Very rude front office staff. The lazy woman at the front desk clearly felt put out that she had to do her job, and didn't want to be bothered with a question about my insurance. I had my wife on the phone since she is the primary on our insurance, and I asked the woman at the front desk to talk to my wife to clarify that she was processing our benefits correctly. She flat out refused to talk to my wife on the phone. She actually said "I don't want to talk to her". Luckily I had not yet run my card to pay for lenses and frames. My family and I will never go there again. If you like rude and lazy office staff, then Summit Eye Associates is for you! read more

Summit Eye Associates - Was at eye appt. Had no idea they started doing cosmetics!! - Ophthalmologists Near Me - Hermitage, Tennessee

My husband had an appointment for his yearly diabetic eye screening. After his appointment he received a bill for something other than what his appointment was for. Our insurance company contacted them about the bill and the incorrect billing procedure. Summit eye refused to adjust the bill for the correct procedure. They never sent any results from the test, only a bill of which is normally covered by insurance for a preventative procedure. Be careful with this company as they are only out for the money. They do not care about the patients or what is wrong with you. It's only about the money. read more

The office is in the midst of a software change. Which they should have told me on the phone when confirming the appointment. An eye insurance card is not something I carry with me. Why would i when I only use it once a year and they had it on file?? Pretty disappointed in that. This visit now costs significantly more AND I waited over a month to get in for it. $180 for an eye exam and another $40 for contacts exam and then whatever the cost of the eye glasses or contacts on top of that?!? I may just take my script elsewhere. I'm a software trainer. I know when I convert offices, not all the data comes over. But I also know that I still have access to the old software to get that data if necessary. This appointment is a fail. read more

I have been a patient at Summit Eye for a decade now. I do not necessarily see just one doc, I see whoever is available to best work around my schedule. I have always had a good experience at this practice. I've not been made to wait long periods of time for my appointment. My exam has always gone quickly and smoothly but not so quickly that I feel rushed or that I don't have the opportunity to ask questions. On the contrary, all the physicians (Drs. Gates, Ezell and Young) are excellent at explaining things to me and taking time to make certain I am comfortable with all that has been discussed. My insurance has always been taken at this practice as well. I've had no problems just paying my co-pay for my annual appointment. That, in my opinion, is always a perk. There is an optical shop within the practice and the same holds true for the staff there: Always attentive and eager to assist - a very pleasant experience. That is important if you are paying your hard-earned flexible spending dollars on a pricey pair of specs which you will be wearing daily for the next year. All around, this is a great business and one that I am glad I go to. I highly recommend Summit Eye and hope you're as pleased as I am. read more

I recently came here in October because I had chalazions on my eyes that needed to be removed. The staff was very helpful with me, even though I did not have insurance and had to get the billing information sent to my home at the time. Dr. Ezell was very kind and caring, and scheduled me an appointment right away to have the chalazions surgically removed. The surgery day came, and I admit, I was very scared during the surgical procedure and even cried a lot during the procedure, even though they numbed my eyelids with medicine before doing anything. Dr. Ezell and her assistant were so caring and assured me that I would be ok. They took great care of me, and the procedure was finished in no time. I was given instructions about how long my eyes would heal up, and was given a prescription for eye ointment to help my eyes heal better. Unfortunately, I am still showing a bit of swelling on my eyes, even though I was told that the swelling would go down in several weeks, so I am hoping that the chalazions have not shown up again. I will probably have to make another appointment, but I will be glad to know that I am in good hands at this office. read more

I have been very happy coming here for years & have purchased 3 pairs of glasses in the last 2 years from their optical dept. This time, I did not receive the quality of service that I've had in the past. I had to visit the optical dept. 4 times to get glasses during this Covid situation & they are still not right. I couldn't make the optical techs understand my special needs when they measured me for lenses. Finally, one tech got snippy and said it was my fault for choosing the frames, when she was the one who fitted me in the first place. We Love Dr. Young, but won't be using their optical dept ever again! read more

Took my daughter to see Dr. Ezell for yearly eye exam for vision. Our family eye doctor is on medical leave, so this was our first time in this office and we are new to this doctor. Front desk gals nice, professional. Gal that took us back to exam room was professional and friendly and seemed to do thorough exam. Dr. Ezell comes in, doesn't acknowledge me at all. Speaks to my daughter (13y/o) during exam. Very rushed. She was in there for 2 minutes max. She doesn't introduce herself to either of us. Horrible service from a doctor. Doesn't ask if we have questions or concerns. Nothing. She walks out the door yammering about the next time we return, but no room for us to speak. I will not be returning to this eye practice. read more

