This review is long overdue. I went to Summit Medical Group today for lab work. I walked in a tad bit late (Sorry!). I was immediately greeted with a smile by the phlebotomist. She verified my information and took me in after checking in the next person behind me. The service was fast, efficient and courteous. I do this review because I have been going to various locations of Summit Medical Group for 20+ years and for over 20 years the service has been spectacular. I started with them when my son was about 2 years old at their Short Hills location. I've used theirs Urgent Care, After hour Doctors, internal Medicine, Labs, Radiology, Gynecology, Podiatry, Orthopedics, Endocrinology, and a host of other specialties. Throughout the years I have had more memorable/pleasant experiences then unpleasant. I hate getting blood drawn and have 1 good, visible vain, but the staff always seem to put be at ease. The young lady today was more than great at her job (Shame on me for not getting her name, but she's been there for a few years), she was very professional and personable; it's because of people like her that Summit Medical Group is such a growing success. She not only provided stellar service, but World Class service. Not to mention the facilities and restrooms are always clean. So if you are seeking A great Medical Practice you may want to look at Summit Medical, they have so mNy locations Morristown, Florham Park, West Orange, Livingston, Berkeley Heights, WestField, Warren and some that I don't even know about, but they have worked for me. Truthfully I've only had 1 unpleasant experience in 20+ years and it's not worth writing about, because in this case the good truly outweighs the bad. read more

It's ironic that doctors expect patients to be perfectly on time, but frequently keep us waiting in the exam room for 30+ minutes past our appointment times. Horrible experience!!!! You're not even greeted with a hello from the phlebotomist. When my blood was drawn this morning it was more of a feeling of a stab in the arm. An hour later I have a large bump on my arm. I try to call and it automatically goes to a busy signal so you can't get through. The absolute worse bedside manner I ever dealt with. I wasn't coming here to write a review but when I sawcall the negative reviews I was compelled to do so. Unlike other local urgent cares, this place is very clean, very professional, they work in conjunction with the other departments in the building. Wait times are extremely reasonable for walk ins. Its not an emergency room or hospital so they can't treat everything. But I always go here first, and only go to the ER when they tell me to. For things like allergic reactions, stiches, broken bones this place is far more prefeable than the ER. ​ read more

Beware of the radiology/ultra sound department. Jessica Reis in radiology who did my ultra sound was a nightmare. Her personality and bedside manner were THE PITS. She was very rude and asked me if I wanted to do the ultra sound myself. If she doesn't like her job, and doesn't have patience for people, she should leave. She reminded me of a nasty school marm from the 1800s. read more

My wife went in to check that a burn she recently got wasn't infected. She saw the nurse first, she asked for allergies to medicine and my wife told her 3 she is allergic to. Then Dr. Miguel Giron came in and he put a cream on her burns and wrapped them in big ace bandages, as if she broke her wrists. This felt very unnecessary for 2 inch burns on the top of her hands. I asked him if she should mederma on when it heals, he said let me look it up. He didn't know what mederma was so he googled it then said oh yeah I think you can. He prescribed the antibiotic cream he put on. 5 minutes after we left, he called saying my wife should immediately wash the cream off because she's likely allergic to it. We're panicking now hoping she doesn't get a rash (the reaction she gets to that medication) on top of her burns so we rush back to wash it off. Dr. Giron then says to rip off the "dead skin", (the dark skin that was burned). He then starts ripping it off himself, it hurt her VERY badly when he did that and she made it clear how much it hurt. He said he knows it hurts but she should try to take all the dead skin off or it will get infected. He put bacitracin on with bandaids and he said he's not prescribing anything anymore. We then felt very uncomfortable with the whole experience and his lack of knowledge so we went to a dermatologist. The dermatologist told us to NEVER rip off the dead skin. She said you don't ever touch it or it will get infected. She prescribed an antibiotic cream to use going forward. Not only did Dr. Giron rip the skin off my wife's burn when he shouldn't have, he told her to try to rip the rest off herself, which we now know would have caused it to get infected. He also put cream on my wife's burn that she's allergic to. She put in a complaint to get a refund for this visit and was told there's a backlog of complaints and it will take a few weeks to get an answer. This guy was the worst doctor we've ever seen and we will never return to this urgent care. read more

Rushed with a lack of attention to detail. The provider rushed in and rushed out. Barely a question to understand what was going on.

