I booked a gel mani + pedi combo ($80, 1 hr 30 min) online to make sure I'd get in on time. I arrived about 15 minutes early and told them I had an appt for the gel combo and they were able to seat me right away. The salon wasn't too busy and just a couple of other clients. I was asked to pick out a color and directed to a spa chair for my pedicure. I noticed a younger female employee sitting nearby, watching a male technician work on another client's pedicure. It looked like she was in training, which I completely understand because everyone has to start somewhere, and I appreciate that she was eager to learn. However, she ended up being the one assigned to me. She was very kind and polite, but it quickly became clear that she was inexperienced. I have a manicure license myself, so I can usually tell when techniques aren't quite there yet. Sometimes I just want to relax and be pampered rather than do my own nails, which is why this was especially disappointing. Unfortunately, the results didn't meet expectations. My big toenail came out crooked, and my cuticles, which are usually my favorite part of the service were barely cleaned up if even touched. It felt like I paid close to $150 just to soak my feet, polish, and a massage. The service took almost two hours, and at the end, she offered a complimentary shoulder massage. While I appreciated the gesture, it felt a bit awkward as I was seated facing a printer while she massaged my shoulders and also felt like an afterthought. When I went to the front to pay, I was expecting the $80 I had booked. Instead, I was told my total was over $100. I politely asked why, since I had scheduled the gel mani/pedi combo, and was told it was because I received a "spa" pedicure, which costs more. However, this was never explained during booking or before the service started. The website didn't mention any upgrade or price difference, and I wasn't given an option to approve or decline it beforehand. I went in, they started late then when I said I want builder gel instead of regular gel the lady rudely said no (I believe they double booked for 7 PM), but not enough staff. The gel was peeled within 2 days went back in to get it fixed, and now it's barely been a week and the same nail is peeling and another nail peeled. Maybe they're using old material, not sure, but they DO charge full price and extra too! I wanted something simple, nothing special. I went to AO Nails 3 times. First visit was great. Second visit wasn't - rough handling, bad communication, and my pedi left bumps. She got frustrated when my fingers got hot lol I honestly didn't want to go back, but I gave it one last shot because they take ClassPass. On the second visit, I saw another customer use ClassPass and pay extra for add-ons, and I even confirmed with the cashier that this was allowed. So I booked again. My original 11am Saturday appointment got moved to 1pm at their request, and I rearranged my whole day for it. I show up at 1pm, show them what I want, and they immediately shut it down. No designs, no hard gel - "because it's ClassPass." This was never mentioned beforehand and completely contradicted what I was told before. When I questioned it, they were rude and told me to call the owner, who had the same attitude. I ended up leaving and going elsewhere. After that, I had to contact ClassPass for a refund and then somehow got charged a no-show fee on Christmas morning. This happened because they marked me as no-show. Overall, super unprofessional, inconsistent rules, and not worth the hassle. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. read more

