The hubs and I went here this past Friday, 2-13, to celebrate his mama's bday along with his family members. It was a total of 8 of us. Our reservations were at 9pm, however they close at 10 (I didn't make the reservations. I would've never made reservations an hr. before close). When I tell y'all we still got great service at this late time, I was in disbelief! Our waitress, Andrea, was EXCELLENT!! She was so patient and she never let on that she was irritated by us being there so late! Also, the owner, Federico, came over and gave us a rundown on the specials and a little backstory on the restaurant, which was a nice added touch, considering the time. The food was absolutely great! I had the Pear Burrata salad. It was so tasty, but needed a little bit more dressing..but still great! I also tasted hubs shrimp scampi! DELISH!! Unlike any shrimp scampi I've ever had! He also ordered the oxtail flat bread..wait what?!! Y'all it was soo GOOD!! I had never heard of anything like this before! Please try it out if you like oxtails! As a foodie, I'm always excited to try new restaurants, so we decided to give this place a shot. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. Service: The service was just okay at best. Out of three orders, two were incorrect (both with wrong pasta that we ordered), and I had to remind the server about my cocktails when the entrées were already served. We were also celebrating a little girl's birthday, which made the experience even more disappointing. After two desserts were already brought out, I had to ask the host to bring a candle as I didn't see my server. Eventually a plate with "Happy Birthday" written on it came out, and we were told the server was "working on it," but it felt like an afterthought. The server didn't come out herself or even acknowledge the birthday, which was a letdown for a special moment. Ambience: This place is just too loud to even have a normal conversation. It's not the music that's the issue -- it's the space. The restaurant feels very small and overcrowded, with tables packed too closely together. With that many people in such a tight space, the noise level becomes overwhelming. Because of that, I definitely wouldn't recommend this place for date nights or any occasion where you actually want to talk and enjoy the moment. An authentic Italian fine dining gem in John's Creek! We recently visited with friends, and the place was packed even on a weekday--so I highly recommend making a reservation. Parking was easy with free spots available on-site. The staff were warm and welcoming, setting a great tone for the evening. We started with an Old Fashioned--perfectly made with three cherries, just the way I like it. The appetizers were excellent, and the Tomato Bruschetta stood out as my favorite. Calamari Fritti had a good portion too. For mains, we tried the lamb chops, halibut, and veal ravioli. The portions were very generous, and each dish was full of authentic flavor. It happened to be the last day the lamb chops were on their menu, so we were lucky to try them. Overall, a wonderful dining experience. Sugo is an amazing place for great food. Upon first step inside, the lighting is dimmed, making it the perfect ambience for a date night with your partner. The tables are decorated simply, but just enough to give the overall setting a good vibe. My server was very helpful, giving his opinions on all food items as soon as he was informed that it was our first time in. We were given bread for the table and ordered an appetizer to share, which was beyond flavorful. We each ordered an entrée, and our server was nice enough to allow us to make modifications to each of our meals to ensure it was the "perfect" presentation. All in all this was a good experience. The service was good as was the food! I had the shrimp scampi and while I don't like the tails left on shrimp. I understand that sort of a chef's choice type of situation. So no marks off for that. I was surprised at how slow it was at the time that we ate, but it was only about five 530 on a Wednesday. The lighting is a bit dim even during the day, as blackout curtains are used to create a specific atmosphere. The decor and ambiance are lovely. It's not too loud or noisy inside, which makes dining feel more relaxed. However, the tables are placed quite close together, so conversations from neighboring tables can be easily overheard at normal speaking volume. Our server, Katie, was absolutely charming and radiated positive energy. She was knowledgeable about the menu, offered great recommendations, and was attentive throughout our meal. It took 20 mins before someone even came to our table to pour waters but it might've been due to confusion as to whether our whole party has arrived or not. We lucked out at Sugo, a restaurant I hadn't been to in over 10 years. Sugo, known for its eclectic menu & great service