Zero stars. I wasted my time and my money. Cost me $75 out of pocket. Ok, I needed the tests (covid, strep and flu) which all came back negative (AND I got an ADDITIONAL BILL FOR). Then, the Dr came in, barely looked at me and said "he could give me an antibiotic but it probably wouldn't do anything". I tried to guess what else could be causing so much pain, he didn't give me any direct answers. Ok, I went home. Well, it got worse and 2 weeks later, I am back at the Dr, getting and antibiotic and spending MORE money and taking off work. Pissed. read more

Be prepared to bow low to the QR code registration process if you seek care here. They've reduced the number of people in registration and invested in tech that will drive you crazy with questions you've answered a hundred times if you're a Summit doc patient. The lone front desk occupant shows little compassion for the tech anxious--especially if you're old. Tip: Ask for the clipboard and paper when you arrive. Go to any other place. I walked in with 3 people ahead of me in the waiting room, and I left 4 hours later. The PA there is a joke, and the imaging tech (asian woman) is really rude and has zero bedside manners. This was my second time rolling ankle, and the first time I went to an ortho practice for xrays. This time, it was the mid holidays, so ended up going to urgent care. The difference between the two, for the same issue, is TREMENDOUS. The PA here ordered xrays for everything above and below the ankle, for no freaking reason. Hello, no one's insurance nowadays covers imaging at 100 percent, we all have coinsurance for each service code. I'm not paying for unnecessary procedures just because you want to make more money. I had to tell the PA no, she still put the order in. So sat in imaging another 20 min waiting for a new order. And the X-ray tech nearly twisted my leg to do the images. In the otho practice, the doctor was efficient and the tech knew what they needed to do with the injury like mine - no twisting my leg, just simple tilt. So if you're looking to be overcharged for unnecessary crap, endure pain and rudeness, and spend 4 hours of your time sitting around and waiting, this is the place for you. read more

Upon walking in, check in was fast & easy. I was brought into a room within 5 minutes. Nurse/attendant Sonia was polite, efficient and went through all my information with me. Dr. Heller came in shortly and was thorough with her exam and discussing course of treatment for my cold/sinus issues. I had the best experience here and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. I never write bad reviews.... but I can't hold my tongue on this. Went here for a Covid test because I had all the symptoms of Covid. Being that every place was booked near us or had a few days wait I had to go here (work needed me tested before my return). I called my insurance who said anything involving Covid would be covered.... however once getting to this urgent care they informed me that NOTHING WOULD BE COVERED... and it would be at MOST.... AT MOST.... 400 dollars for the visit. Ok fine, I had no choice..... I asked a nurse again while waiting on the Covid line the costs and she said the same thing... UP TO 400.... I also asked the nurse at check in.... she said ALSO 400.... NOT ONE OF THEM SAID IT DID NOT INCLUDE MY COVID TESTING WHICH IS WHAT I WAS THERE FOR and what every nurse whom I spoke to knew.... So I finally get the bill today and guess what it's 612 dollars....... 612!!!!! No offer of a payment plan.... nothing.... just pay before a due date which isn't even listed ANYWHERE ON MY BILL.. These people are thieves. I understand nurses are stressed... HOWEVER I ASKED THREE NURSE.... THREE NURSES....when it comes to bills and money they need to be more upfront with their answers ESPECIALLY DURING A PANDEMIC AND RIGHT BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. I am sorry if this review comes out mean... I just don't like being lied to.... or having information left out on purpose.... especially when it involves money..... While I have found the providers (Doctors, nurses, technicians etc) to be very good, the hassles of dealing with the t/p system and many of the ancillary staff can be overwhelming. I have been a patient at Summit Health for almost 20 years and am too ensconced to change now, I would advise people who are considering SH to think carefully and read patient reviews before making their final decision. read more

Well I'm disappointed to see the reviews below but i had quite the opposite experience. This review is for the urgent care group. I'm 20 weeks pregnant and woke up violently ill . They took me within 20 mins and the nurses and doctors were very patient and kind with excellent bedside manner. They did several tests which were done right on premise which was great. Gave me an IV drip to rehydrate me and diagnosed when the tests came back. I'm grateful for them and glad I chose this over cityMD who treat people like cattle. read more

