If I can put NO stars that's what this place would get. I have came here several times usually on a Saturday first thing in the morning I never had problems. That was not the case today on a Thursday at 5pm. The girl doing my pedicure which I was told her name was Lupe cut my toe she kept putting that solution to stop the bleeding I watched her do it for 10 minutes before I spoke up. I told her I don't understand why it's still bleeding for the past 10 minutes even after pouring that solution many times. She didn't say a word just kept holding the cotton ball another tech came to take over and continued to do the same thing and still it would not stop bleeding, at this point not only am I pissed off but I started freaking out I told the tech can you please just put a band aid so I can leave she does that and as she is trying to put the band aid on it's still bleeding. I went to the front desk and asked the girl there what was the name of the tech who did my nails she wrote it down for me and then I asked when will the owner be here? She looks at me and goes the owner? She is right over there. What happened? I explained the situation to her she calls the owner over I tell the owner the story and as I'm talking she is just staring at me I wasn't sure if she spoke English so I looked at the other girl and I go does she understand me? The owner said yes I understand you. I told her what happened and how I didn't even get an apology or anything from that girl and how the cut and service is unacceptable. I said I'm letting you know because she might cut the wrong person one day and they will handle it differently than I. Owner apologized and said she wishes I would have told her as soon as it happened which that to me is some BS because the entire salon was looking my way and knew something was going on and as a owner she should of walked over to see what's going on. When I got home the band aid was all bloody even the adhesive part and now it's sore. I will never go back there again not only because of the cut but the customer service is unprofessional and unacceptable!!! read more

Great new nail salon shop in Ridgewood. I got a gel mani + pedicure + fix, on the night before thanksgiving. (Price: Gel mani + Regular Pedi combo $40, Fix $3) Parking: Plenty of street parking, as well as residential parking if you get lucky. Ambiance: I could tell the store was recently opened. Everything was relatively new and I personally really enjoyed their choice in furniture (waiting area, massage chairs, seats for manicures). But, I did notice that this place smelled stronger than other nail salons I've been to. Nails: There was a wide variety of colors to choose from for both my regular pedi and gel mani. I ended up loving both. I originally wanted a white glitter accent nail like the one I saw on someone else's post on their yelp, but that was only for SNS. However, they were able to accommodate with white polish and small glitter that came out just as cute. Customer Service: Once, I walked in the service was great. The lady immediately asked what I wanted done and had me choose the color I wanted. I waited about 10min for someone to help me. The lady who helped me did not seem to speak fluent English, but she was very nice and paid a lot of attention to my nails and ensuring I liked what she was doing. The pedi and mani both included a scrub and lotion massage, but I was even more surprised/impressed by this gel she used on my heels that felt amazing. The lady who greeted me also offered me complementary wine (they also have sangria). I was super excited to come to this salon bc their instagram looks nice. $25.00 for a set of nails?! I was hype. Now don't get me wrong my nail tech was amazing and super sweet. Once I went up to the receptionist to pay the total was $50. I was confused because online it said 25 but I paid it anyways because I don't like confrontation. Edit 8/1/18 Sadly, I just went to Sumak for the last time. I have gone to Sumak exclusively for nearly a year (even after I moved from Queens to the Bronx) and brought a handful of friends with me during that time. I can't recommend anyone spend their money here any longer and will be back on the hunt for a new salon of respectable quality. A week and a half ago, I went to see Luby for a fresh set and I was decently happy with what I left the salon with. However, by day 8, both pinky nails had fallen off -- and not like I jammed my finger and they snapped off painfully. Both fell off painlessly, in one piece, and both while I was simply washing my hair. The first on day 6. The second on day 8. This is not to mention the six other nails that had already begun to lift. Pretty unacceptable considering I used to be able to keep a set on without needing a fill for up to three weeks consistently when I first started coming here. On day 9, I found unexpected time in my schedule to make the trip to Queens to get the nails fixed. My nails grow fast, so I just opted for a fill and to fix the two nails that had fallen off. I hadn't made an appointment and came on a day Luby wasn't in, but after the nails fell off, I figured maybe I should leave it to chance and not worry about who I got. Big mistake! I didn't ask for the girl's name who worked on my nails because I sure as hell knew I wouldn't be returning after this experience, but she's a medium-build girl in her twenties and wears dark-framed glasses. If you don't take my overarching advice of not going at all, take the advice of avoid this girl at all costs. She did an absolute trash job on the fill and fix. Like, the worst I've ever gotten. She had visible dirt under four of her nails which seriously grossed me out. She was continuously looking around the room while she was working and not paying attention to what she was doing on my nails, and you can tell that she didn't care just by looking at the job she did. The surfaces and edges of my nails are rough. The shape is uneven. She only pushed