delivered the goods in spades. From the wonderful Spanish Brut rosé Cava through to our desserts, we were happily spoiled & our hunger satiated. The best dining experience of 2024, and some of the best service I've ever had anywhere. Everything, from the food to the ambiance to the service, was outstanding. I truly can't praise this place enough. The owners, Frederico and Nancy, are shockingly friendly and welcoming. Seriously, they remind you of what truly great service should be. We ordered the eggplant parm, burrata appetizer, Aunt Lena's chicken, and Patagonian salmon, and every dish was phenomenal. I was visiting Sugo with some out of town friends and what a great experience! One of the best espresso martinis I've ever had!! The burrata was outstanding. I visited Italy earlier last year and this was very comparable. I got the shrimp pasta which was delightful and a large portion (I brought some home). However, it was a little spicy so beware. The service was wonderful, however we had to wait over an hour for our table of 8 when we had a reservation which was inconvenient. I started with the meatball al sugo, which was a generous sausage meatball with very flavorful sauce, rich tomatoes, and a perfect blend of Italian seasonings topped with parmesan cheese. For my entree, I chose the hanger steak, medium rare. The steak was cooked perfectly, tender, mild smokey flavor with a great sear. The garnish was the perfect compliment. If you're looking for a good Italian meal and atmosphere - look no further than Sugo in John's Creek! I've been here a couple of different times now, and every time I have visited it's always been a fantastic experience from the moment I sit down to the signing of the check. They are on the OpenTable app, so I do recommend booking a reservation using the app especially if you plan to dine on the weekend. Every table is candlelit, and the low lighting throughout adds to the romantic and intimate ambiance. It's a great spot for a special occasion or celebration, but also just as great for a random date night out. Service never disappoints, and both times I have been here the owner has also been onsite and makes sure to check in with every table and welcomes those dining with warmth and fun anecdotes and stories about some of the menu items and recipes. I highly recommend the Greek Flatbread with figs, arugula, basil pesto, aged feta, and mozzarella to start, and the Meatball Al Sugo. For pasta dishes, the Shrimp Scampi and Blackened Chicken Pasta are wonderful options. I never save enough room for dessert, but I hope to next time. My girlfriend and I have been to regular dining experiences but we attended the vegetarian prix fixe dining event and it was spectacular. The food was both thoughtful and innovative - The Chef, Ricardo, put in an incredible amount of effort in his dishes taking into consideration the texture, flavour profile, and made sure to add some seasonal influence with it being Autumn. Food Courses: * Cauliflower Picatta - My girlfriend loved this. I thought it was well done and the chef's explanation behind it really enhanced the experienced as he went through the process of creating it in both his mind and in practice. Personally didn't think butter and cauliflower would go well together but it tasted great. * Butternut Squash Agnolotti - The highlight of my night. This was fantastic and most of the other folks that were dining agreed. The agnolotti was sweet and the toasted pumpkin seeds were a fantastic touch. Chef Ricardo, if you're reading this, THIS is the one you should add to the menu :) * Spaghetti & Meatballs - This was a unique dish in that the meatball was made with mushrooms and dates among other things. I personally am not a fan of dates but it still tasted great alongside the spaghetti. It was a contrasting dish from the previous so it served well to be third on the menu. * Watermelon Steak - Honestly, this was the dish that intrigued me the most on the menu but ended up being my least favourite. Maybe it's me being vegetarian all of my life, but the flavors and seasoning reminded me of meat a little bit and my girlfriend, who isn't a vegetarian, also agreed. We came here last night for a celebratory dinner after not seeing each other for months. Sugo is always, ALWAYS on top of their game and last night being as busy as it was, still came through. Our server, Reese, was relatively new and you couldn't tell. She knew the menu for recommendations, some drinks that were popular, and we never wanted for anything. Super pleasant! We started with a robust three apps. Mialino flatbread (how does it stay so crispy and thin?), calamari, and the Brussels Sprouts. Just perfection. For entrees, my friends got the shrimp scampi which has a kick to it, and the special blackened chicken with pasta. I was pretty full, but went with my usual cannelloni. Perfect size, delicious!
