Mark's Auto got us in within minutes after I called. They immediately took it for a test drive, and diagnosed the problem shortly thereafter. Turns out a rear end seal was leaking, causing the truck rear end to slightly lower itself, allowing the heat shield to clang and bang on the drive shaft. They resolved the issue and discovered that the front end 4 wheel drive was not properly activating itself due to a faulty vacuum issue, and they resolved that as well. I was out by 10:00 am and on our way. I want to thank Dan for taking his time to explain the issues so I had full understanding of what was malfunctioning. Can't ask for more than that! Called CJ's and spoke to Cecil. He said he could replace the starter today (first miracle) and gave us options on price. When we arrived they dropped everything to work on our truck. About 30 minutes later the truck is running. Cecil came in and said it was just a couple of the bolts holding the starter on that came out. He replaced them and $56 later we are on the road. When Rapid Towing picked me and my wife up, I asked for a mechanic shop recommendation. They recommended TDR Garage. The recommendation was a "grand slam home run." See, in my case it wasn't just about getting the car fixed, it was also about rescuing my vacation and the crew at TDR understood that. The car was dropped off just before closing time on Monday. A quick check revealed a punctured gas tank. They gave me a ride to a rental car company and I figured that we would have a few days to explore Rapid City. I was wrong. The next day they were able to locate the parts needed and the car was ready to pick up that afternoon. Between Teegan and the rest of the people in the office and at least two different mechanics, this was a team effort and they did a fantastic job saving our vacation. I contacted the local Chevy dealer, but they didn't feel my situation was any more of an emergency than any other vehicle in their shop and said 2-3 weeks before they could get me in! I tried calling multiple other places as well, but TDR understood my situation and got my vehicle in and out in a couple of hours after moving other local customer's' vehicles around to make room for mine. Unfortunately the towing company (not Advanced Auto Repair) did an awful job towing and actually damaged my van. I came to Advanced Auto Repair to get it fixed. The van was making an awful noise that made it uncomfortable to drive. Even worse, I had plans to move across the country to Oregon for a new job in just two weeks. Troy made a spot available for me on short notice and he was able to fix my van in a short time frame. He went out of his way for me as a customer and it really showed.