and trimmed my cuticles on one hand. The acrylic doesn't cover the sides of my nails, nor does it extend to my cuticles neatly as it should. To top it off, the polish application is streaky and uneven, and my cuticles are covered in gel polish -- likely applied over the edge to try to cover up the fact that the acrylic was so lazily and horrendously-applied. I also had to remind her five times to turn on the UV lamps between coats so my nails could dry. That's how distracted she was. At the end, when I went to pay, a girl who I had not seen before cashed me out at the reception desk. Though my service was bad, I always give a minimum 15% tip because I have worked in a tipped industry before. I tipped my nail tech $6 on $34 (gel polish fill + 2 fixes -- just $1 less than just getting a new gel polish full set!). The girl at the counter, in Spanish -- likely assuming I, as a white person, didn't understand her -- yelled across the salon to my nail tech and said, "This girl just chose 'No Tip'. Did she tip you?" My nail tech replied, "Six," and the girl cashing me out shook her head, as if six was an inappropriate amount. At this point, I should have called her on her ignorance for assuming I didn't understand her and calling me "this girl," but I was so blown by the whole situation that I didn't know how to react. I found it highly unprofessional of her and my nail tech to even be talking about -- letalone yelling across the salon about -- what amount in gratuity I chose to leave, and then to be judgmental about the more-than-generous amount I left considering the shoddy job? Nah. She didn't say another word to me and walked away as I stood there waiting for my receipt, without even offering me such receipt. I called her back and told her I needed a copy. She rolled her eyes at me and told me to put my phone number in the credit card terminal. I told her I didn't want to do that because I don't want to just freely put my number into businesses' systems. She told me that she would print me a receipt but I needed to put a number in the terminal. I told her I was putting in a fake number and did so. She then asked if I could check my phone for the receipt. I explained to her a second time, that I put in a fake number because I didn't want the business to have my number or text me the receipt, and that I needed a printed receipt so I can expense it. Only then did she finally comply with giving me the printed receipt that I originally requested. All of the attitude and hassle was entirely unnecessary and surely sealed the deal that I will not be returning to this establishment, as its quality and service have gone into the ground in the year Sumak has been open. There is a brand new (I think) salon across the street and I really look forward to trying it out this upcoming week or so to correct the terrible job Sumak did these past two visits. read more

I saw this new spot in my neighborhood and I thought I would give it a try. I was so impressed and surprised by the quality of service! I used to go to a place across the street from there and this is a HUGE step up. They treated me like gold, served free wine and the service was perfect. Prices are reasonable and comparable to businesses around. I loved the vibe in the salon. It had a nice boutique feel. The back of the salon has some open empty space but they just opened so I didn't think much of that. They have turned me into a returning customer for sure!! My experience with this establishment was so great I felt compelled to add them to Yelp and jot down a review. On my way out to run errands, I noticed that after much renovation, they were finally open for business. It's a Hispanic run business so, as a Hispanic myself, I felt the need to support my community. My nail technician, Toa, was both professional, courteous and knowledgeable about the products she used. I opted for the SNS nail treatment as it doesn't need any harmful UV technology or fan to dry. My nails were dry in 5 minutes naturally. The prices are pretty reasonable as nail salons go and I won an additional 20% off my price. My third and final time coming to this salon..I've been getting fill ins and new acrylic sets for nearly 13 years now (I'm 26) and NEVER spent more than $25 (including a decent tip!) On fill ins. $60 for FILL INS at Sumak Nails. Yes you read that correctly. I'm not one of those girls who gets "razzle-dazzle" Cardi B -looking type nails but if I want a small design I will use nail polish. They have the nerve to charge me five dollars per nail to draw 3 small hearts in the SAME color that I used on my other nails. No diamonds no crystals no nothing. I understand policies and what not but when my good friend gets the same exact set of nails that I get and gets charged more because her nails are half a centimeter longer than mine and the lady kept messing up on the design that's where I have a problem. When you politely address the problem the first time and they start slamming shit around that's where I draw the line. I question their pricing, their answers were sloppy and inconsistent. This is the salon that is known for their unique designs that are hand created and I'm over here asking for a pair of lips and hearts for Valentine's Day and Suzy said she couldn't do it. What brought me to the salon in the first place was their unique and creative designs that are much more complex than a simple pair of lips and hearts. She didn't even attempt it on paper! she looked at the picture and said no. Absolute poor work ethic. In my 13 years of getting my nails done this is the first time I walked out without giving a tip. Take that extra $20 that you charged me for hearts and give it to the lady that did them for me. I will NEVER be coming back to this salon ever again because not only are your workers rude and have a lot of attitude-when i question the lack of service, You start slamming stuff around out of frustration and it's only 10 o'clock in the morning.