I rate this establishment one and a half stars, rounded off to two. This review of Summit Medical Group regards its Urgent Care facility at 574 Springfield Avenue, Westfield. My wife and I separately visited Urgent Care on August 12, 2017, and September 5, 2017, for emergency treatment. The reason we chose Urgent Care was, earlier that year, my wife accompanied our daughter, who is a patient of a Summit Medical Group physician, for treatment there. As both of us have different primary care providers, my wife asked if we could use Urgent Care. The Urgent Care receptionist said it was open to everyone, saying nothing about stipulations so when I needed immediate medical attention in August and my wife did the same in September we went there. Urgent Care staff did not request a referral, let alone mention payment, on either occasion. With the above in mind, wouldn't you think of Urgent Care as being no different than a hospital emergency room? To my shock, in March of 2018 Summit Medical Group mailed bills for those August 12, 2017, and September 5, 2017, visits. Half a year later? When I called to ask why, the staff said it was because we were not Summit Medical Group patients and did not have referrals. We've been members of an H.M.O. plan for years and never visited a health care office other than that of our primary physicians without a receptionist or the person making the appointment requesting a referral. Yet, the Urgent Care front desk employees say nothing about this? Had they asked for a referral we would gone to a hospital emergency room. Not being up front about this is immoral; if it is not illegal, it ought to be. Further, why call it Urgent Care - the two March 2018 invoices identify the establishment as Urgent Care - if you view it as an office visit for which the insurance company would require a referral? I can give this much credit to Summit Medical Group/Urgent Care: The person to whom I complained conveyed my story to the brass, who told her to reduce the amounts by fifty percent. Half a bundle is still a bundle, and medical bills are always a bundle, but I guess I'd rather pay half a bundle that's still a bundle than a full bundle that's more of a bundle. I encourage anyone who visits Urgent Care or another of these McEmergency Rooms to make sure a referral is not necessary. Next time, I'll go straight to a hospital emergency room. read more

Great medical staff in The Summit Medical Orthopedics & Sports Medicine at this location. Dr. Joseph Said, MD, has now performed surgery on 2 of my fingers for severe arthritic joint pain. I type every day for my profession and need to be pain free. I would recommend him to anyone who needs a specialist like Dr. Said. read more

Great medical staff, as always, and I would give it 5 stars except for their customer service. Booking an appointment for lab work at the Westfield, NJ location will be a terrible experience depending on who answers the phone. They clearly hired contractors -- people who work from home because the level of professionalism and even basic phone etiquette and manners was sorely lacking with the first person I spoke with. When I first tried to book an appt for a relative I got a woman who talked over me as soon as I started my first sentence, saying that lab work cannot be done unless the doctor is in the group. She must have said it 5 times really emphatically. I told her I didn't know if the doctor was in the group and I asked her to check. Long pause, so I knew she didn't want to help at all. Then she said "Um, let me switch you to the lab. At that point I was on hold for 20 minutes and finally gave up. I called again and got the same woman who answered the phone with, "Yeah?" Wow. I asked her if this was Summit Medical Group and she said, "Oh uh, yeah," as if she was in a hurry. I told her that I couldn't get a hold of anyone at the lab. She told me, "Just keep trying because there's only one person there, sorry." What an unhelpful jerk. Fire her and get someone else who is more helpful. Plenty of people need a job. I wasn't expecting her to part the waters but her lazy attitude and uncaring tone just rankled. Finally I called a third time and got a completely different person, who in fact offered to see if the doctor was a part of summit medical group. He also asked for patient's DOB, SSN, and booked my relative right on the spot. He couldn't have been nicer and apologized on behalf of the rude woman who I originally spoke to. read more

I have been a SMG patient for well over a decade. My experiences with them have been very good until this past weekend. On Sunday, my 80yr old grandmother fell and broke her ankle. I instantly thought to take her to Urgent Care in Westfield. The office is only open until 5pm. We arrive at 4:45pm and WE WERE TURNED AWAY BY DR. ALBERTO RIVERA. I don't care if you were getting ready to go home. Your office is still considered OPEN at 4:45pm. The staff and doctor had zero sympathy. When the doctor came out to tell us that he wouldn't see my grandmother, you could simply see and hear that he simply has no concern. Even a half decent doctor would at least check out someone who needs medical attention. I find this severely upsetting. I hope i will never need Urgent Care's services again. read more