Went in for a contact fitting. Got an eye infection from this place. They did not wipe off any instruments that they used on me. A few days later I couldn't see anything. I went in perfectly fine, few days later everything was all cloudy. I went back to get some assistance and Dr. Young told me, I didn't get it from their place, looked at my eyes and then charged me $150. This place is awful. Highly recommend you go anywhere else. Another professional and accommodating annual visit. Hard to believe I have seen the same opthamologists and contact lens professional for 15 years. I have never had a negative experience. Eyeglasses, surgery, eye injury, all addressed efficiently and effectively much to my satisfaction. Phone and face to face communication is great from the entire staff. A special ty to Linda in the contact lens department. I am always given the opportunity to wash my hands and take great care not to contaminate newly opened lenses. She has patiently worked with me on my every new whim. Thank you all for being a great team. See you next year. read more

Billing department is rude, not helpful at all. Dr Young is super nice but in and out quick. Unless you have something majorly wrong with your eyes don't go here. But then again, I wouldn't go at all since they try to cheat you out of money. This has happened to me TWICE. They don't properly bill your insurance, therefore send bills for random amounts of money. I gave them a second chance last year but they screwed me yet again. Just don't. read more

Everyone at this location needs to be trained in customer service. I've never been treated so badly by a place of business. And when I complained the Administrator suggested I find another doctor instead of dealing with the girls upfront. From the start a lack of professionalism was an issue and it never go better. I was referred to Summit Eye Associates by my primary care physician. I ended my relationship with Summit Eye Associates when they sent me a flyer inviting me to an event for their new line of business, Summit Cosmetics. I believe they violated US HIPPA Law when they sent out invitations for a cosmetics sales meeting to their optometry patients. When I questioned why they sent cosmetics advertising to me, a 50-something single male, they said I should share the information with my friends and let them all know they were welcome to attend. A HIPPA complaint has been filed against Summit Eye Associates. read more

Nice professional office. I got a prescription for glasses and contacts. The glasses were expensive but very well-done. The staff were very thorough and patient when adjusting my contacts prescription. Good quality costs money! Recommended if you have vision insurance, or refuse to compromise your vision by going to a cheap optician. read more

I've been going here for over 10 years and have always had a good experience. I stopped wearing contacts last year due to dry eye and having a difficult fit, but when I visited Robin in the contact lens department this year to see if I could get back into contacts, she was really helpful. She found the right lenses for me and I'm back to wearing contacts again. I couldn't be happier. read more

My wife had to pick up an emergency pair of frames for me when my frames broke. Because she did not know and thus did not tell them I had insurance at the time, they refused to honor the insurance discount afterward. Also, the optician told my wife "Beggars can't be choosey." about the frames, which was rude. Finally, they have banker's hours, as they close at 4:00 P.M. sharp. In general, they don't seem to care at all about decent customer service. Definitely would NOT recommend! read more

I can think of a few terms for this office but greedy is the best they want to bill as many insurance claims and get as many denials so that they can come back to the patient and ask for a ton of money! I would not go here if this was the last place on earth! I have never hated an office more and they think if you don't pay when they ask that you are being rude! Went in because my eyelid was experiencing some weakness. I also needed to have my vision rechecked as it had been a few years, and my glasses were no longer helping. The nurse was really nice, and checked my vision thoroughly. Dr. Ezell came in, didn't even look at me, said she didn't know why my eye muscle was doing what it was doing, and that she just didn't know. She then stormed out muttering that she didn't know what was wrong with me. The nurse asked about my glasses prescription, and the doctor barked that my eyes were fine. I think she was in the room for less than 3 seconds. I felt bad for the nurse who seemed as clueless as me about the bizarre exchange. Thankful for YouTube for exercises on strengthening eye muscles. The muscle problem is gone, and I would have saved myself a co-pay. Unfortunately, I still have that darn stigmatism that seemed to be completely healed for that three seconds when the weird doctor didn't look at me or my chart. read more

The front office people are personable enough, however I do not feel like they have qualified doctors. The doctor barley spent more than 5 minutes in the room, ran through less than 10 slides and told me my prescription had not changed (when every time I have been to my doctor in the past it changed every year) Glaucoma also runs in my family and he never even mentioned it. I had to ask what my pressure was and it seemed high but he acted like it was no concern. After having trouble seeing with the prescription contacts he ordered, I had to go back several times trying different contacts but not having any luck. The office told me it was just because I had an astigmatism, and that I would never see perfect.....but this is odd since I had never had so much trouble with contacts in the past. The staff is nice enough but I would go somewhere else if you want a good doctor who knows what they are doing. Seems like just another corporate franchise to me. read more
