I am so happy with the gel manicure and the service I received at SD Nails! I was able to get an appointment easily with Christina. SD Nails is in the same lot as easy does it, Spicy Lao Kitchen, and Pho Duyen Mai, so parking is a bit fraught. Thankfully, I nabbed a spot and made it on time to my appointment. The nail salon is spacious and clean. I came in the early afternoon and there were very few customers at that time. They play music in the background and have TVs if you wish to watch something. I was given a binder with Diva brand gel nail polish and pursued through, looking for a red. Once I made my initial color decision, Christina got started with nail prep. She is very quick, careful, and precise with the filing and cuticle trim. She has such a light hand! I had no pain, redness, or swelling. She kept her work super neat and brushed nail dust off as she went. She listened carefully to what nail shape I wanted, and checked in with me to make sure I was happy with the shape before proceeding. When Christina applied the first layer of my chosen red to one of my nails, I immediately felt that it was too bright for my tastes. I felt bad speaking up, but Christina was very gracious about it and gave me more time to choose. When I was not happy with any of the reds in the Diva collection, she pulled out the swatches for another brand of gel polishes, and I found a red I was happy with there. I forget the brand but the code was 046. She applied it to another finger for me to see, and I was happy with this darker red. She cleaned off my first finger and started applying thin, neat layers to all of my fingers. I was really impressed by how clean her gel application was. I never felt the brush touch the surrounding skin, and she made sure to clean around and under the nail as she went. I also feel like the UV lamp was not too harsh. Sometimes, I feel a little sunburnt in the fingertips after getting my nails done, and even though I always apply sunscreen prior to a nail appointment, it is still not a pleasant feeling. The lamp here was definitely warm but not irritating. The time was also set appropriately and I never had to re-cure a layer. After the manicure itself, Christina did a super relaxing hand massage, not just half-hearted hand squeezing, and applied cuticle oil. The whole process took 50 minutes, cost ~$30, and I felt well-cared for the whole time. I have been to nail salons that leave me with streaky polish, messy skin, or nail dust under my nails. This is NOT that type of salon. I am super happy with the service and manicure I received here, and will definitely be back. I highly recommend Christina, she is excellent! read more

First time coming here and I had an appointment with Christina. The staff was really sweet, but unfortunately the person who prepped my nails e-filed my cuticle raw and it's been bleeding for 3 days now. She apologized and once Christina was finished with a different client, she came over to do my set. A bit of a wait in between but to be expected. Christina did a great job on my nails and checked in many times to see if I liked the color/shape and did a good job at avoiding the open wound. Overall, I would come back, but hopefully would have my nails prepped by someone else or keep it consistent with Christina the whole time. read more

First time going to this nail salon/really getting my nails done in general and they were really nice! I got GelX nails with ombré/a design with Ani, and she was gentle and checked in with me throughout the whole process to make sure I liked the shape/color. I think the end result matched the inspo pics I showed her pretty well. I noticed that the nail design wasn't flipped on the opposite hand but actually the same, but I guess that was partially my own fault for not noticing either until I stepped out of the store. After a few days though, I'm noticing that some of my nails have already chipped around the edges and the bottom of some nails look like they're starting to peel, which I was not expecting to happen with GelX... They do a slight discount if you pay in cash and also have a stamp card if you go frequently. read more

I'll start with the good, because there was a lot of it! I was seated right away as a walk in and was seen immediately, which was very nice of them! The ladies I worked with were very nice and efficient, very careful with the polish and did a beautiful job with the nails. I opted for a pedicure with callus removal and that also started just fine except the hard sponge they used was a bit sharp. It felt like it cut me when she brought it up to the side of my foot and I pulled my foot away for a moment as it was uncomfortable. She seemed apologetic and I don't think she noticed that she had cut me. I wasn't able to get a good look at it until I left the salon but a few days later it's still a bit raw/painful. I'm training for a half marathon and will likely need to take a few days off running which is a bummer. I would go back again because the rest of the experience was so positive, but I likely won't do the callus removal again as it was just a bit too rough. read more

Updating my review because although they do a good job with nails, I think the appointments need to be managed better. I've done walk ins and completely understand the wait time, but when I have an appointment scheduled, and end up waiting over 20 minutes, it's disappointing and a waste of my time. This was my go-to salon but this has happened to me several times and I've finally just found it to be the last straw. I don't plan on returning. read more

I search for hours for nail salon in San Diego and finally found this gem! This is one of the best nail salons I've ever been to. The prices are reasonable (best Ive found $42 gel pedicure. $65 ombre gelx or acrylic, no up charge!!). The staff was super friendly. Very clean and fast service. I was able to get done my pedicure and my nails at the same time, making the visit shorter than expected. They have so many colors to choose from. I never seen so many before! I showed my nail tech the inspo pic of the nails I wanted and she had never done ones like it before but she did such a great job and not to mentioned she stayed a little late to finish. I've been coming here for quite awhile and I love it. It's really good and Michele and her team are very attentive, I don't get a better pedicure anywhere else! ...so the secret is getting out. If you are tired of subpar pedicures and manicures, make an appointment and I'm sure you will love it. They recently got this new delux pedicure system where you can pick a relaxing scent. I actually really love this place but honestly the pricing was ridiculous, I got a $23 signature manicure, they charged me $30 to change the gel color and $5 for take off gel.... none of this was mentioned to me I had to google it bc the guy couldn't explain to me what was charged. I also got a signature pedicure $36 I got French tip she said was $5... I got charged for gel color change $30 and I have two acrylic toes but they did not fill ? Just file??? I've been a loyal customer at this nail salon and have always had great experiences--until today. It was absolutely horrible, and I will never be coming back. My grandmother was visiting from New Orleans, and I wanted to treat her to a pedicure since I've always had good service here. Unfortunately, her experience was nothing like mine. While all the steps of the pedicure were completed, it was rushed and lacked care. After I addressed the issue with the owner, they did agree to redo it, which I appreciated. However, the worst part was the attitude from the technician. My grandmother wanted to leave a tip and was setting up her Zelle, but instead of being patient, the technician rolled her eyes and acted annoyed. At that point, I told my grandmother not to tip at all--if they were that inconvenienced, they didn't deserve it. I don't know what was going on today, but the service was disappointing and unprofessional. I regret even paying for it. I won't be back. read more
