I've eaten from Sumac about 10 times and can say that 9 of ten were absolutely delicious. The food always taste and looks fresh, the prices aren't too bad and the service is good. I usually order take out and the presentation is as if you eat there. I always order the falafels which are really good and the kofta sandwich is amazing! The mezza and mixed meat platters are great for sharing. If you're curious the 1 time that I wouldn't rank it high was due to undercooked beef. read more

10/20/13 is my first time at this place. Food is actually pretty good, seasoned well and presented well like most restaurants. HOWEVER, the check is where trouble lies. Nothing is specific on the check, only prices of the items you ordered, you kind of have to guess what the charges are. We ordered an appetizer, and two entrees, guesses are we would have 3 items from that little piece of paper so called check. But after going over everything I noticed his meal was over charged by an dollar as well as an extra item for $6.80. Since my boyfriend was paying he said it may be the extra lamb chop he wanted with his meal, I let the topic go, we paid and left. But as we were getting ice cream next door I said to my boyfriend it's too much for just one extra lamb chop, I decided to go back and ask. Just to find out what exactly did we paid for that $6.80. Long story short, I found out that $6.80 was service charge. WHAT! Service charge for TWO people?!?!?! I understand if we had more than 8 people gratuity is added onto the bill. Or even 6 people for some restaurants, I understand! But for two people?! That's outrageous in my opinion. Not only we left $7 tips, we paid service charge as well aka tips in case people are cheap. Food was tasteless. Portions small. Server rude to make everything worse. Salad was chopped iceberg only $8. Ever had shawarma without hot sauce white sauce? No right.. well they served no dips. No pita on shawarma platter? Server curtly replied platters NEVER come with pita. Last but not the least, false charge of $2 on platter that differed from actual price on menu, subtle ways to steal from customers, I picked it up and she 'fixed the mistake' . So disappointed! The great reviews really let me down here..portions were small and meat was way over cooked despite asking for medium. The rice was ok, they served some sort of tzatziki sauce that made the meatore palatable. The tabboule salad had too much bulgur in it and barely any parsley, the lemony taste was overpowering. Our waitress, who was also the cashier and doing pickup orders, was completely inattentive and kept playing on her phone. Since I tried Sumac, I haven't bothered with any other Mediterranean restaurant. The grape leaves are fantastic and I can honestly say that I've never had better falaffel. My favorite order is the Mixed Veggie sandwhich with an order of falaffel. It fills you up, but doesn't leave you feeling greasy like those other places do. read more

I went into this restaurant last night for take out. The girl at the register who took the order was initially unfriendly towards me, despite my effort to be so towards her. While I was waiting for my order, on two separate occasions I heard her talking to the kitchen staff and taking the Christian god's name in vain, essentially saying it as a curse. This was embarrassing for me to listen to. I should have walked out then. Despite her sense of hostility I got my food. I smelled great in my car on the way home. Upon eating it, though not gone bad or rancid, it was obviously stale. The meat was dry, the rice over cooked and starchy like it have been sitting in a pot for hours and the white sauce was not yogurt based but rather mayonnaise and something. After apologizing the owner came back and not only allowed us to keep the food, her returned every penny.
