Though not the highest quality fresh fish in the Nashville area, it is a great value for a casual and yummy sushi dinner! I came here on a quiet weeknight after running errands with my partner nearby. We were seated immediately by the bubbly host and our server was attentive. The lighting is low and the hanging pendants above the bar are all illuminated in different hues, setting the vibe. I started with the sparkling sake, which was tasty but a little sweet for my palate. We ordered 3 types of nigiri: tuna, red snapper, and salmon. The salmon was definitely the freshest and most enjoyable. We also ordered an order of gyoza which was savory, crispy and steamed to perfection. My preferred bites of the night came from the rolls we ordered. The Brentwood roll was my favorite with its unexpected sweet "chef's sauce" which compliments the spicy tuna and special crunch from the tempura flakes. Suki Sushi was the choice of dinner with my friends. It is on one of their top choices of places for dinner. Upon entering, it's a very hip place with a good vibe. My friends like their hibachi choices. I opted for their sushi and sashimi dinner combo. Although I wish the roll that was included was more like a fancier roll including some cucumber and stuff like spicy tuna, the tuna choice was nonetheless delicious. All of the sashimi selections were very tasty with a lot of freshness. My friends enjoyed their hibachi choices as well. The staff were very friendly and it was a great dinner choice. While not my favorite sushi restaurant in Nashville, Suki Sushi was a lovely place to go for dinner. As someone who is allergic to avocados (gasp! I know) getting sushi can be a little hard. The sashimi deluxe version as yummy and a great choice for dinner. We also got the shrimp gyoza which were also great. The restaurant itself is nice. Parking can be a little hard since they do not have their own lot, but we got lucky with a spot right out front. read more

Buyer Beware: Room for Improvement I recently ordered two rolls: one priced at $14 and the other, the "Out of Control Roll," at $20. Unfortunately, the latter fell short of expectations. The roll was advertised as having avocado and eel on top, but only two pieces had eel, and only two had avocado. The rest of the roll was overwhelmingly filled and topped with imitation crab, which was not what I anticipated based on the description. When a roll is described as having specific ingredients, I expect those ingredients to be present consistently throughout. While I've been a loyal customer for some time, this experience was disappointing since I had to drive to pick it up and was a total misrepresentation for the price that was paid. We did carry out last weekend. The sushi was good, although not outstanding. I want my sushi to be extra fresh. While this was fresh, it could have tasted a tad fresher. The ginger salad was great! Loved the ginger dressing. We will definitely eat there again, if only because there are so few restaurants in this area with really, fresh sushi. read more

I live in Nashville, so when I had to do a trip to the nearest REI I was forced to come to Brentwood. Of course I got done with my shopping at the peak of rush hour, so I figured why not stop for food. Luckily Suki Sushi was right across the street! So I pop on over with my boyfriend. To my surprise they had a great hibachi section on the menu with vast combination options. We got the scallop and lobster tail hibachi, a Volcano roll, and the Sashimi Don package (if you love sashimi this is a banger deal! $28 for 14 pieces), a miso soup and a salad. Add in the large hot Sake and our bill was (before tip) $100! Wow!! The service was great, food timely, we were in a bit of a time frame with wanting to get home at a reasonable time and just missing rush hour, and everything fell into place perfectly. I do like the interior as well, it reminds of most the sushi restaurants I grew up going to in Houston (commercial, modern, yet inviting). I have eaten and lived in some of the best locations in the world for seafood, and for being around Nashville I was totally impressed. It is really really hard to find good quality seafood anywhere around here, I will absolutely be stopping back next time I am around. Sorry I didn't get any photos. My mistake. Came here on a Wednesday night around 7. The entire place was packed but I managed to find a seat at the bar. Even though they were slammed, the staffed seemed to be working together and I was taken care of the entire time. I ordered a combo of the chef selection of Nigiri, Sashimi and a shrimp roll. It came with a ginger salad. The fish was very fresh and I enjoyed every piece equally because of that. Usually I don't care for the white fish but everything was great! I've had lunch at Suki about a half dozen times; they have a fabulous lunch special. 2 rolls, miso soup and salad for about $10. Last night, however, we were craving a "boat" .. and Suki delivered. The rolls were fresh, large, and the fish to rice ration was amazing. Unlike many middle TN sushi joints that make rolls that are about 50% rice, at Suki the rolls are 80% filling and just enough rice to wrap. The maguro nigiri was perfect; sweet tuna with perfectly seasoned rice. We followed that with a spicy yellowtail and scallion roll, a Philadelphia roll (I love smoked salmon sushi), an eel and avocado roll, and a special "Spice GIrl" roll. Along with our sushi, we enjoyed bottomless cups of hot green tea, and a carafe of hot sake (perfect for the cold, rainy night). Service was fast, friendly and efficient. The prices were spot on for fish of this quality. Parking was easy and free. I would posit that this is some of the best sushi in Middle Tennessee, and the prices are a steal. The food and service have always been good or slightly above average. Aside from last night's experience, I would have rated them higher in a review. The remainder of this review is based solely on last night and, really, only the last 60 seconds of my meal. Suki is a hybrid Asian restaurant - part sushi bar, part hibachi restaurant. They don't cook in front of you like a chop-chop place but it's basically the same type of fare. I'm about as boring and basic as they come and get the vegetable stir fry version of hibachi (the vegetable mix with carrot slices, mushrooms, baby corn, onions, broccoli) but with a twist. The twist is simple: I only want broccoli. With these dinners, you get your choice of rice (white, brown or fried) and either salad or miso soup. The "vegetable delight" is $16. A bit pricey for what it is but whatever. It comes with yum-yum sauce which almost makes it worth the price of admission. (IYKYK) For cost comparison, the hibachi dinners with meat are about $24. They bring my meal out and it is perfect. Fried rice in a bowl by itself. A separate dish with just broccoli, perfectly cooked, tender yet still with a slight crisp to it, sitting in just a tiny pool of teriyaki sauce. Then the check comes. $16 + $2 substitution = $18. Another waitress or perhaps manager walks by and sees me looking quizzically at the check and the menu and stop to ask if everything is OK. I point out the discrepancy. She studies the check and then the menu. Then she asked, "did you get a substitution?" I said, "well, I got the vegetable delight but asked for just broccoli instead of all of the vegetables." "Oh, well, that's why. Yes, you substitute so extra charge." "That makes no sense," I say. "It was the same amount of food. Maybe less." "Well, that is what it was." "I don't understand...I didn't get more food or get anything extra." "Right." And then she walked away. And so did I (after I paid) for the last time. Suki's new name? Sucky. read more

