It was my first time at SugarCoat this morning. I went in for a classic spa pedicure. On the website, a classic spa pedicure was supposed to include 'cuticle care, shaped with a sugar scrub and a 5 minute hot stone massage'. I got a 5 minute massage but there were no hot stones. I'm not sure if the website services are old, but I was bummed it didn't include hot stones. Apple was my nail tech. She did a wonderful job. One thing to note is that they accept card, cash, Venmo and Zelle. Cash tips are preferred. I'll be coming back! read more

Sugarcoat is one of the very few nail salons I ever went more than once in my lifetime. I have always gone to a new nail salon every time because I was always dissatisfied by the work, rushed pace, or limited selection of finishes, but Sugarcoat has been able to accomplish multiple finishes (unicorn holo, chrome, matte, etc.) and match designs from photos of nails from IG/internet nearly spot on. The girls are friendly and while they chat to one another here and there it's not as often as other places where they chat loudly so much that the whole time they're distracted and the work is subpar. Here they actually are still focused on their work here while softly chatting to each other. They even offer water or champagne sometimes. And the last time I came here, one of the mail tech had new gadgets like nail clippers that kept the same exact length for all the nails and UV flashlights to glue the nail tip to the nail bed for GEL X manicures. They also use a timer for the foot massages so you know you're getting the actual time paid for. Unfortunately, I no longer live in South Bay to come here but if anyone were to ask to recommend a place in San Jose, this would be it. read more

Walked in and was greeted with kindness! I think the staff could tell I was a bit nervous (first time getting a pedicure by myself). I ended up getting the Lavender Spa Pedicure and they set the station up. I waited about 15 minutes with my feet soaking and my ONLY complaint was the water wasn't warm. Other than that, once the service started they immediately noticed and ran the water again and it was such a lovely pedicure!! Staff were super sweet, we talked about food recommendations and kept asking if things were okay. Will definitely be coming back! read more

This is long overdue and I have not been back since. I made an appointment for 2 people to get mani/pedi and when arrived told there was only enough time for one because they were short staffed-this was a colossal waste of time for one of us and I just wish they would be more mindful and not take every appointment that calls in regardless of their staff. I got my first manicure at SugarCoat and it was pretty great! The nail techs were super nice and patient when it came to choosing colors. In the end I couldn't really make up my mind so they recommended OPI Bubble Bath gel polish. I ended up going with that and it looks so pretty and natural! When it was time for my manicure, the nail techs were so efficient and it went so much quicker than I expected. Once my nails were done I noticed part of the gel was bubbling, but my nail tech was really nice and helped smooth it out. However, there were a couple issues that occurred too. Since this was my first manicure, I'm not sure if this is normal but curing the gel polish made my nails feel like they were burning. Also I left the salon, I noticed some other nails had really small bubbles and there was some polish stuck to a cuticle which made the nail polish lift a bit. In the end my gel polish lasted maybe around a week without noticeable chipping. Overall, I still liked the experience here so I might come back and try it again. read more

Honestly, this use to be my go-to spot! I've been sleeping on this place! I really forgot how nice this salon is. I called in for an appointment the day of (8/20; 3PM) was able to get an appointment at 4:30PM. Walked in a few mins late, was greeted and seated right away. I originally was going to get a dip powder manicure. Turns out, my nails are too short. I was asked if I wanted to add tips for it, which I declined. I decided to do the gel manicure lavendar spa ($50). I got the deluxe spa for my pedicure ($40). Both in color #666 Minted Tint. The salon is usually clean. The instruments are sterilized. Before anything was done, the ladies asked me first which was always appreciated. Ann started on my pedicure. I asked her to be gentle when cutting my cuticles and shaping them. She was happy to do so. She even thanked me for letting her know. It was really refreshing for that and great to hear. My toes look good! The hot stone massage was absolutely relaxing. Julie started with my manicure not too long after. She also was very polite and welcoming. My cuticles and the shaping of my nails look very good. Same color polish as my toes. My nails look good. I can't stop looking at them. Hot stone massage was also feeling really good. 5% off if you pay with cash. Definitely tipped the ladies in cash. The color selection is pretty extensive. The bathroom was clean. The chair and surrounding areas are clean. Honestly, I'm only giving this place a 4 -star right now because after I got home, my big toe and 2 fingers were hurting. My assumption is I got these little cuts from the salon. My toe was throbbing and my fingers were hurting. I get it, sometimes contact is made to the skin and there's broken skin. But 2 fingers and a big toe. That got me! I guess I hadn't realized they made contact with my skin until after. I guess, we all need to be more careful. I didn't feel it at the time, so I didn't let the ladies know. If I did, I would've let them know. Can't sleep on this place no more, I will have to keep my nails longer so I can get my ombré dip powder. Glad I went back and tried it again. read more

