Ever since I've done my nails once in Korea and in Orange County, I've been looking for a Korean nail salon as they know how to do really good nails including cleaning, etc. It took a bit to find this one on Yelp after extensive searching but decided to give it a try. Parking can be a bit tight but I usually go on a weekday afternoon so it's never crowded. This is inside a hair salon as FYI but Mi Won's nail salon inside is cute and bright. She's fluent in both English and Korean and is really nice where she even offers beverage if you want some. For basic gel, would take about 90 mins versus actual design can take 2-3 hours (depending on what the design is). She does such a great job with my nails and always makes sure if I'm okay. I've been going a few times on a monthly basis (4-6 weeks) and I always look forward to it. Just know that her schedule can get pretty packed with appointments as it's just her solely so be sure to book an appointment if you ever consider on going! Where to begin about Allure Nails and Mi Won... How about some back story? My one splurge for myself (not counting eating out, desserts, and the occasional cups of boba!) is getting gel manicures. This habit was curbed by the pandemic and restarted at the beginning of this year. I noticed that my nails seemed to be thinning with the gel manicures -- bendy and flexible. Not good. Think about popping open a can of Coke Zero and your nails bending... eeeeeeek!!!!! My nails' flexible state has to do with the gel removal, I'm sure of it. Some nail tech's soak your nails with cotton balls of acetone and hand scrape the polish off, while other nail tech's use a big ass drill that gets THIS close to your nail plate. OUCH. Stay away from the latter, or ask them to not take off your polish that way, people! I don't know much about manicures/nail care, but this much I know!! Anyway, I have long heard rumors of the healthier techniques of Korean/Japanese manicures, and wanted to try it. Cue: finding Mi Won and Allure Nails on Yelp. When I reached out to Mi Won back in March/April, she had not re-opened Allure Nails yet, (or it was still on a brief hiatus). But I told her that I would like to be notified of reopening and she remembered! And reached back out. We had a brief phone call discussing the history of my nails, what service I wanted, deposit for my visit ($35 at that time) and ironed out the details for my visit. Allure Nails is located inside Park Jun's Hair Salon in Zion Market, leftmost of the food court if you're facing the food court with Paris Bakery on your right side. Say "hi" and smile at the hair stylists as you make your way to the back of Park Jun's where, you will find Mi Won and her immaculate work space to the left of the stairs. Her beautifully organized nail polishes and aesthetically pleasing work space is a huge indication of her attention to detail, which you will notice once she works on your nails. Mi Won also takes great care in sanitizing and cleaning in between each client, and also explains the process of what she's doing to you if you have questions, or if it's your first time. She has little things like a cell phone holder for you, or a coaster for your drink, to make your visit a little more comfortable. I typically just get one color (was $50, but is now $60) for all my nails (maybe some glitter or alternating color every so often), and my visits are usually ~1.5 hours. I think the time I got glitter, it took a little longer (I should have estimated more time to my husband that time... oops! lol), but boy, it was WORTH IT. Mi Won basically makes the gel glitter polish right then and there and puts it on your nail(s) precisely... and ugh. Her work is just amazingly clean, meticulous... and you have to go see her for yourself. As I don't really get designs on my nails, I'm not sure how much she charges for that. The last time I got more than one color on my nails, it was +$5/nail (for a different color), and +$10/nail for glitter. So, for example, if you only wanted one nail on each hand (two fingers) to have glitter, that would be $60 base + $20 (if that's what the rate is for glitter). A piece of anecdotal advice: if you like short nails like me (we're talking *SHORT*), don't have Mi Won cut too short; there's still filing and shaping to be done. This is speaking from a couple of experiences where I've asked Mi Won to cut shortER, and then I've gotten cut while she's filing/shaping... I know, I know. Who in their right minds would get their nails cut so short when getting a manicure!? Bottomline: The gel (or even gel and dip) you get any where else will look like a toddler did it, compared to Mi Won's flawless work. My nails have never felt and looked better than under Mi Won's care. My gel polish has never lifted or peeled under Mi Won's care, not even at week three or