(scroll for info at the end of my original review.) ------- ORIGINAL REVIEW: Yeahhhh.. this place isn't it lol. For context I'm 25F, just moved into the area. This happened a few weeks ago but it just popped into my head recently. Hole in the wall massage/spa places are so hit or miss. Honestly I accidentally booked through them for a 60min back massage thinking it was another place that I actually liked that is also in ridgewood (it was "Mosa Spa"; you can book on their website so you know exactly what you're paying for before hand.) During the massage the woman asked me multiple times if I wanted soft or heavier pressure, and each time I said soft very loud and clear, since my head was face down for the massage. Fast forward to the middle of the massage and she's standing on my back. Like actually standing. And it wasn't brief. I know this is something people do in general, like at home, but it seemed extremely unprofessional since she didn't ask first before doing it, and I had already said "soft pressure" not "please put your whole body weight on me in one place." I also know that 60min massages usually involve flipping around to have the front part (arms, legs, head) massaged about halfway through. She must have mistimed and I flipped over and then 10 minutes later her timer went off and the massage promptly ended. When I was filling out the receipt for the tip, the man at the counter pointed at the dotted line and said "Tip." (not as question. also extremely rich considering the quality of the experience.) I never write reviews because I am so lazy; I guess this is where my laziness gets me so I can't complain (too much) - but I can warn: If you have a small budget for pampering yourself, either go to another massage place like Mosa with similar prices, or bite the bullet and splurge on an actual spa/bathhouse (NYC & brooklyn have plenty.) Or get a facial at the Glowbar locations for 30min under $100. Or get your nails done! I felt super disappointed because I don't have a lot of money for this kind of stuff, and blew it on a very uncomfortable experience. And weirdly enough they posted a second 5 star review saying they loved it and to tip the masseuse $1 per hour (so like $30-60 extra) and that their "old review" was an assumption and they shouldn't have posted it. I clicked on the account of the second reviewer and they're two different people under the name Daniel I. Don't be discouraged by the small entrance on the street. You climb these stairs and arrive at a clean and pleasant reception area. I did not have an appointment but was taken in right away at 4pm for a 90 minute massage. Peter was my therapist. I was concerned at first because he did not ask me what kind of pressure I preferred but I didn't have to worry. The pressure was just right. He even used hot stones toward the end. As a devotee of the Flushing / Chinatown massage game, I never thought Ridgewood would be a place where I'd get a rubdown. Had it not been a raging storm, problems with the MTA, and an insane surge pricing with Lyft / Uber, I would have never found Spa Heaven. I had some knots and some time, figured it was worth my while to kill both. What I thought was going to be a small'ish place turned out to be a lot larger than I thought. There are levels to this place with multiple rooms and a fairly robust staff of people who specialize in feet / back massages. My back needed some work, so I opted for someone who could walk on my back. The manager assigned a short Chinese woman who looked like she could crack a few skulls, this might be good. My room seemed private with its own door, along with good ventilation and walls that went all the way up to the ceiling. If that sounds silly, I've seen far too many places that are basically massage cubicles: walls that never reach the ceiling, terrible ventilation, and a curtain for a door. So far, we were off to a good start. However, my masseuse was a bit weaksauce with the effort. During the backwalk, I was expecting some bones to crack and feel some heavy steps but it was all lackluster. To make matters worse, once she was done with the back walking, she slathered a bunch of oil all over my back to point where it was dripping off my limbs. I complained and she wiped most of it off but continued with a half hearted massage. At $45 for the hour, the price wasn't too crazy but certainly more expensive than what I'm used to paying. They also take credit card here, which I suppose is a big plus for others not willing to rock the dollar bills. I know that one masseuse doesn't determine everything about a massage spot, so I'd be willing to come back to give someone else a shot. read more

Showed up for my appointment and they told me I would still have to wait 30 min My masseuse was TEXTING during my massage... she didn't even have the decency to turn off her ringer. Made me very uncomfortable to have her on her phone while my back and butt were exposed And to top it off, she left the room after my time was up and accidentally took my phone. Super detail oriented, always adding new techniques, and really knows all of the muscles that need the extra attention and adds more technical work. She's kind, clean and very strong. I didn't have an issue with the lady that message me. I had to leave right away because I was about to snap on the guy that was making my woman feel very uncomfortable. She kept telling him to stop & continued to message. He kept groaning & did not ask for permission unlike how the lady that message me ask me politely to do so. Our first experience was not bad. But in my opinion he should be let go. He's the short skinny guy with the glasses. My lady speaking. "When I said stop he should have automatically stopped immediately and not continued to keep going." If I was able to rate him personally I'll give him a 1 star & I know it's not fair for the people that work there. Love love this place. Found them through class pass, I got an hour full body massage and it was amazing. When you think it's over it's not. The first time I was serviced by Nina, she was AMAZING !!! However when I rescheduled an appointment she wasn't there anymore. Andy serviced me and he did well. At the end of the massage they give you hot stone and oh my it's amazing. Used to be my favorite spot for massages but on THREE separate occasions, I had a man enter the room without permission / knocking and casually start chatting with the masseuse. I let it go the first two times bc I liked their work, and the third time I immediately asked the man to leave and his response was "well I'm not *inside* the room" (he was at the door and it was open and I lying with my back bare). And then they messed up with my cash -- gave me $50 less in change and when I brought it up, they made me wait 20 mins to go through their security camera to see if I were lying or not. Great massage place. The entrance is small a just a doorway with stairs that lead upstairs. The check in desk is right at the top of the stairs. I was there for the couples massage which also includes a free hot stone massage. We had a choice of separate or shared room. We went with a shared room. Our room was another floor up. They looked like they had plenty of rooms there. They give you a few minutes to get ready before they come in. There was some hooks on the wall to hang your clothes. The tables have holes for your face when you lay down. The massage itself was really good. One of the better ones I've had. I will definitely be back. Parking is street metered parking so depending on when you go. It is a 2 hour limit which is nice for an hour massage. read more

