Cute tea house! Very warm and cozy vibes. Large selection of tea but they seemed to be out of some. Large quantity of food however it isn't that traditional and the food was a little bland/dry. You can choose between the soup of the day or a fruit cup, each comes with half a scone. I chose the asparagus parm soup. I wish the scone would have came with jam and clotted cream. We got a stuffed mushroom, pig in a blanket, chicken salad, and some kind of biscuit. Seems like the options for afternoon tea rotate. The best thing was probably the soup and desserts! Service was good, would have liked for our waitress to explain what each thing on the tier was though or have a sign on every table. read more

This cute little shop is tucked away in the Millcreek neighborhood and is easy to miss. Sandwiches, desserts, and tea are the primary offerings, and though the prices are a little steep, you won't be disappointed by the flavor. If you're just looking for a filling lunch, I highly recommend the Apple Walnut Grilled chicken salad -- the poppyseed dressing is amazing -- or Turkey and Brie sandwich for lunch. But if you're here for more of the tea experience, Garden Tea and High Tea are where it's at. Depending on the time of day/your mood, you can opt for soup and bread or fruit and scones (do NOT pass up the scones or lemon curd) in addition to an assortment of savories, sweets, and a pot of tea (your choice). I'm not a *huge* tea person, but I do like their black teas with a little milk or the chai. The green teas are smooth and gentle, too, if you're looking for something more on the light side. For folks like me, they do offer coffee as well. Be sure to save enough room for dessert! They have a rotating assortment of ice creams and sorbet at the front counter -- perfect palate cleansers. (I always recommend the mango sorbet.) The space isn't huge, and getting around inside can be a little tight, but there are covered tables on the outdoor patio, too. They rent out for small private events if interested. Be mindful of the weird and short business hours before stopping by to avoid disappointment! read more

I went today with a friend. I made a reservation and it was our first time there and I have to say. I wasn't Disney at all the flavors or the teas ( I tried multiple ones) were so good the staff very nice and we had quesadillas and fries for lunch and it was so good. Super cute restaurant but the food and beverages were just mediocre! The desserts tasted bland and the cheeseburger sliders were very dry. Tea tasted the same everywhere. The milkshakes were amazing but the smoothies weren't so great at all. But all in all the atmosphere was enjoyable. Our waitress was very friendly! I recently hosted a bridal shower for my sister in law here - site unseen. Boy did I luck out! It's a bit off the beaten path tucked in a residential development and farmland - but it provides a really nice atmosphere/backdrop. They put us in a large room in the front so we had privacy which was really nice. The food was very tasty - especially the homemade blueberry scones and crab salad (REAL crab). The salads were fresh and delicious. A variety of hot and cold gourmet teas are available and everyone was pleased with their selections. The chef recently received an award and it's easy to see why. Service was friendly, accommodating and attentive. Two thumbs way up - highly recommend for lunch or a gathering. Go! read more

Called to make reservations for Royal Tea and discussed my food allergies. I was told no problem. Arrived at tea room-waited 15 minutes before someone came out to ask us why we were there-told them we had reservations. One waitress for the entire place. Had to tell her we were there for Royal Tea and that I had discussed my allergies when I made the reservations. She said "ok what are they". I was a little concerned for fear that the food being served was going to have the ingredients I was allergic to. It took 1 hour from when we sat down to get our pot of tea to us. The waitress told us we were getting one kind of scone-when it came out it was different-15 minutes later when she came back we questioned the scone" oh we ran out of those so we substituted"-would have been nice to have been told that. The desserts very basic-another table had chocolate covered strawberries-we asked why we did not have them were told "it's the chef's choice"! Waitress was not dressed for tea room theme-had on jeans, spotted t-shirt and a bandanna around her head. Go to a real tea room and take notes! read more

