The feel and aesthetic of this shop is neater, cleaner and cuter than most shops, but you can do better if you're looking to get your nails done. Overpriced for mediocre service and experience. I came for SNS w/ express manicure added, and a polish change on my toes. SNS is 45 and express mani is an extra 10, but it turns out that the only thing the express mani entails is placing your hands in warm water for 3 minutes and clipping away your cuticles. Really?? They didn't slap on any cuticle oil, no lotion at the end, nothing! Not to mention the lady cutting far too much of two of my cuticles. When I told her they were burning after painting whatever base coats and bonding liquid on my nail, she didn't do or say anything in response. And she bumped into my cuticles with that extra sharp drill about 5 times! Never a 'sorry' or anything, just jerking my finger back towards her when I jumped after getting knicked with it. I picked a glittery dip with no color but she insisted that I needed to have a soft white underneath in order for the glitter pieces to stick. I found out that this wasn't true because my mom came with me and got a diff shade of glitter, same kind as me , and her tech did not do the bottom layer of color. I'm not a fan of how it looks with the white - it was just a preference of hers that she told me she HAD to do. Clearly it wasn't necessary. **I brought this up after paying and they DID offer a free redo appointment since I didn't like it, but in order for it to be free, it has to be done by the same nail tech as before. My cuticles that she cut a lot of are still sore and burn when I wash my hands, and she wasn't careful with the sharp drill so I am choosing to take the L because I don't want her working on my hands again. I didn't realize the polish change for my toes was 15 dollars but whatever. I got French tips which is an extra 10. So 25 dollars for y'all to paint a small white strip over the tips of my toenails?? Sugarcoat is nestled in the middle of Vinings jubilee. I walked in on a Friday afternoon hoping to get a regular pedicure. They were able to accommodate me immediately. It was quaint and clean. While I was getting my pedicure done, different women came and went and you could tell they were regulars here. I took that as a great sign. Earlier this year, I visited Sugarcoat from one of my very rare nail treatments. (I've had under 10 in my whole life.) I did not call ahead and was a walk-in, but the staff was able to give me a pedicure after a very short wait. I was really impressed with how beautiful and clean and bright the interior was, and! And, it didn't smell like strong fumes inside! That was the best part, because I really have a hard time handling strong scents, especially chemical scents. The pedicure was very well done. The polish stayed on for a great length of time. They'll tell u they have time for your appt but you'll still wait 30-45min with absolutely no one communicating why, how long, or an apology for the inconvenience. They also don't do much to create a relaxing environment. People in here working on laptops, on their phones, playing loud games. Not all of the techs are good - some will file your skin along with the nail, so stay alert. And don't expect them to speak to you, they only speak to each other. read more

This place is extremely racist. Before my daily SWEATHOUZ appointment at Vinings, I decided to try this shop. As soon as I walked in the door, the nail techs all but stared at me, and the receptionist didn't even acknowledge me (white girl, long curly brown hair). The receptionist was SO rude! I thought she was having a bad day but apparently I was the only one she couldn't smile at, considering she kindly greeted every other person (non black) who came in. Her tone was snappy and full of attitude upon my asking of simple questions. She acted like she didn't even want to speak to me! A RECEPTIONIST!! Next, I get seated and waited around 15 minutes for a nail tech despite having an appointment. My nail tech (tall, skinny Asian man) also had zero concept of customer service. I felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable. He acted like he didn't even want to do my nails, or answer my questions. The final straw was when the Boba vendor (shorter Asian woman with small daughter) passed her menu around to EVERYONE in the nail salon except me!! How rude, I mean...do Black people not like Boba?! Anyways, I tell the guy I'm just gonna do a soak off, he writes the ticket, and when I go to pay the rude receptionist had the nerve to try and charge me $40. When I ask, why a soak off is $40, she says "let me go ask", gets up, LOCKS THE DOOR OF THE SALON, PUTS A CHAIR IN FRONT, and goes to the back. Are they serious? How racist do you have to be to assume a black woman is gonna run off on a SOAK OFF!!! LOL. She fixes the price back to $20 and says it was "her mistake" smh. When I go to leave I had to remove the chair myself and unlock the door. How unprofessional and disgusting. If you're a woman of color, do yourself a favor and NEVER come here, you are not welcome. Not one person smiled at me, greeted me, nor extended any customer service. At a time when you're meant to relax, all I felt was negativity and discomfort. I've never felt so unwelcome in a nail salon. I'm disappointed that in this day and age, people still treat black women like this. However, what goes around comes around! I received a Fiji pedicure Saturday. My appointment was at 1pm, but at 12:45 asked if I could come at 1:30 because they were short staffed. I didn't mind, but I got there at 1:30 and didn't get serviced until 2:15. I soaked in lukewarm water from 2:15 - 2:35. The water got so cold while waiting, I drained it and refilled it with hot water. When I finally did get helped, I was relieved the pedicure was good. The nail technician was nice, not too chatty, and took her time with my service. I will go back and recommend on one condition. Management has to deep clean the hell out of the Vinings location. The seats were stained, the pillows had not been washed and while the bowls were disinfected after each use (I saw with my own eyes), the exteriors were a mess. The bathroom was spotless, so I know it can be done. I'm moving to the neighborhood and need a new salon, but Sugarcoat will only be used in case of emergencies. read more