This place is advertised on Groupon ...DO NOT GET THE GROUPON!!! We arrived for a couples massage and made a reservation at 4pm. There was no one at the front desk until a couple minutes later. I should of ran when we walked in and it smelled like moth balls. Do not let the front decor fool you! They asked us to wait in the waiting area for 20 minutes which had no lights...you think its to create an ambience? Nope! it's to hide the mess and the chairs which are falling apart. We waited and waited 30 minutes then 35 and no one came to get us. We saw employees walk back and forth drinking water and lounging around. We decided to leave! I arrived as a walk-in , a guy came out to front desk named Jack. He welcomed me and told me appointments are preferred but they could fit me. My massage was great! My back was in an awful state and listened to my concerns and worked all my knots out! Very very professional. I would highly recommend a massage here. The room was very clean. I had a massage therapist who massaged my inner thigh next to my crotch for too long and wouldn't stop going back to do it. I would suggest to massage my shoulders instead, then he would go back to my crotch and massage it for a while. I was in shock the whole time and too nervous and uncomfortable to say anything. I would also ask him to massage my feet and he just did my legs for 5 minutes then back again to my crotch. I did not know this place was that type of establishment and if not, this employee should be fired bc I am sure I am not the only one he's doing this to. Ok, so this is an updated updated review, i went back to Spa Heaven today because i have been missing the full body massage that i get from a masseuse named Lucky. I have received at least 150 full body massagges at Spa Heaven and i would say at least 125 have been from Lucky and i have been getting a full body massage every 2 weeks for the past 11 or so years and Lucky is the BEST. I want to also add that in my last review i made a claim that is not 100% verifiable so i asssumed and i shouldnt of done it. So if you are looking for the best full body massage of your life go here to see LUCKY. BTW, i tip Lucky what she deserves which is $1 a minute or at minimum 50 cents whic = $30 to $60 tip for 1 hour. This will benefit your health and well being for days!!! read more

My only concern about this place is PRIVACY I see someone else comment about the doors are being left open I come here often but the last few times they leave the door open, I was getting a massage and I can see people walking in the hallway through the door opening.. I want my PRIVACY when getting a massage.. please do something about the open doors maybe asks the customers if they like it open or closed. read more

I visited Spa Heaven for a 60 minute couple's massage with my partner. It is unfortunate that I have to leave such a poor review, as our masseuses were very professional and did a great job. However, things took a turn when we went to pay. I tipped 20% on the $90 bill, but was told by the receptionist that I was required to tip $10 for each masseuse. I paid the difference without hesitation but I left feeling very irritated. First, it is tacky, uncomfortable, and bad business practice to cause such a scene over an extra $2. As an attorney, I should add that it is also illegal in the state of New York to demand a tip. I do understand the valid frustration over cheap customers and poor tippers. If management truly wants their employees to be tipped well, I suggest adding the specified amount to the bill as a mandatory service charge and avoid awkward encounters between staff and customers. read more

Came here with my parents for a single and couple's massage, and all 3 of us enjoyed our massages. Easy to set up an appointment and I called beforehand to reconfirm. I was also running a few mins behind due to traffic, and they were very understanding and accommodating. The place itself is on the 2nd and 3rd floor, beside burger king. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and clean it was. It is simple and yet, spacious. There is soft, soothing music playing in the rooms so you don't hear much outside noises. Receptionist is nice too. She honored the Groupon price, which I thought was really nice and saved me a pretty buck. If you are using Groupon, you can just show your voucher on your phone. Definitely call and ask if they will honor Groupon prices. If you pay by CC, they charge a sales tax of $4 (not sure why) so cash is the way to go. Mandatory $10 tip (which is reasonable, in my case) and the masseuse/therapist wait by the reception for it. A little weird but not unheard of. As for the massage itself, I can only speak of my masseuse/therapist, Eddie. He was amazing! He really worked out (or tried to) my knots with the right pressure and stretched me out well. I specified that I wanted deep tissue only but I got swedish/deep tissue/hot stones package, which I ended up enjoying though I wanted just deep tissue. It started with a massage over a towel which was different but good. Then a massage with lotion/oil, followed by the hot stone/towels, before finishing off with a light head massage, which was a pleasant surprise! Eddie honored the whole 60mins for my massage! My parents got 2 women for their couple's massage and they said it was good aka nobody walked on nobody's back. If I have any complains, it would be that I did not particularly like the smell of the lotion/oil used. It lingered way after I took a shower too. A fragrance free lotion/oil would have been so much better. Additionally, the room was a little cold but Eddie asked me numerous times if the room temperature was fine, so that is on me. Let me start by saying I'm shocked that there are bad reviews on this place.... I just had a 60 minute deep tissue massage today & it was amazing!!! Leo was my masseuse and he was extremely professional. He made me feel very comfortable and the massage was beyond excellent! He really listened to me when I told him my lower back was my biggest issue. The place is very well kept, very clean and private rooms. Pricing is also really great. Also they have a Groupon, they charge you $5 for tax if you buy from Groupon and there is a $10 tip minimum, which I didn't mind. I was very impressed and will be back!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

