I have given it six months to decompress after my horrible experience with everyone at Summit Funding. I thought long and hard about this review, whether to let it go, but I find so many outstanding companies on yelp, I owe it to others to share my story.
To be clear, everyone at Summit is incredibly nice. They have movie days for their clients. I bet you could call David at 1am broken down on the side of the road, and as a client, he would come get you. He seems like an incredibly nice man, but his team borders on incompetent.
I made the mistake of trusting a referral to Summit Funding from a realtor friend. Huge mistake. From day one, it was error after error. We were helping my elderly, nearly deaf father buy a home using his VA entitlement before he passed. It started with Robyn Lavassuer, who misquoted what we qualified for, almost landing us in the wrong neighborhood that would have changed our lives (for the worse).
When it hits David's desk, he corrected what we qualified for and got things moving. That was about the last thing his team did correct on the file. I have the emails from him stating "we have not lived up to our standard of service on your file"
On David's team is a man named Ted. Again, incredibly nice, but he should find a new line of work. Everything he said was hollow and could not be counted on. It took two weeks to get our closing statement, a process that usually take 48 hours or so. Lost our documents again Ted? Need things filled out again Ted? That is "the systems" fault. Well who made the system Ted? Summit, so it is your fault.
They blamed their system, they blamed the new TRID regulations. Go on youtube, and you will find videos of Robyn talking about the TRID regulations and getting ready. They knew it was coming, yet they bungled our file.
Get this: They had so much trouble figuring out our numbers, they waived their funding fee to make the numbers work. They basically did all the work for free, acknowledging how incompetent they were. It got so bad that David refused to communicate with me via email, only phone, as all of a sudden email was "not his preferred method of communication"....um yeah, this was to avoid any paper trail. For the record I was incredibly polite in my emails, even asking everyone after the first few errors to please give our file the attention we deserve, and the errors kept happening. Documents were not uploaded, things that should have taken hours took days (or weeks). It was really a comedy or errors and honestly I got the impression David was ashamed of how our file went, and honestly, he should be.
I do a ton of research when I chose a company, I even watched Youtube videos of Robyn bragging about how much money she makes as a loan officer. There are videos of David and his consulting work. Again, they all seem incredibly nice, but on our file they screwed the pooch from day one.
I thought long and hard about leaving this review, but I feel the yelp community should know how horrible our summit experience was. I wish them no ill will, but I hope they can grow from our file and be better. You do not get better without a reminder of how bad you once were, of the affect it has on people's lives when you mess up, and that is what this review is for. It is like a guy who was once fat keeping a photo of his fat self on the fridge to avoid temptation. I want our experience to be a guide to David for when he loses his way. We almost moved into a sketchy neighborhood because we thought that is all we could afford. Summit "changes lives", but with the service we got, is it for the better or worse?
A final thought: There are youtube videos of the president of Summit Funding, Todd Scrima, talking about how our loan officers picture should appear on each statement as a reminder in case we want to refinance. I am glad to say our statements do not have David's picture, I have a feeling that is intentional. Given the stress we went through, and the fact they worked our file for free, I am sure they are glad to be done with us also. read more