Doctors here are quite helpful. Yes, it does take time to get an appt. Plan ahead and arrive on time. It's common sense. Best part is that for physicals, blood work is done a week beforehand and results are discussed live with the doctor at time of appt. I trust my doctor here. Very much. read more

Dr Zimmerman is super nice and very patient. The nurses in her Westfield office are just as sweet. I tried yelping OBGYNs , which is sparse. I also went to a doctor review website to find her. I'm so glad I researched. I did get a little lost and turned around trying to get to her office, but probably because I'm still trying to figure out Jersey. read more

A nightmare experience awaits with "Dr" DeMasi at SMG in Westfield. Be aware that this man is not an MD. He is a "Medical Review Officer" and his credentials are in Osteopathy. In other words, his training and philosophy are in the body healing itself naturally. Is this realistic in most scenarios? You can decide based on your personal medical issues. I made the mistake of scheduling an appt for a supposed "wellness" visit thinking I'd be getting a check-up. Within 2 or 3 minutes I realized by Mr. DeMasi's nasty demeanor that the inquisition was starting. The "wellness" visit was indeed a Medical Review (this is medicare lingo for determining your eligibility to stay in the program). He bullied me, was very sarcastic and was anything but objective. When I think back to this experience, what bothers me the most is that his behavior is being left unchecked in this facility - he was accountable to no-one. I walked out of the office and it was back to business as usual. Should this facility be managed this way? In closing, a friend had told me that she too had made the mistake of going to Dr. DeMasi for the required "wellness" visit. She referred to him as an "angry barking terrier." Neither of us will be going back. I wonder what his record for one time patients is? Maybe SMG would be wise to make note of this. read more

I arrived here at 420 for a possible broken finger. The door was locked but employees were walking around inside. Knowing they close at 5 I knocked on the door until a security guard met me outside and said theres no doctors there. I explained that I Needed an X-ray asap so he sent me to imaging next door. The very nice man at imaging asked if I had a script I told him they just sent me over because they claim there are no doctors over there. He called them and finally a nurse came over and said that there are doctors but because of the holiday they were busy and weren't going to take anyone after 4:00. This is asinine and I would not recommend this facility to anyone. As an URGENT CARE facility if you close at 5 you should take patients up until 459 no questions asked. Will not be returning here again. read more

If I want to talk to someone there they want me to leave a number. This is to say the phone system stinks. If I am not home they will not get me. This is called phone tag and is very inefficient. If they are inefficient in this they are most prob inefficient in their medical practice. Maybe the overpaid non medical execs think the seniors have a cell phone. Really unpleasant experience. PA Diana who saw us was impatient and didn't care about finding a solution. When we asked to see a Doctor the Doctor who saw us was patronizing. They acted as if seeing us was a burden. Will never come back here and tell everyone else not to as well. My mother had an appointment here for orthopedic care and almost instantly, their incompetence was clear. Despite my mother making the appointment and making it clear it was for car accident related injuries, the day of the appointment, the receptionists had no idea, questioning everything and then having the doctor himself come out and speak to my mother. The receptionists all hung out, helped no one, talked, had their lunch and played on their phones, though most of them seem to be older ladies and not teenagers. The appointment time didn't seem to matter either since we arrived early, went through all the trouble of finding out of they'd even see my mother and were made to wait even longer. This was all BEFORE the appointment. The medical assistant was better and again, the doctor took his sweet time despite waiting close to an hour. DO NOT USE SUMMIT MEDICAL GROUP. I went for a simple physical. While there the dr sprayed some water in my ears and I was charged with a "RMVL Impaceted Cerumen SPX" for $150 which of course my insurance paid none. When I ask for a review they of course kept it on the bill. I will never use them again and recommend others do the same. If you do then be sure to ask the doctor to inform you before he/she performs any procedures which may add cost. This is why US medical is the highest in the world and far from the best. All I wanted to say is how UNPROFESSIONAL one of their doctors is. Dr. Diane Heller treated me. Not only did she mock the pain I was in, but then I heard her talking about me and laughing about me with the nurses, all while I was behind a curtain. I heard everything she was saying. I felt humiliated and walked out crying. I don't want to see any doctors now affiliated with Summit Medical Group. She changed my entire outlook of doctors. I haven't felt as frustrated as I did today after leaving Summit Medical Group's Imaging Department in quite some time. After having an appointment canceled on me last week, I waited an hour in the office before being reprimanded by a technician, who told me she took her own time to make a special call to me about not having the proper CDs to do my follow up exam. She was rude and went out of her way to embarrass me. I will not be going back to this imaging place. Go to Barnabas. Better hours and a more professional staff. read more