Lovely, quaint, hidden gem! Never would suspect this place here....amongst all the trees, hills and country-feeling neighborhood! Rocking chairs on the patio add to the ambiance. There are a myriad of teas, coffees, jams, homemade desserts, and fresh salads and sandwiches. Think HighTea and frills! I love how Sugarplums is tucked into a neighborhood. The building itself is beautiful with high ceilings and tastefully decorated. My two daughters and I came to visit for our annual Christmas tea. We normally go to a place close by, but wanted to try some place new this year. We will definitely be back! The two main differences I would point out between Sugarplums and other tea rooms, is that 1.) Sugarplums has a much larger menu, and is a place that you could go to just for a regular lunch, and 2.) Sugarplums is not a traditional Victorian tea room that uses fancy china or lace tablecloths. Prices are reasonable and dress is casual. A+ for service. As soon as we entered, we were greeted and seated immediately. Our waitress was cheery and professional. The food was very good! My girls ordered the High Tea. I would like to have ordered the High Tea, but trying to be careful calorie-wise, ordered the smaller Garden Tea. Each of us really had no complaints. Their tea listing is crazy long, and so I decided, what the heck, I'll try something different. Usually when I do this, I'm sorry. I threw caution to the wind and ordered chocolate chai. It was amazing! I guess I expected it to be overpowering, but the spices and chocolate were balanced just right. That day, as they change their menu frequently, the High Tea savories included scallop sliders, chicken salad with jalapeno jelly, flat bread with braised ribs (I believe), and hash brown casserole. The girls raved about the hash brown casserole and were pleased with everything. The three sweets consisted of a peppermint brownie in a tiny cup topped with whipped cream (a little too sweet for my one daughter), and two others, which I can't remember, but were enjoyed. My Garden Tea had a very good simple salad with poppy seed dressing, fresh fruit cup, chicken salad (so delicious, made with chunks of chicken and the jalopeno jelly), and the most amazing lemon scone with side of lemon curd. Out of the way place for the serious tea drinker. They've got a good selection of pastries to accompany your cup of tea. They have DOZENS of tea varieties an the pastries are done at the shop with the owner being a pedigreed chef and the staff is extremely friendly. The shop is in the middle of a residential neighborhood so you'd never find it unless you were going specifically there so it's a relatively hidden gem in Lancaster. I've had high tea, and regularly purchase pastries and tea (for consumption at home) Since I discovered the place, I'm actually drinking more tea than coffee. Some of our group ordered the high tea and others ordered sandwiches, but we all thought the food was good. One of the two waitress accidentally spilled the vase of flower water into the soup bread. No one saw it at the time, but accidents do happen. But when we asked the older waitress to replace it, it took so long that the soup got cold. It just seemed the whole time we were there that we were inconveniencing her. I think she thought that we had spilled the water ourselves, rather than the other waitress. Part of the table stayed wet the whole meal because we didn't want to ask her any more than we had to. Later she took our nice vase of fresh flowers away without speaking a word. It was quirky and I felt she was treating us like kindergartners. We had to ask for several missing things - a tea cup & saucer, a glass of iced tea, and a silverware set and napkin. If we were able to get along without them, we wouldn't have asked because the atmosphere felt so strained to make requests and we wanted our tea to be a happy time for us. I was missing my soup spoon too, but decided not to ask for it. I used my tea spoon for both my soup and tea. The waitress didn't seem cutout to serve and had few or no words, even though we stayed gracious. We finally asked for dessert plates for our sweets because we didn't want to eat them in the wetness of the chicken salad mayonnaise. Clean plates should always be offered for a different course without needing to ask. She didn't give us clean forks, even though she had them in her hand. Good service is part of being able to enjoy a smooth, gracious, no-fret time. It's why you pay more for the comparatively smaller amount of food in comparison to cost, in order to experience High Tea. But even all this wouldn't have made me give such a bad review. There's more. The desserts were quite tasty. And we were really enjoying our teas, but weren't allowed to finish them. As soon as we were done with food, the waitress communicated and confirmed that we needed to leave. They had a another party coming in - after only one and a half hours since we came for our reservation. We left feeling unfulfilled with our tea time, but didn't want the next group feeling badly and ruin their tea too. The restaurant should have spaced out the two reserved parties better. We were on our annual Tea party reunion, and one of the girls lives six hours away so we couldn't simply reschedule for the following week to make up for this bad experience. It will have to wait for another year. We were looking forward to sitting and talking, as we have in past years at other tea houses. Catching up was to be the best part of the tea; but our time was cut in half at this place. Sadly, we won't return, because our rare day together was unnecessarily frustrated. We surely would have forgotten the negative aspects of the service if we had our expected warm conversation and fellowship and hadn't been rushed out. But by making us feel uncomfortable to linger over our tea, it was the final straw and it guaranteed that we will always remember this place in a negative light. Bottom line: the food was good, but the service and hospitality were so poor that it tarnished our day. It's a shame because we'd always rather have a good report for any place we visit. I just hope they read this and NOT repeat the poor hospitality for others sake. read more

I was able to make reservations ahead of my trip to Pennsylvania, which was great since this place was bustling when we strolled in. We opted for the tea service, which came with two cups of corn and noodle soup, a variety of tea sandwiches, two pots of tea, and sweet savories. Nice place, but service is inconsistent. I had gone several times with my mother, and asked about making a standing weekly reservation - the woman I assume was the owner or manager seemed annoyed at the prospect, which threw me for a loop. She reluctantly took the reservations, but made sure to tell me that there would be times when they have large parties, and that the two of us may not be accommodated at the same time each week. When they do have a party, the service is slow and it is obvious you are not a priority - so why bother to be open to the public those days?? If they treat regular customers like that, I would hope that they change their policy and close the place for events like that. They often run out of items, forget to bring you things and they put lemon curd along side (touching) every scone - even ones like java chocolate chip, and the result is unappealing. Salads are very good and ingredients are fresh, so it's not a total loss. the high tea is NOT worth the $17.50 price tag though. Since I, like most people, work a job and cannot come during a work day, I would imagine these issues can be overcome by coming during off-peak hours. Despite the fact that I went every Sunday for about 8 weeks, I never was recognized by staff or thanked for my repeat patronage. Just not a warm feeling. I have cancelled the rest of my reservations and won't return - I am sure there are other establishments happy to have loyal, weekly customers. This one definitely does not. read more

Had lunch with a group of ladies last week. They had a great selection of sandwiches and salads, as well as teas. I had the high tea, which was wonderful! All of my friends' lunches looked awesome as well! I have a couple of food allergies, and the staff was very accommodating in switching a few of the deserts for me.