I just moved to the area & wanted to find my go to salon... Sugarcoat seemed so promising, but I was really let down. I booked my appointment online for SNS & manicure, plus a pedicure with gel polish. I received multiple texts/emails confirming my appointments. When I got there & checked in they only acknowledged my pedicure appointment & acted inconvenienced when I said I also had an SNS/mani appointment scheduled. Kelly was my technician and she was friendly enough at first, but I truly felt like she could have cared less about what she was doing. She started with my pedicure & right off the bat it was clear she was rushing. She clipped the skin around my toes (not my cuticle) and when I flinched (because OW) she just kept going. When she put the UV light on my feet it wasn't steady & kept sliding over my nails. Luckily there weren't any chips in the polish, but damn! Slow down! Next was my mani...... I have never felt like less of a priority. She used the mail drill to file/buff my nails but was moving so quickly that my cuticles were burning. When it came to applying the SNS, it was a mess. The application was not smooth and got clumped under my nails. She game me a mani & cleaned my cuticles, but when she did the final buffing with the drill she burned them again & they got frayed... and she left them like that!!! I would have said something but at this point I just wanted to leave. I knew I wasn't going to get a good service & I planned to just clean my cuticles at home. Myself. After paying someone to do it. As I was leaving she looked at me and said "I do eyebrows too so if you want me to clean yours up let me know." First of all, I know a lot of nail techs say this, but can we all just acknowledge how RUDE that question is in general? Secondly, after how rushed you were with my nails do you think I'm going to let you near my FACE with hot wax?! Absolutely not. I left and I'm not kidding, the NEXT DAY one of my nails chipped. In less than 1 week I had 3 chipped nails. I get SNS specifically to avoid quick chipping!! The application of the shellac makes alllll the difference, and this application was half-assed at best. I'm giving 3 stars as a generosity because while I had a bad experience, the place was packed with ladies who were clearly regulars so maybe the other techs are better. read more

The establishment is nicely decorated and quite clean. Today is my 4th and last visit here. My first time was for a manicure with Liam which was wonderful! He is amazing! The second time I was unable to book Liam - probably because he is so good - so I had a very nice lady, but she kept trying to fix me up with her friend and the gel started peeling off 2 days later. The third time I was able to get Liam when I booked online for a manicure and pedicure. I go to the appointment the the receptionist - who I don't think has ever smiled a day in her life - sent me to the pedicure chair and then sent over two girls to do the manicure & pedicure. I advised that I had booked with Liam. She advised me that the male technicians don't do pedicures on men because it makes them uncomfortable. I insisted that she ask Liam if he would do it. She walked over, asked, he said "Yes". Liam kindly performed the services and I asked him if he was uncomfortable doing so and he responded "Where I worked before I worked in men all the time." This time, I booked with Tom. I walked in and told the girl who is unable to smile that I had an appointment for a manicure & pedicure with Tom. She said that Tom doesn't do pedicures. I told her he was an option online when I booked and she responded "that's just the way it is". Tom did my manicure and it turned out wonderfully. The lady who did my pedicure did a great job as well. I just wish that there wasn't such a hassle each time. I expect that the person I book with performs the services. If you can get Liam or Tom - please go! They are both great. I won't be back simply because the hassle of dealing with all this rigmarole isn't worth it to me. The girl I had didn't speak to me majority of the time. That would have been fine except towards the end it just felt like she was annoyed with me the moment I sat down. She tried picking my nails off with an extension nail tip that made my real nails bend and felt so uncomfortable. I kept flinching. Then she brought out a drill that kept flying around and hitting my nail uncomfortably. I asked that they cut my nails short bc they were super flimsy from the type of gel I had on them before and she looked at me funny. Half my nails are square and others are round or almond shaped. She didn't file them to make them look nice and then left me there with a fan to dry while she went with another coworker to talk and giggle in the back. It felt like they went back there to make fun of my nails bc I had a broken one from slamming it in a car door and asked politely that she didn't file it too much on the top bc it was already cracking. I didn't know whether I was done or not but I ended up getting up and paying. Also one hand has more nail polish on it than the other and my one hand looks almost like it has a clear coat on. She definitely over charged me but I couldn't ask why bc she was on the phone. I've never written a yelp review bc normally I don't care that much if my nails look a little off but the whole experience made me so uncomfortable. I think the girls name was Sadie. I just wanted a nice place to take my nails off but I could have taken them off more efficiently with acetone at home. Lesson learned. If you're looking for a less self conscious experience I would go literally anywhere else. I would recommend Madame Nail Spa (they were closed today which is why I went to sugarcoat). I went for a mani pedi. Since Sugarcoat states that its focus is on natural products I expected Zoya or another brand of polishes, not OPI which is not low toxic. I struggled to find a fun color -- there are 20 shades each of pinks and reds. I finally decided on a bright yellow. That night and every day after the nail polish on my fingers peeled off in big pieces. This is NOT supposed to happen. Even cheap polish applied properly will last for 3-4 days. The polish on my toes also rippled after 24 hours. Either the polish is old or not properly applied. Everyone was friendly so it was a decent experience but disappointing in quality, especially for the price. read more

