Sleepers In Seattle…read more FFF Rating with Better Business Bureau I needed to purchase a new sofa bed for my RV, and so I contacted Sleepers in Seattle (SLEEPERS) because I had previously purchased a Stanton 200 Sofa Bed from them back in 2017. It was a wonderful sofa bed. I was also aware that back then, SLEEPERS had been cited by several newspaper and magazine articles as being an outstanding customer service retailer. I looked at several swatch samples, reviewed price information, and made a phone call to SLEEPERS to begin the purchase process. First off, the website had 2 different prices which were off by about $200 if I remember correctly. Called and talked to a woman who said they were having updates to their website, but that she could honor the lower price. She sent me an online signature form with details, and I signed it without incident. I said to her that I did not need the standard mattress that came with the purchase, and so that specific information was referenced on the form that I signed. She charged me $1959 using my credit card. At the time of my purchase, their website indicated that 6-10 weeks would be needed for the sofa bed to reach me. Because I had done business with them previously and was then pleased with how things went, I waited 6 weeks to contact them in order to request an update as to how much longer I would need to wait before my sofa bed would at least begin the shipment process. I called and spoke with a female who seemed to enjoy talking about how computer savvy she was, and as she was apparently looking into their computer system to check on the status of my order. Her verbage was along the lines of: "Umm, gee, hmm, well, I don't know, umm, let me get back to you on this". She told me I would get an update in a day or two. Three days go by, and I did not get a call back, so I call again. This time, I get some smart ass office clerk who was arrogant, evasive, and clearly not helpful or polite. He hung up on me. The female called me back, we talked for about 10 minutes, and she told me that the manager had called to ask the manufacturer to speed up the process. She said things like, "they needed to order new fabric", "your sofa bed is being processed", "we'll email you and let you know when it is ready", etc. Three or four more days go by, and I get an email from the female stating that the sofa bed should be finished within 10 days. But then it has to be inspected, and that can take another 10 days. Two weeks go by, and nothing, so I send an email, and her response states that the sofa bed was finished, but they didn't know when it would be released. Becoming increasingly disappointed and concerned, I sent an email telling her that 10 weeks had gone by and also giving her another week to start the shipping process; otherwise, I would dispute the charge with my credit card company. The female replies that their website "CLEARLY" indicated that it could take 10 to 14 weeks for fulfillment. Subsequently, I performed an historic search of their website. The search clearly showed that they had changed the 6-10 weeks to 10-14 weeks AFTER I placed the order. So she lied, as she had obviously lied on a few other occasions. However, the ultimate consumer insult occurred a few days later when the female sent me an email saying that they were cancelling my order. So after about 11 weeks of waiting, calling, emailing and being lied to in the face, SLEEPERS IN SEATTLE RUINED THINGS FOR MY WIFE AND ME. Their behavior has obviously degraded significantly because of a lack of competence and customer caring that apparently been supported by owner and management. Stay away from these people. Go elsewhere. They are incompetent, arrogant, lying, deceitful individuals who have no business being in the retail sales industry. They have an F Rating with the Better Business Bureau, and my experience simply adds to the abysmal failure of these people to treat people with respect.

Selling my condo so had to update both kitchen, bath and separate vanity cabinets and countertops…read more I went to all the usual companies for quotes (Sanyuan, GS, A1, Pius etc) and made a crazy spreadsheet comparing them. 1st Ave came in second cheapest (GS was the cheapest). I decided to go with 1st Ave because they were very responsive on the phone and email, and they were able to do the work faster than GS. I also really liked that the people at 1st Ave weren't pushy like at they were at some of the other companies. They came though with all they promised to do - called me when they were on the way to the job site, installed everything so all cabinets and drawers lined up and worked flawlessly, cut the quartz offsite and came back to install countertops, and cleaned up after themselves. I have been recommending them to friends and neighbours, and I would most definitely use them again.

The shop was small, but everything in it was worth looking at vs. shops with too much stuff and only a 10th worth looking at. I ordered a custom-made table (basic but sturdy design, literally just a tabletop on 4 posts) and paid for it in full on Aug 3 2020. The first red flag was unresponsive and slow communication. Here's what I emailed them regarding specs (this will be important later): 08/03/2020: "Can you give me a rough sketch of what the finished product would look like? I want to make sure there's no ambiguity or points of confusion. I included my own sketch attached. Please call me when you have a chance." 08/14/2020: "Hi, I've tried to reach you by phone a few times regarding the desk." The 4+ months that followed can only be described as an excruciatingly slow and painful process as I desperately tried to garner any tidbit of information they were willing to throw in my direction. I can't post the entire thread because of character limits but here's a sample of me emailing them: 09/07/2020: "Hi, any updates?" 09/17/2020: "Hi Patrick, I have not heard from you in several weeks now." 09/23/2020: "Hello Patrick, I would really appreciate an update from you." 10/05/2020: "Can you give me a firm date on when will this be ready? I placed the order back in early August and it has been two months now." 10/23/2020: "I have not received an update in more than two weeks. Can you give me a firm date of delivery or at the very least some sort of timeframe besides "soon"?" 12/08/2020: "When will this be done? When I visited two weeks ago you told me it should be done before Thanksgiving." 12/15/2020: "I'd like the table that I paid for in August please" UR had me visit twice, on Oct 24 and on Nov 11 to see the tabletop in person to talk about the color. In both instances, I insisted on a dark walnut stain. I emphasized the reasons why I requested it, emailed them samples of the color, supplied photographs, and even pointed at samples within UR's shop that matched what I was looking. The staff, for whatever reason, seemed extremely reluctant to apply any stain at all on the tabletop and would give only non-committal responses in the vein of "We'll see what we can do". Eventually, weeks later, they claim the table is ready for delivery and send me a photo where they have already applied a finish without applying a stain. I have no explanation for their behavior but at that point I got fed up with the endless delays and inexplicable stubbornness and decided to walk away and asked for a refund. UR refused and said my only avenue for redress would be small claims court (quote from them: "we will look for the paperwork"). When I pursued that, the owner resorted to juvenile insults, emailing me that I "suck ass" then eventually getting his attorney involved. To their credit, UR *did* soon after fix their error and applied the correct stain. I visited in person and the table looked great! I secured and paid for its delivery myself and spent several hours setting it up at its new location. It was only then that I found out two things: 1. The table was the wrong dimensions, and too short by 10%. 2. The table was not actually flat and curved inward (see picture). Returning the table at that point was the last thing I wanted to do after everything that transpired. UR claimed that I had approved the shorter dimensions but I have no record of that in any of our emails. Instead, what I do have is multiple instances of me trying to talk to them to nail down specifications but having a difficult time getting a response from them (see emails above). I was never given an explanation for why the tabletop surface was deformed but the flaw made the table functionally useless for its intended purpose. I fully understood that the pandemic has thrown many supply chains into chaos. It makes sense that materials and delivery would suffer delays; to be clear I'm not blaming UR for that. But the issue here is that over the course of several months it was extremely difficult to get a hold of them or get any concrete updates, and what I did end up with eventually was seriously deficient on multiple fronts. Even though I eventually did receive a refund (thanks to PayPal), time and money was wasted on delivery costs and unnecessary court filings on my end. I'm sure UR lost a lot of money as well! But that was a result of some very basic errors on their end and I don't understand why they'd let this happen to them. Hence my confusion.