While visiting the area, we decided to try this place. Although this restaurant is nicely laid out and decorated in pleasant contemporary lighting and artwork, in my opinion, it is overpriced, and the taste and quality of the food is severely lacking. Maybe I'm spoiled by my favorites in my hometown, but I was surprised that others had rated this very highly, and especially in upscale Brentwood. We both had the green salad, which was confirmed to be ginger salad, but was anything but green, and the saddest "salad" I think I've ever had. It consisted of torn white pieces of iceberg lettuce, two slices of cucumber without skin, and "ginger dressing", which was something creamy in texture, but I would never equate to "ginger" in any way. Likewise, the miso soup was a bit flavorful, but contained scant pieces of seaweed, scallion and the tiniest cubes of tofu I've ever seen. My husband had the chicken fried rice which was virtually tasteless; it contained no vegetables, (the usual carrots, peas, bean sprouts, etc.), and was served with something I would liken to thousand island dressing as a dipping sauce(?). I had the tempura vegetables, which consisted of a nice selection of sweet potato, asparagus, mushroom, onion, and broccoli. The tempura coating was more like a thin beer batter, but still crispy, and the typical sweet dipping sauce was not quite as I expected, but still fairly good. I also had two orders of sashimi salmon and tamago (Japanese sweet omelette). Although they were probably the best part of my meal, the pieces were terribly small for the price. That said, the ONLY reason I would possibly give a 3 star rating is because our server, Lydia, was exceptional; and we were her very first customers as a server. She was knowledgeable, articulate, and demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills; unlike a few others who didn't seem to acknowledge anyone at the door, or the tables. The second roll was a suki roll, this roll had very little flavor and was pretty bland, almost could be described as watery tasting. Very disappointing, especially for the price. Both rolls were on the smaller side and a bit expensive. Next we got the chicken katsu. The katsu wasn't too fried and had a good katsu sauce. I ordered the hibachi lunch which included your choice of miso soup or salad. I chose the salad which was your standard salad you would expect when ordering hibachi. I wanted both chicken and steak for my hibachi lunch. I asked for Medium but my steak came out well-done which is the main reason I cannot give this restaurant 5 stars. I will say that the steak was still tender and juicy, which a lot of places can not get right at a well-done temperature. The chicken had a nice sauce on it and the vegetables and rice were tasty. I discovered Suki after my mother's birthday plans went awry and we needed to regroup fast and find some good Japanese/Sushi in the area. Suki totally came through! We've only gotten take out, but every time the food is super hot and fresh, even by the time you get it home. They have great lunch specials, but the most pleasant surprise was the portion sizes of dinner. I ordered the chicken katsu and damn, it was like at least 2 meals worth for me. This used to be a decent Japanese sushi place but now it is taken over by new owners or management and became overpriced Chinese restaurant that pretends to be a Japanese sushi place. Sushi rice is over cooked, sizes reduced, "Japanese" soup tastes like hot-and-sour from any Chinese restaurant. Cooks are Chinese and this place even smells like Chinese restaurant. If you want Japanese sushi, this isn't the place but if you don't mind overpaying for Chinese tasting food, well this place is it. read more