This is my third and final time here. The first couple of times I got solid colored gel. I figured I would try something different so I got gold chrome French tip. They did advise me it was going to be $30 extra for the chrome. The three times that I have gotten work done here there was always something off or missing . Either they didn't take off the cuticle or they messed up on the nail or I got cut. Also, all three times when I've paid I was made to feel that I had to tip and if I didn't tip, I would just get asked one more time about the tip. Whoever is at the front counter really pushes tips and it makes you feel like you're forced to give a tip. All the three times I don't think that they deserved a tip. I paid for the service, but I wasn't overly happy with the work. On this third and final time I got chrome French tip . They charged me $205 for Manny Petty chrome French tip. It's ridiculous how much I was charged. I was not expecting to be charged so much. Even when making the mass afterwards per their website, it should've been way less. She also mentioned that because I'm getting a combo I would get some kind of a discount, but apparently I didn't get it. I guess I should've spoken up but when they were done, I just really just wanted to go home. I paid half cash and half on card and because I paid with some cash she gave me a five dollar discount. Even though all three times I've been here were not to my satisfaction. I did tip twice. Customer services not-so-great, when I walked in there were 2 techs on their phone, they saw me walk in but took them a few minutes to greet and acknowledge me. This has been the worst quality gel manicure I've received. My thumb was chipped by the third day and a couple other nails by the end of the first week. Usually gel manicures last about 3 weeks for me. I do recall them saying they do free touch ups up to a week from when you get them done but unfortunately I was out of town and was unable to return. The floors, the walls, the doors, the chairs. Dirty UV lamps haphazardly stacked on eachother throughout the salon. I was seated and they were asking me to pick colors, which services I wanted, etc,. Their color books are gross and dirty, brands I have never seen before and they were being weird about letting me look through them. Tl;dr - One of the highest quality nail salons I've been to as of late - I've had my gel x nails for almost a month and they're still intact. Ask for Kiki, she's the sweetest!! I scheduled a super last minute nail appointment (like, as in less than 12 hours before I landed in SD) for a wedding and was so glad to see AO Nails had availability. I usually opt for gel x nails and scheduled an appointment with Kiki. The online scheduling portal was relatively easy to use. Kiki was wonderful and incredibly sweet, making sure I was comfortable along every step. She was also very accommodating for last minute designs I wanted to include as well. I've gotten gel x nails at different salons and I think AO Nails has to be the best deal for quality and price. For gel x + 4 designs I paid about $90 and the growth has been seamless. I'm not one to get my nails done very often, but once in a while I'll splurge. I don't do acrylics, and usually stick to a basic manicure and pedicure. My mom and I both wanted to have a day together so I spent a bunch of time researching and happened upon AO Nails. I called the number on their website and was able to book an appointment for that weekend. We struggled to find the spot as it's tucked away in a gated shopping center between tons of warehouse type buildings. When we arrived, there was only one or two customers there, and quite a few employees waiting. We walked in and immediately were greeted, and my mom was sent to start her pedicure. We wanted to get our nails done together but for the most part it was one after the other, so we were apart. The guy who did my moms pedicure didn't seem to be talkative. My mom tried to let him know her toenails were already short because she runs and that she didn't want them shorter, but he continued to clip her nails anyway. At one point my mom made a yelping noise and I asked if she was ok, and she had said he had hurt her. She said it out loud and he didn't apologize. It was very clear she was hurt, so it wasn't a matter of language barriers. When I finally was called over to get my nails started, my mom was practically done with her whole manicure/pedicure and had to wait for me. For my nails, I asked for a simple design done with gel. I've done this style before at other places so i figured it would be ok. When I had called to make the appointment I was quoted about $85 for my pedicure and gel manicure. I thought this price was pretty high (last time elsewhere it cost me $70 max), but I figured it was because it had been a while since I'd done my nails, and that this place must be good. You can understand my shock when I went to pay and my receipt was $105, a whole $20 more than I was quoted. (My moms mani/pedi was $50 and that was with no polish, and they didn't do the typical services covered with a pedi that she was expecting). I didn't want trouble so I paid and left, but I feel as though I should've said something. I don't know if it was an accidental overcharge or if their prices are just that outrageous but that made me not want to return. With all that being said, my nail tech did a really good job with the design I brought forward. I appreciate how cute my nails are, I just won't be returning. read more

My manicure was basically just a color change, no lotion, oil or massage so my hands were very dry after. My pedicure was just ok. I got french tip on my toes and they looked mostly ok, but I paid for the jelly (specifically because it came with 10 minutes massage) and she barley scrubbed my feet and I can't remember if she even put lotion on (lack of any massage). On top of that, I was charged $15 for french tip when most places charge $8 at the most for french tip. Again sweet ladies and nice place, but I probably won't go back just because of the value of what you get for higher prices. read more

My cousin had made this appointment for us along with another friend and they had barely started; their nail techs at least interacted with them, asking the necessary questions.
