I ordered a chicken shawarma plate and sumac fries the other off of seamless. The portions were utterly disappointing, honestly the only thing separating the shawarma plate from being just a tiny portion of a chicken over rice plate from a halal cart was the superiority in quality of the meat. At $11 there's no other way to put it: I was really upset. The sumac fries were really tasty for the most part but the toppings only covered the top part of the fries, so after a few bites, you were left with soggy, cold fries that were obviously made frozen from a bag. Save yourself some time and money and just head to a halal cart somewhere on the street. read more

When Sumac first open on SI, the food was excellent. Then the owner changed and the food/service became terrible. I never went back there until recently, because the place I wanted to go was closed. I thought to myself, lets give it a try, maybe they improved over the years. Well, let me tell you: WHAT A LET DOWN! The service is still crap, and the food is still just mediocre. Sumac has the best shawermas and stuffed grape leaves I've had in NYC and I have tried many places. I only wish they were closer to Brooklyn. I highly recommend the lamb Shawerma. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu. read more

I came across this restaurant by luck. I actually was planning on eating next door until i discovered Sumac right next door. Always in a mood for Shawarma. I decided to try their food out. I ordered myself a beef shawarma sandwich and a chicken shawarma sandwich for my wife.We enjoyed the food. It was very good. Ordered dinner from here tonight. Everything was really fresh and delicious. I had a chicken pea salad, foul (a tomato and bean dish) and the vegetable salad. All pretty tasty and fresh for delivery. My husband had the beef kabob over ride and also really enjoyed it. The only negative is the $5 delivery free. Also just realized the menu says my salad should have come with hummus and tzatziki which it didn't. Otherwise the food was really tasty. I've been here a few times and the food is always fresh. Small place but it's not crowded so I've never had to wait for a table. On more than one occasion the waitress messed up our order the same way--when my boyfriend ordered "fries" she heard "rice". Either way, both the fries and the rice are tasty. read more

My roommates and I ordered from this restaurant through Seamless, and we will definitely not be ordering from there again. I wanted to order fries and Mediterranean pickles as sides for 2 gyros but misunderstood that wasn't possible without being charged extra.. so the guy called me and told me, and said they come with salad, so I said that was fine. What he DIDN'T tell me (until I called after getting the food to complain) was that he apparently meant the salad (aka lettuce) comes ON the gyro. That's not a fucking salad. Also, we ordered one vegetable soup and one lentil, and got two lentil soups (which were relatively bland and overcooked -- the lentils were nothing more than mush at the bottom of the container). The rice that came with 2 of our meals was bland and tasteless, the chicken shish kebab didn't include any vegetables and was also bland, the rice in the stuffed grape leaves was overcooked and mushy, the "salad" that came with my meal was just shredded, wilted iceberg with small bits of cheap, unripe tomato and no dressing, and the tzatziki was blended (tzatziki should never be blended) and didn't taste very good at all -- unlike any tzatziki I've ever had. Overall, the meal was crap and I wish I'd never ordered from there. read more

Horrible! NEVER AGAIN!! The people on the phone are clueless and rude and try to deny you discounts they have posted on their own website. They charge $5 for delivery plus tax, plus you have to tip the driver! So add $10+ to your bill right off, for me it was an extra $15.00 in taxes and fees.
