Foot massage
Bruce C.

After walking 18 miles in two days, we wanted a foot massage. Several parlors were already booked. As we headed back to the hotel, we came across Suki Day Spa. For $29 for a 30 minute foot massage, we decided to chance it. We were escorted upstairs to a room with two overstuffed chairs. Unfortunately, my chair was broken and would not stay upright. The massage was adequate and slightly rejuvenating. When it came time to pay, the lady behind the desk did not know how to use a credit card machine for payment.

Pedicure was fabulous. Lemon salt scrub and fresh aloe moisturizer.

I treated myself to a day spa with a Swedish massage, pedicure, and gel manicure. The massage offered warm oils and the perfect pressure. The pedicure included callus removal, lemon salt scrub, and a fresh aloe rub for moisturizing before my toes got pretty. The manicure was simple so it would have been nice to add a little arm massage after the gel was applied to give it a nice finishing touch. That is the only reason I dropped the score a little bit. Susan was nice, conversational and provided excellent service.

I wish I could do zero stars. They're marketing something that doesn't exist. Shame on Marriott for including them on their app. Sheets were stained. Building was in need of a major renovation. Staff was lovely, I felt bad leaving. The Yelp reviews have got to be bogus. This place was the only place I've ever left after changing. No way I could put my head on the table.

Last night San Diego shut down for the second time due to COVID-19. I wasn't aware of it till about 6:30pm and wasn't going to be able to make any appointment till about 9. Since I just moved here I don't have a nail person yet so I was looking at open late nail salons (which there wasn't many). Luckily this place squeezed me in for a last min gel nail at 10pm. Susan was so nice and accommodating. My nails looks great and hopefully I can go the 3 weeks till they can open back up. Their place was clean and relaxing with comfy chairs and soft music. Parking was easy but it might of just been because everything was shut down.

Hot towel after massage.

Incredible massage by Halle, professional and good conversation. Too bad I don't live in this area, I was just there for a couple months.

The person making the appointment spent a great deal of time with me trying to figure out which one of the services would work best given the time of day and who was available. She may be worth more than what she is getting paid. In any event, this was a good experience and by the time I left, all effects of the too much caffeine had been vanquished. I was genuinely sorry I didn't have time to schedule another visit.

I believed the new owners were using the extra funds to upgrade the spa, buy new equipment and pay employees better, at least according to their emails. Sadly, there's been a rapid decline in the business. The spa now looks dingy and neglected, and there's a foul odor throughout. The quality of facial and massage services dropped so much due to the constant turnover that I had to stop coming altogether. I had been seeing Chelsea Bowman and the master facialist Ami Sheneman for years. Both left, and no one contacted me to let me know I wouldn't be seeing them for my next appointment. I only found out when I showed up and discovered I'd be seeing someone else. The new girl Kendall, bless her heart--she tried her best, but it just wasn't the same. On top of it when I asked the girls at the desk where Chelsea and Ami went, each time they looked scared and uncomfortable answering. For anyone wondering where Ami went: I found her! She's now at Pier to Point down the street at the other end of Voltaire. I've already been there and signed up for multiple memberships. I highly recommend you do the same. It's such a shame about this spa since it's been part of the community for so long. Edit in response to the owner's comment: Thank you for your response. I want to clarify that my review was written in good faith based solely on my personal experience as a long-time client of your spa. I did not create my account with any intention of coordinating negative reviews or promoting a competitor. I have never had a Yelp account prior to this, which is why it is new. I've also never left a Google review prior to this either. My intention was to share my honest disappointment about the recent changes and lack of transparency when my preferred practitioners left, which significantly impacted my experience. I understand privacy policies, but as a loyal client, I felt it would have been more considerate to inform me prior to my appointment that my practitioners would no longer be there, enabling me to make the decision if I wanted to see someone new or not. This would have allowed me to cancel, so I could continue my services with the professionals I had established trust with. I stand by my original review and hope future communication with clients will be handled with greater openness and respect. Thank you.

It's a very relaxing environment, soothing music, and everyone is very warm and welcoming. I was gifted a massage for my birthday. I got a massage today by Gwen and she was absolutely amazing. She massaged me from head to toe and her hands are magical. I told her my problem areas and she really honed in on them with just the right amount of pressure. Honestly, the combo of the comfy warm bed and Gwen made me nod off for a while, it was so relaxing. I definitely recommend giving this place a try. The massages and other services are quite pricey, but they offer an affordable monthly membership which offers a free service monthly!

I have visited the Fairmont Grand Del Mar spa 6-7 times and have generally had positive…read moreexperiences, but my most recent visit was so disappointing that I feel it is necessary to share my experience. While I appreciate the management's attempt to rectify some issues, the current quality simply does not match the premium price point. My friend and I booked our treatments at specific times online to maximize our time together, only to be told days later that the times were unavailable. In trying to resolve this, I discovered the spa had also changed my friend's appointments without notifying her. It took a 45-minute phone call and multiple follow-ups before a director finally stepped in to provide a day pass and an acoustic vibration meditation session to make amends. While I was grateful for the gesture, the meditation beds were unfortunately quite uncomfortable and didn't live up to the "state-of-the-art" description. For a spa that charges $200+ just for facility access, the upkeep was surprisingly poor. There were used towels strewn about the common areas, overflowing trash in the bathrooms, and when trying to locate an unused locker, myself and the staff member assisting me had to open several before finding a robe. The steam room was barely functioning with minimal to no steam produced. A large group of women in the solarium was incredibly loud (screaming and laughing) for a long period. While I'm glad they were enjoying themselves, multiple staff members walked by and never once stepped in to maintain the quiet, relaxing environment guests expect. While not part of the spa itself, the poolside service was notably slow; my friend waited an hour for her food and had to rush through it before her treatment. We were served without utensils and had to wait several more minutes for a server to return. I have long considered this one of the top two spas in San Diego, but after this experience, the value is no longer there. Management's effort to make it right was appreciated, but a luxury spa shouldn't require that much effort from the guest just to have a basic, clean, and coordinated experience. I'll be enjoying the other local luxury spa options moving forward.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: You get what you pay for…read more I don't get a lot of massages, and even when I do, it's not at places like this, as in, VERY fancy and very expensive. But when a special occasion arose with a group of girlfriends, I resigned myself and just handed over my credit card. Kyoko, the main spa attendant, greeted us warmly and showed us around. She was a friendly and helpful presence throughout our visit. I got the 60 minute relaxation massage, and it was worth every penny. My masseuse, Jasmine, was excellent, from the moment she greeted me to when the message was over and she bid me farewell with a tiny cup of their fresh-squeezed orange elixir and a warm towel. Speaking of towels, so many towels everywhere--all cloth. Nary a paper towel to be seen, even in the bathrooms. Their robes were fluffy and luxurious, and the slide sandals were nice quality, no cheap flip flops here. On our visit there weren't that many other guests (we did get there later in the day), so it felt very tranquil and private. We availed ourselves to the steam room, sauna, and whirlpool before and after our treatments, and hung out in the well-appointed ladies lounge with some of the available snacks: almonds, dried apricots, and housemate oat bars that were really yummy. It was a rare treat for me and I enjoyed every minute! Don't forget to get your valet parking validated before you go.
