I imagined hearing children shrieking and playing all over the place. When we pulled up to the house, I was very happy to see that the community of homes is VERY spread out, so the home is pretty secluded. We walked up the stairs to find a very cozy home and guest house. The first night was spent cooking, drinking wine, and hanging out in the hot tub. The kitchen is well-stocked with utensils, so we cooked breakfast and dinner here each day. We were close to the river, so we spend the second day kayaking. The home has a TV/DVD player, so when we were exhausted in the evening, we could relax and watch movies or play some of the games available in the house. Wineries are not too far, so we spent the third day wine tasting. We had a great vacation, and we hope to return next summer!

Its a good location - close to plenty of wineries and places to explore but tucked away in the woods so its quiet and private. The place is stocked with about anything you could need. seriously. First, the house-- The first floor is very open, with a big living area (and sectional sofa) opening to a large dining room that comfortably seated all of us. The kitchen is spacious, and easy for one or two people to cook in. The knives are even sharp! There's a small bedroom on the first floor with a day bed. For some reason, it was the coolest room in the house. Upstairs are three more bedrooms (one with bunk beds!), the master suite, and another full bath. The beds were comfortable, everyone slept like babies, and the master suite has a kickass deck. There'a big back deck nestled in the redwoods with views of the river. Going towards the back yard, there's a nice hottub that we barely used because it was super hot outside. The yard is totally fenced (great for the dogs), and the back yard had fruit trees that will be great for a later guest once the fruit is ripe. The houses's location beside the beach path means you can go from front door to water in under two minutes. We spent a lot of time at the beach, and got to know some of the very nice neighbors. All in all, the best vacation house we've rented yet. Rob was super easy to work with, and I highly recommend.

Each of the Guesthouses is impeccably decorated, cozy, and welcoming. From the beautiful redwood grove at The Trees to the incredible outdoor dining table at The Hills. Each house is uniquely dreamy, nestled in the picturesque town of Occidental. Barbara is truly the most wonderful, kind, and welcoming host. She attended to every single detail to ensure that our wedding day was perfect (even down to wiping off benches after the beautiful morning mist cleared). She is a dear friend and really makes every visit extraordinary. We know we will continue visiting for years to come. While you stay in Occidental, you MUST get food from the Union Hotel. Between visits, my husband and I dream about Garlic Gold pizza, carrot cake, and the best minestrone around. The pizza crust is to die for- fluffy and just the right balance of perfectly browned. The slice of carrot cake is literally larger than my hand and maybe even forearm! Super rich and velvety cream cheese frosting- amazing! We have visited Occidental once during COVID and the Union has an excellent picnic style menu. The food is ordered outside and nicely packaged for take-out or eating at a table in their distanced outdoor area. As someone who has strictly adhered to distancing and other protocols, I felt safe and comfortable! Highest praise for the Occidental Guesthouses and Union Hotel! A must visit for anyone who loves cozy accommodations, excellent food, and the most welcoming environment.

We got instructions on where we were headed and what to expect and we were off. We pulled into our driveway and oh my goodness!!! The house was beautiful!! Huge fireplace, big kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2 bath with washer and dryer. They also have this cool juke box on the wall with all of this awesome music to play and the view is perfect. Tip: they don't have a DVD player and the stations are basic cable so bring a hookup for you laptop to connect to the tv. Besides that its awesome!! Thanks again Barbara!! We will be back!! Oh did I mention that the house is a Frank Llyod Wright house??? Ya... Awesome.

It rained all weekend so we didn't use the pool or hot tub. Our only disappointments were a screw/nail that was sticking up out of the hardwood floor; my sock caught on it a few times, tripping me. And then there were no wires connecting the stereo to the speakers, so we weren't able to have some background music going while we were cooking meals. Oh, and would've loved better cell reception and some wifi too, but it was nice to get away from being connected all the time for one weekend.

Host, Anna, has an eye for detail, which means everything here is aesthetically tasteful and functional. This goes for the interior and extends into the spacious garden area, which is a stone's throw from one of sonoma county's best bike/walking/jogging paths. My gf and I came up from LA, and stayed here for 3 days in late June. It was a blissful getaway...offering the best of what western sonoma county has to offer in terms of comfort, peace and quiet, beautiful countryside, great food (walking distance to the little village of Graton, which has two of the north bay's best restaurants..the Underwood, and the Willowwood Cafe). Casa Ramona is located in wine country, and dozens of tasting rooms are situated within a 20 minute (driving) radius. Some excellent wineries/tasting rooms are within walking distance!! The coast is also a short and spectacular drive away. I can't say enough positive things about this hidden treasure. We'll be back.

Update: The owner of Avalon, Hilary, has contacted me a couple of days ago, expressing sincere concern about our disappointing stay at her B&B back in April 2007. It is a good sign that she is taking reviews and opinions about her business serious, as every competent business owner should. I attribute the somewhat mediocre experience to her absence and I am sure that our experience would have been different if the family would not have been out of town during our visit. I have to echo the two other posters in regards to the rooms and surroundings of the Avalon Bed & Breakfast. The room we stayed in was in impeccable condition, the picturesque surroundings and tranquility we got to enjoy on the patio were perfect, except for the above mentioned problems. That's the sole reason I can't give it 5 stars. However, Hilary has since offered us a free night at her establishment, which is a nice way of trying to remedy our experience. It shows she truly does care about her guests and patrons and we might take her up on her offer.

The suite had its own private enclosed area with a fire pit and a jacuzzi, which made it feel incredibly intimate and relaxing. The bed was hands down the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. I could honestly stay in it all day and would come back just to sleep in that bed again. They provided yummy snacks, there is a full kitchen, and the space itself was very cozy and warm. It felt like the perfect place to fully unwind and enjoy the stay. Everyone at the lodge was extremely friendly and welcoming. The bar is just a few steps down, which was very convenient, and during Christmas the lodge is absolutely beautiful. They had a huge Christmas tree that made the entire place feel magical and festive. I would highly recommend staying here. Winning the raffle introduced us to a place we will absolutely be coming back to.
