The 3 stars is because it was clean and the 2 servers were working hard and did a good job. The food was awful. The patty melt was ordered medium and it came out beyond well done and even the stale rye bread was burned. The BLT had minimal bacon and a very small tomato. The sandwiches are made on very small slices of bread and are served without even a garnish so they look unappealing to start with, all alone on the plate. The pork chops were very overcooked and dry. He didn't even eat a whole one. The mashed potatoes were gummy. My chicken fried steak was decent but the rye toast was as hard as a rock. Waitress a little impatient, especially the older one. I can't hear that well, and she had a very demeaning tone to her. "I said there's only XYZ and not XYNZ" totally unnecessary. I have been here many times while visiting town, and each time it has been solid. It's your typical diner in all the ways that could mean. Service is also extremely quick, the food will be at your table within 10 minutes of ordering, usually faster. I have always been for breakfast personally but know they are open for lunch and dinner as well. I came here this morning with my dog. It was around 7:10am and we sat on the patio. I asked if that was ok. There was one woman working and she brought me a menu, took my order, and brought me and my dog some water when I asked. She never smiled, welcomed me in or even came back to check on me once she brought my 2 eggs with bacon, cottage cheese instead of potatoes, and 1 scrambled egg for my dog. I would have liked some salt and pepper, my table wiped down, and the check correct. I was the only one here. The bill came and there was a $1.19 charge because I substituted cottage cheese for potatoes, and I was charged for 2 scrambled eggs, not 1. I do not mind paying a fee for substitutions but they usually tell me. They gave me maybe 1/4 of a cup of cottage cheese. She fixed the extra egg charge but acted like I was putting her out. You could tell a lot of people dining in were regulars and close to the staff which was nice! I got a vegetarian skillet with no eggs and sourdough toast. My husband got eggs, toast, hash browns, and bacon extra crispy. We both really enjoyed our food! I think I personally prefer breakfast potatoes in my skillets over hash browns but still really good. June 10, 2022: Don't waste your time and money here! They don't even rate 1 STAR due to the horrible customer experience, server, and cook on shift! Came in on a Friday morning, 8 am. Place is empty. Cook had all the time to cook my husband's order correctly. Husband ordered 2 eggs medium. What came out were raw eggs, runny egg whites and barely cooked yoke--looked like eggs sunny side up! I personally couldn't look at them. My husband is a good guy and eats what he gets. But he couldn't this time. The server (only one who ALWAYS is there) there took the eggs away, returned them, and told my husband that the cook (who she says has 10 years experience) said to order them: "Medium Well!" Be aware we have been here before.They cannot and will not cook "eggs to order," as claimed. I said, "My husband never had trouble getting his eggs cooked here, medium, the way he wanted them. Other places know what cooked eggs "medium" are. Never a problem!" Then, the server said, " Well, go there then, you only come in here with a coupon, anyway!" Well, it just so happens the CHURCHES in the area support this restaurant. They give this restaurant advertising in the church bulletins! As a result, the diner gives an incentive to the parishioners to come in and eat.... with a small discount coupon! Menu prices here are not cheap and there are extra charges for a basic omelette....like if you want cheese!, or glutenfree bread, and for their expensive coffee that one has to beg to get a 2nd cup, etc. We are also in their Diner's VIP CLUB. But, What a thing to say to a customer! The other thing: This server does not take feedback and controls everything. No use talking to or calling up the manager--there is none!--and, this server controls the phone, too. Maybe this server is the OWNER and doesn't care! Or, maybe the OWNER is the cook! The restaurant advertises their values/principles, whatever you want to call them. They say the restaurant is all about the customer dining experience. My husband and myself have been loyal customers for many years....our favorite entree is the the Fish Fry. We never have been disappointed with the food or service......until tonight. We brought in friends who have never been there before. 3 of us ordered the Fish Fry and the other person ordered the Chicken Parmesan. This Chicken Parmesan was horrible....the 2 pieces looked like flat black burnt hockey pucks and the 2 pieces of bread were burnt also. I wish I would have taken a picture! I blame the chef as to how this was cooked and presented, but I also blame the waitress for even serving this plate! How could she even look at it and say it was ok??? Yes, they did remake the chicken for the customer to take home...but this is definitely not the Summit Diner we have been to countless times ! The waitress looked at us like we were aliens. Believe me, I alway compliment the restaurant for its good service. This is the first bad review I have ever written. Owners...take a look at your staff...they represent Summit Diner.