The absolute worst massage I've ever gotten. The only thing I probably liked about this place was the ambiance First off I was never even asked which massage package I wanted. I purchased a 1hour massage by one of the guys, and for the full hour he only massaged my back, spent maybe 5-8min in total on my glutes and hamstrings which were really tight and my ankles and feet. Im normally a go with the flow dude but I was so disappointed. Towards the end of the massage after the alarm went off he rushed out so fast I didnt even know what to think. This service was purchased on Groupon, after purchasing this I called to make an appointment. The receptionist I spoke to told me I cannot make an appointment during the weekend if it's with a Groupon, they rather take clients that's paying cash or credit. I understand business was bad for the last year or so but if this was a thing maybe they could of mentioned that on their Groupon details and not waste people time. That was very unprofessional of them to even mention that, that's no way to run a business. Now if they don't get any services for the day I was booking now they making zero money. Right out of the gate info: 10% surcharge on credit cards, and a sign on the desk that the minimum tip for a massage is $10. Current prices: Foot Reflexology $35, Body Work $40, Couples Body Work (which is two therapists, two beds, same room) $75. We thought we had made reservations for the foot massages, so imagine our surprise when we ended up on massage tables in the couples room! However, we were going to roll with the flow, and we realized that we hadn't explained clearly on the phone when we confirmed massages. The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, the towels were fresh and clean, the instrumental music was relaxing and familiar, and the place was very nice. The massage rooms were up another set of stairs from the waiting room and check-in desk. The ladies came in with their equipment, including a kitchen timer. I had Hannah and my son had Mimi. Mimi was quite responsive to his requests a couple of times to change the pressure, and he enjoyed the experience overall with her. I LOVED my experience with Hannah. We started face down, and most of the massage took place with towels in place to cover my hair and face. Rubbing my head, for example, was through the towel, which was nice since I didn't end up with oil all over my scalp. I will tell you that Hannah worked my body hard, using her own body to add pressure and weight to my sore spots. The highlight was the rubdown with the hot stones and hot oil. She also spent a lot of time working my hips, lower back, and rear end, all of which needed the attention! I felt that she was finding those knots and working them out. I am planning to go back again to try the foot reflexology, since I felt that our therapists worked out everything EXCEPT our feet! There was a strong smell of broccoli or something cooking, and I found that somewhat distracting. However, I will have to go back and see if that was just a one-time thing or an ongoing issue. My husband didn't have quite a pleasant time there. First when he arrives, he asks for a massage and asks for the price which no one answered his question. The lady who approached him, ignores his question and continues to ask him if he prefers a male or female, he chooses the male. The person never asked him if he wanted 1/2 hour or an hour worth of massage. My husband at some point is telling him to go soft because it's too hard but the guy seems to not understand. When massage is done after an hour, my husband is told he has to pay $80, in his surprise the website says otherwise. When he tips the person, the person asks him what is that, like if he wanted more. My husband felt bad and gave him more and the guy continued to look at him and question him, my husband at that point got upset and asked him if he wanted all his money because in reality tip is tip and it's not mandatory. I have been going to Spa Heaven for 90 minute whole body massages, including feet for more than 5 years. I was fortunate to utilize female & male massues. Winnie, Cindy, Jack, Andy, to name a few. After trying all of them, I selected Andy because I need DEEP TISSUE MASSAGES and I need CONSISTENCY. Andy is the BEST DEEP TISSUE MASSEUSE. He has NEVER done anything that I do not want. Since I know there's a LANGUAGE barrier, I have COMMUNICATED in ONE WORD PHRASES to EXPLAIN the TYPE of massages needed when I took MY FAMILY MEMBERS there . All of my FAMILY & FRIENDS have continued to return for their MASSAGES as needed. For example: SOFT, MEDIUM, HARD. Also, some of the masseuses use their cell phones (translation availability ) to communicate with the clients. I have NEVER been disrespected, nor has ANYONE been unprofessional in all of my 5 plus years. If you are interested in an affordable, DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE, I recommend Andy.