it takes about 3 months to make an appointment with a provider,,on the day of appointment we were late by 15 mins because of rain and traffic and they cancelled us without even informing us. They want us to make another appointment which is another 3 months down the line. That is lack of consideration/respect for patients time. What good is a doctor if the doctor is not available for a patient. If they are overworked and overloaded with patients, it is not a good thing for patients. It is a waste of time to be elbowing people on the road, rushing to an appointment, only to find out that you are not welcome. read more

I went to see Dr. Mayer, ENT, who I've followed from location to location for years and thought highly of him as he is very personable and did listen to my issues. He ordered a CAT scan of my throat as I have major problems for a few weeks, and my primary care suggested I see an ENT. Well, after a week and a half, the authorization had yet to be pursued and the imaging facility called me and told me they did not pursue it. I had to cancel my CAT appt and reschedule and ask SMG to accelerate the authorization as my condition worsened. Yet another week and half went by and my appt with the imaging company was nearing, and AGAIN, no authorization pursued. I called the facility, and was very annoyed at the fact that the administration staff is incompetent. I actually got someone on the phone, who was filling in, who suggested I call patient relations, which I did, who then, FINALLY, on that very day, got the authorization with the insurance company. It's now a week later, and no phone call from Dr. Mayer to discuss the results. I don't think it's Dr, Mayer who is at fault, he probably doesn't know the results are waiting to be read, but unsure. I told SMG that I will NEVER return, as there were too many mistakes made and to get authorization from insurance is not complicated, it simply takes someone to do their job. I will not wait for a third mistake, as it could be my life at stake. I don't have time for SMG to do their jobs, as I know I have major problems. I sent the results to my primary care physician so I can discuss with him and pursue with another ENT. Needless to say, I won't return. read more

AVOID the Westfield urgent care. Either they hire docs with lack of experience or docs that can't get a job elsewhere. I went there for GI issues. I thought I may have a blockage, wasn't sure if I needed to go to the hospital. The so called doctor did not even listen to my stomach/intestines to hear if I had any bowel sounds. He then gave me a lecture on Miralax and MOM being fiber. OMG!! If I was not in so much pain, I would have laughed. When a doc does not know what is and is not fiber, it is pretty bad. So I asked him to please just get an xray done to see if I needed to go to the hospital and find out how full my colon was. I honestly no longer felt he was competent so the next day I went to get a copy of the radiologist's report. Well, it turns out the radiologist there is not great either. All the report said was nonspecific gas pattern, a term that is no longer recommended since it tells you nothing- (it could mean normal or abnormal, blockage or no blockage) and it said to correlate clinically, which the doc already proved he could not do or made no attempt to do. Bottom line- I would not go there again. Save yourself the time and money. read more

My husband was recommended to an internist in this group. He asked, before making the appointment, if they took our insurance. They said they did. When he checked in at the appointment, he gave them his insurance card. He had the physical, was given all kinds of ekg's, xrays, blood tests, etc. and, luckily, he is in great shape. A few weeks later, hundreds of dollars worth of bills came pouring in. We called to question the bills and were told that they took our insurance, but not our plan. We reached out to the doctor's office and was told to speak to the billing office. Spoke to the billing office who said she'd speak to the doctor. Meantime, we kept getting bills. Everytime we called, we had to remind them of the situation but of course they were "still looking into it". Now, we got a notice that they are sending the bill to a collection agency. So, I am now going to pay the bill for hundreds of dollars of tests that we were told were covered and that were probably not necessary and next year we'll find an internist that we can trust. read more