four! I recently moved from HI and was dreading finding a new place to do my nails. I precisely wanted a salon that utilized Japanese/Korean gel products. Luckily, I ran into this Yelp account; I am so glad I did. Mi-Won is by appointment since she's the only one running the show. She will text you a day before your appointment, which is excellent. LOCATION: Mi-Won's salon is in Park Jun's Hair Salon in Zion Market on Balboa. Free parking! Park toward the entrance of Paris Baguette. Just walk toward the back of the salon, and you'll find her little nook. Mi-won is very clean and explains her sanitizing methods thoroughly the first time you come to your service. Everything is so neatly placed--it's very aesthetically pleasing. SERVICE: Mi-Won's attention to detail is unmatched. She is highly meticulous in everything she does. Mi-Won does not rush your service and gives your nails the TLC they deserve. I also appreciate that she educates you in nail care and aids you in color matching. I have dehydrated cuticles and years of nail-biting behind my back--I have come a long way, but Mi-Won did such a great job in cuticle care that my nails are in the best condition they've ever been. PRICE: Prices of nails are on the high end. However, you pay for what you get! So far, the cost for a base (one-color) gel mani/pedi is $60. If you want a design, Mi-Won usually charges per nail. Ideally, you know exactly what you want before your appointment and have a picture of it so that Mi-Won can assist you with pricing. If you are on a budget, Mi-Won is more than happy to assist you in meeting your goal. For reference, my mani was $60 base + $110 design ($11/nail), and pedi was $60 (hopefully that helps). This review is long overdue--I had my nails done by Mi Won back in November 2022 and forgot to write one until now, but I wholeheartedly recommend her! First off, it's extremely hard to find a good nail tech in San Diego, let alone one that uses quality Korean and Japanese polishes or knows how to replicate Eastern style nail aesthetics. Trust me, I've been to a few and my gel nails would literally be peeling after 3 days, or the nail art would look amateur. Mi Won is not only super talented with the brush, but she also takes care to explain why she uses the products she does, and explains the sanitary protocols she follows! It made me feel really safe knowing that my nails are in good hands, especially after a friend of mine got nail fungus from a different salon. Mi Won spent almost three hours on my nails which is longer than I expected. But I LOOOOVED my nails!! I think they looked even better than my inspo pic, and Mi Won was patient in helping me choose the right colors that would match my skin tone and give the nails a cohesive color story. I got tons of compliments on them wherever I went and my cuticles were looking smooth and healthy. The only thing I would caution a new customer with is that Mi Won's prices are above average. A gel mani starts off at $60, and when I asked how much extra the nail art would be, I was told $75 and I thought that would be the total... it was not, and I paid $135 for my nails That being said, I really don't have any complaints with the quality. I love my nails so much! I had been looking for someone to do the velvet look on my nails and saw her work on Yelp and Instagram. I am always a little hesitant trying new people before a big event and I am so glad I did. Initially, she was busy on the days I gave her but then she actually had a cancellation and reached out to me to see if I could make it. I felt like she listened to my concerns and gave me what I was looking for. I don't like a thick gel manicure and she was able to give me more of a thin to medium thickness instead. My nails (especially cuticles) look so clean and healthy. I think the only thing I wished was differently was having a step stool for my feet to rest on since my feet doesn't really touch the floor and I can't be too low because then it's a weird angle for my arms through the plexiglass. This was my second time ever getting my nails done professionally, so most of my opinions will be drawn from comparing my first time experience at shop near my house and my second time experience at Allure Nails. The first thing that I noticed about the shop, is how neatly everything was organized and sanitized. She has two different sanitizing machine to make sure all the tools, chairs and the general area are cleaned before proceeding with her next client. She also treats the nails with caution and care. I have no irritations on my nail bed nor my cuticles, which was something that I had a problem with from previous nail salon that I visited. I love how she have pride in her work and true care for the health of her clients' nail unlike other larger shops that focuses just on getting it done ASAP.