New customer here. I found this spot when the place I usually use was fully booked. Sugarcoat Nail Bar took me in right away, the place has a lovely design, and the staff is so nice. Even my nail lady was so nice and helpful until another customer came in. Unfortunately I REALLY HATE my nails SO MUCH. The girl I had was doing a great job until I guess her regular came in. Then she started RUSHING and not doing a good job at all. I have a HUGE space that looks like my nails are grown out when I JUST GOT them. I am very unhappy. Not only that but they sat her very loud regular so close to me that if I lifted my elbow I would've touched the ladies scooter. I couldn't even relax while I got my nails done because they had the super loud lady talking so much and sitting literally soooo close right next to me when there was SO MANY other places they could've put her. Not only that but the regular was staring at me and she wrote a message to the nail lady on a piece of paper like a secret message and said "Doesn't she????" Meaning she clearly wrote a note about me and handed it to the girl right in front of my face. WTHECK is this?? I'm pretty outraged that they couldn't put the loud obnoxious woman in another spot. Her being there clearly distracted my nail lady. I understand that regulars are important but now I have to get my nails done AGAIN because clearly the loud obnoxious lady is more important than my "new customer" nails. I will not be coming back and I don't recommend this place. The gap between my "new nails" and cuticle is HUMONGOUS. Everytime I come here I am never disappointed. This last time I went was no exception. I went as a walk in and was seated within 5 minutes. I got helped by Lam and she was very kind. She helped me choose a design and was really good at explaining what she was planning on doing and checking to see if it was okay with me. I walked into this adorable nail salon for the first time and met with an amazing, sweet scent - not at all what I would expect from a nail salon! They had the cutest Minnie Mouse chairs for little girls! My friend and I showed up 1 hour before it closed and it was pretty busy! They have several nail techs which is great! The women here were so kind and gracious, they worked 30 minutes past closing so that we could both get our nails done. They were quick and did a good job! A couple things to know: they take Venmo, Apple Pay and credit card, but tips are cash only. They have an ATM that only charges $1 to withdraw cash. If you choose gel nail polish it's an extra $10, so just be mindful of that. If you're replacing your acrylic set or you are taking your dip powder off, they charged $10. I had a nail dip and I switched to acrylic. It took about 5 minutes to remove the week dip powder. They are great at shaping your nails and they have neat nail wraps! read more

I'm down grading my review based on my experience on February 14th. I went in for a Gel X refill and maybe it was a off day, but I didn't leave happy like I did the prior time. Julie was my nail tech and I had a feeling she mainly does pedicures based on our interaction. Normally when they bring you the nail polish options, they ask you right away what color you want. The color selection was moved and had to be brought back since I wasn't expecting to memorize my color selection. No big deal, but odd. She never asked me what shape or if I wanted the same shape as before. I pointed out three times that my middle finger on my right hand was shorter than the rest of my nails, she would shape it more and then keep going. Past telling someone the same thing three times and not getting it, I give up. By the time the nail polish was on, I felt like she was rushing me to get out. Also she only did one top coat (I'm used to two layers of top coat) so maybe that's why it started chipping six days after I got the manicure? It also already looks like I need a fill which is disappointing. I originally wasn't going to write this review because it was so great the last time. Maybe I just caught them on a off day. But the Gel X refill was $50 before tip which is a lot of money for a manicure I'm unhappy with and need to pay to get fixed. read more

