointment isn't until tomorrow. Well, that sets my mom off into a tirade about how she's spent a lot of money on repairs over the years and expects better customer service. I tell her let's just go to Jiffy Lube, but then the guys wants to argue with a 79 year old for a while . When my mom finally asks for the manager, the manager simply says, "We have 3 or 4 state inspection techs inside. Pull one of them off and get this done". About 15 minutes later, the car passed and we're on our way out. On one hand, the manger quickly resolved the issue to our satisfaction, but the gentleman working the counter really needs lesson in customer service. read more

This repair shop lives up to its motto, "Building trust through honest, ethnical and thorough workmanship". I drove into my garage last week and my husband noticed a small puddle on the floor near my right front wheel. I put a pan in the area but saw nothing in the morning. I called Auto-Spec Monday and asked if they could check it. While checking the vehicle in I also decided to get an oil change. Later that afternoon I received a call telling me the vehicle was ready for pick up. I inquired as to the "damages" and was told the only cost was the tuneup. I must have run through some oil that splashed on to the underside of my vehicle and that's where the drip came from. I have been going to these guys for 4 years. I have had nothing but good experiences. A year ago I took my 2015 Kia in for an oil leak just behind engine. HONEST John, called me back after looking at it. Told me they could fix it but said I should look at the warranty as he thought it may still be under warranty. I did some research and found out it was indeed under warranty. I called Kia dealer and their customer support tried telling me it was not under warranty, after insisting it was, he went to his manager and found out it was under warranty. John saved us over 1200 dollars. They are not the cheapest. They are not the fastest. But they are the best. I look forward to being a life long customer! You can not buy integrity and honesty. They do great work. On time. Appointments are necessary. They do have seating separated for distancing. I was the only one in there wearing a mask. IF they have a mask required sign I never saw it. It was so busy I had to drive through the parking space to park. Chairs all filled. BEWARE SINGLE WOMEN! This business tried to rip me off twice. I called beforehand and received an estimate of $150 for an oil change. When I went in to pick up my car, the total was over $200. They charged me for 8 quarts of oil when my car only holds 5.6 quarts. I called back to complain and they said they didn't know how much oil to buy. WHAT? They also quoted me double for a repair. Please read this... John is the best!!! I live north of Dallas and as was driving to South Austin about 10:30pm... and my 2012 Hyundai Sonata Turbo starting make a lot of noises and running horribly. I pulled over and checked into a hotel for the night. The next morning, I searched the web (on Yelp) and picked and called Automotive Specialists in Georgetown. John answered the phone and said he would look at it immediately for me since I was on a long weekend mini vacation . A few minutes later, as I was waiting for the tow truck... John called me back and said that he thought about what I said and the way I described the car noise and ride... So he talked to his best friend who is the service manager at Beasley Hyundai in Kyle... he said that there is a recall on my engine and instead of bringing it to him... take my car to Beasley Hyundai and through this recall by Hyundai... Beasley will be able to put a new engine in my car due to this engine recall!!! So I had it towed 40 miles to Kyle... and they are in the process of getting me a new engine installed! The final approval from Hyundai came through today! So if it were not for John being upright, honest, truthful, smart and helpful... I would not be getting a new engine. waited 5 weeks for my appointment. what a waste of time. took vehicle in at scheduled appointment time, 10 a.m. at 2:54 pm i called the location and somebody told me my vehicle was on the rack. should be done soon. meanwhile this car has been in their hands for 5 hrs. i told the person i was speaking with to be sure to call me as soon as vehicle was completed. he said absolutely. during this time i have a person driving me to pick up car. at 6:30 no contact from auto-spec so i give up and decide to pick up in the morning. long story short i get dropped off 24 hrs later wanting to pay and be on my way. wrong!!!! the vehicle had not been touched. the i'm sorry was to little to late. i was made to feel as though i was in the wrong. read more

Called for an appointment on Thursday for a check-up prior to shipping a car East the following Monday. Arrived about 1PM and left vehicle, 2008 LexusRX350. Service called and said they found a small leak from a power steering rack, that was a safety issue. Gave me a price of $1,900 and said they could get the part Thursday and would repair it. Price seemed high, but had so ship car on Monday, so said OK. I checked Friday about 10AM and as told (not politely) they were working on it and would call me when ready. At 4PM, as no call & they closed at 6PM, I called. Service rep said "had not started on it"! I had to complain to manager about truck coming Monday AM to ship car and that service rep had "lied" about car being repaired. Manager said he would have someone work on Saturday and car ready Monday AM. It was ready on Monday ~ 9:30 and put on carrier about 1PM to ship. People at shop Friday did NOT repair car as was stated. Job took about 4 hours. Had Thursday and Friday to get done. GOOD was that they found the leak & Manager took control, as it had to be fixed. Price for parts was~ 3X what a new part cost on-line, $350 vs. $842.50 Labor costs are high, but as expected.They gave discount for coupon, etc. Total was $1,600. All ended well and have 2-yr USA wide warranty, but could have job done for about $500 less if had shopped around. Need better schedule management--do NOT promise if cannot meet commitment!! read more

I took my 1972 Buick GS in today. The front seal on the differential was leaking. I told the guys to go ahead and replace the u-joints while they were at it and to inspect the entire car for any other needed repairs. I was pleasantly surprised when they said the joints were in good shape and that overall the car looked good. No long list of recommended repairs! Of course, I new this, but was curious what they would recommend. In the future, I plan to take all my cars here for repairs. They do good work and only repair what needs to be fixed. read more

This is the best shop I have ever used! I had another shop install new front ball joints on my F250. My truck never drove right after the installation. I took it back to the original shop three times and to three other shops. All of the shops tried to realign the steering or readjust the steering box. One shop overinflated my ties. Another told me my truck is old (2004) and will never drive right. When I finally took it to Long's, they figured out that my ball joints were not good. When they took off the old (9 months) ball joints, we found that they did not match. The threads were different, one was loose and one was tight. Long's are honest, fair and respectful.