Best decision I ever made. I wish this was a franchise I could purchase and bring back to Staten Island, NY. Because we need salons as lovely and relaxing as this place. I made an appointment and was very impressed by the cute area it was in. It was clear from the start this place was spic and span, I expected that to come at a high cost. To my surprise $ wise this is comparable to New York but so much nicer than anything we have. After a very very relaxing pedicure for $28 wow reasonable! I decided to make an eyelash appointment. I WISH SO BADLY TO GIVE THIS PLACE NEGATIVE 100 STARS. I came here to get a mani pedi and to relax. Not to be greeted by a rude technician who all she wants to talk about how she hates it there and how horrible it is. Her attitude was Stank to begin with and she was so rough on my nails that they wore still sore hours after leaving the shop. I may not speak the language but I Know when someone is talking about me. All I asked was to change the color of the polish. And it's not like the color was already on my nails. IT WASNT!! And she sighs and turns to her coworker and says something with attitude about me in her language. And the nails weren't even good! Some had so many air bubbles in them!! As I'm paying in the front she comes up and grabs the ticket that I've already signed and says "no tip?" HOW UNPROFESSIONAL AND MONEY HUNGRY!!! I Was going to leave a small cash tip but after that I just said no and left. I will Never come back to this shop as long as Kelly is working there. Ruined my whole mood. Sugarcoat Vinings is my favorite place to get manicures and pedicures. It's located in the Vinings Jubilee, so there is lots of safe, free parking. I'd recommend making an appointment because they do get busy, but walk ins are accepted too. The space is bright, clean, and very stylish. I have been coming here for a couple years now and the experience has always been fantastic. I usually get my nails done by Fuong, who is incredible. She is especially great at shaping nails (from the basics like square or oval to the more complicated almond or stiletto). She always explains new color collections and she and the other girls make great color suggestions tailored to each client's style preferences. I am a big fan of gel manicures here. My nails have never been more healthy and strong (they will also properly remove gel polish, so your nails are not harmed). They also offer regular manicures, scrubs, pink and whites, wraps, and acrylics. There is a huge selection of Essie, opi, Gellish, and their own line of polish. All of it is beautifully organized and easy to navigate. Additionally, pedicures here are wonderful. Waxing and eyelash services are also available. Prices are super reasonable and there are several different types of manis, pedis, and combos - from "express" to "escape to Fiji" available. There's a big wall with all the prices-- no surprises! My go to is the essential mani, which includes a little massage. With the gel, it is $38. Overall, it's an experience I enjoy every time and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fabulous mani or pedi! read more

Terrible. I had Kelly as my tech and this service was felt so rushed that I felt like I was being a nuisance even being there. I guess one of her appointments were waiting for her and it would've been better if she didn't take me in than to take me. It was not enjoyable at all, the massage was half assed and she was not friendly at all. She made me feel like I was being a hassle, again I would've rather her not take me. When I asked for her to even the shape a little more, she just rolled her eyes and said something to the tech next to her in Vietnamese. Joy was my technician and she was absolutely amazing! I have been searching all over Smyrna and Vinings for a good nail salon as I am very picky about my gel manicures. Joy was fantastic and I really enjoyed my time with her. My manicure is flawless and she did my nail art EXACTLY like the photo I showed her.