Jen did my acrylic set and she did a fabulous job. She's such a professional and did my set in about an hour. She was careful and thorough. I mentioned it was my birthday this Friday and she added gems to accent my ring fingers for free, so sweet. Unfortunately some of my nails do have air bubbles. Since this was my first time get acrylics, it was unclear how many times I needed to stick my hands in the light to set the nails so I wonder how the air bubbles could be prevented next time. But it's not noticeable unless I'm looking closely at my nails. Ask for Jen to do your acrylics! It was $60 for my set. Customers get 5% off if they pay in cash, and they do have an ATM. when you pay with CC, I noticed there wasn't a line for tip, so bring cash for tip if you're planning to pay with CC. read more

My nail techs were Amy & Natalie (pedi/mani) and both of them did an diligent and amazing job. I got the deluxe pedi ($40) which came with a heel treatment and 7 min massage...amazing! Amy used some lemon scrub that smelled amazing. My mani (gel) was also $40 and also came with a heated stone massage for 5 mins. This is my go-to nail salon in San Jose. Prices are on the higher side, but it is located in Willow Glen‍ I usually go to either Jen or Mai and they don't disappoint. They both have been with me on my nail growth journey and I can't thank them enough. I used to have nubs for fingernails from all the peeling I did, but now they are long and strong! Jen and Mai are both really great with their dip application and shaping. And they're also really understanding, especially on the days when I come in to the salon dead tired from working all night and don't want to talk. I love them for never pressuring me into conversation they know I don't have the capacity for hahah I scheduled with Mai for another dip and chose to go with a matte lavender color this time. I have been to SugarCoat Nail Bar in the past and it was such a great experience. However, I went this past Saturday with two of my friends and had such an awful experience! I got a manicure and pedicure. The pedicure was fantastic! However, the manicure service was terrible. The nail technician rushed through my manicure service and did not even let me see the color on my nails. The technician was disinterested in my satisfaction and was more focused on finishing the service quickly. When the nail technician finally let me see my nails, I mentioned that the color is too light and to add more coats. The nail technician refused to fix the issues and said they were done. I asked the nail technician twice and each time she impolitely refused. I brought my concerns to the other staff members and they were dismissive and unprofessional. One of the ladies finally talked with my nail technician and she FINALLY agreed to fix my nails. However, she told me that I would have to pay additionally to get it fixed or she can paint over it. I refused to pay additional because it was this technician's fault in the first place. Therefore, I chose to paint over it. When I made this option this nail technician, Ann, threatened not to come back if anything happens to my nails. I am very disappointed with the level of service and the lack of willingness to fix the issues with my nails. As a paying customer, I expected better. The technician was unprofessional and showed a lack of concern for the quality of their work. Overall, I would not recommend SugarCoat Nail Bar to anyone looking for a quality nail salon experience. read more

I don't post reviews but I had to for this one. I had the worst customer experience at this nail salon. The manicure was not a manicure. They didn't file or shape any of the nails. The girl simply cut my nails completely short where it hurt my hand (see pointer finger in second picture). Then, the same girl used the base coat and then wiped it off abruptly with a towel saying I need to pay. Lastly, her paint job was terrible. I walked away with nail polish on my skin. My partner and I stopped here for a birthday weekend spa treat. We both got pedicures and I got a manicure too. In total, it came out to ~$80, which is about the average price for those services. Some places also do parrafin wax treatments within that price, but here it was $5-10 extra. The technicians were very nice and allowed my partner to stay in his massage chair for as long as he liked until my manicure was done. Good experience! read more
