I've tried to eat here several times, hoping for improvement with the food. Sadly it continues to disappoint. From their breakfast to dinner. Tonight we ordered breakfast and the sausages dried out, bacon even seemed old. I ordered the beef tips which were good but my sides were cold. The wait staff are very friendly but overworked which leads to long wait times when ordering and receiving you order. Went to Sugar Shack Cafe in early October. Probably will never go back. The special that day was beef tips. I ordered them a few minutes later the waitress came back and said they were out of them. So I ordered Mac and cheese. No flavor. My husband ordered a stir fry which was not good. As we were waiting for our food I heard someone order the beef tips..and that actually had them. I went to the ladies room and there was something spilled all over the hall floor and the toilet in the ladies room was over flowing. read more

Have been here twice now. The first time was fine but today was unfortunately very bad. Waiter was incredibly slow. Didn't offer us more coffee or check on our drinks at all. Food took a long time and then brought out cold. Cold eggs, cold suasage and gravy, cold fries, cold pancakes. Pancakes were incredibly dry and when asking for extra syrup it was $2.00 per portion. Cook staff "forgot" to put chocolate chips in chocolate chip pancake and threw some on top, bacon cheeseburger had no bacon. I came here when I was up to visit some friends. We waited 15 minutes before getting a table and then another 15 minutes just for the waitress to make our drink order. I had ordered an old fashion and the bartended had to ask me how to make it! I have never experienced a bartended at a bar that doesn't know how to make a simply drink. The kicker? It was $13! At this point I was already over this place, but then we're told it's going to be over an hour to get our food because they were so backed up. We decided to get the check and go somewhere else. Glad this restaurant has hung on through a tough year and a half; kudos for keeping at it. Convenient to our short-term stay in town, we ID'd our dinner spot through Yelp and had high hopes. But sending a server out to share that news 10+ minutes after accepting the order is a lost star before the meal even happens. And this meal, while stellar in part, did not shine. The bright spots on the plates were the spicy shrimp (Caesar salad), the tangy steak (tacos), and a zippy jalapeño aioli (tacos). They each delivered admirably as top-billed players in their dishes. Supporting parts underperformed: Was that really iceberg lettuce, not romaine, under the shrimp? What was it coated with? Caesar? Really? And why did the fries feel only slightly warm to the touch when they reached the table? Props for plenty-big drink jars. Pity that tacos aren't offered with a corn tortilla option. This has been a gem since it's opening, the prior business was blah, but this one has been a great staple of the community that I've enjoyed watching flourish; they actively catered free meals to the elderly during the peak of the pandemic, and organized community involvement in delivering meals. Set off the main road, this quaint rural restaurant has a menu consisting of mostly Americanized items, most notably (in my humble opinion) their breakfast. It's not so much that it's overly done, but that it's done right! Highly suggest their French toast! Their deserts are great as well. Oh boy, this was the worst. I'm giving it 2 stars because my husband didn't absolutely hate his breakfast. We've lived in town for 3 days and this was our first breakfast. Ugh. Looking forward to trying everywhere else. So we placed our entire drink and food order right then, then proceeded to wait the longest amount of time I've ever waited for breakfast. My husband ordered eggs Benedict, with the eggs poached medium, The response was they might be out of poached eggs. This confounded me a bit, the poached eggs are made ahead of time and can't be made to order? Weird. But okay. I ordered a tomato and onion omelette with pepper jack cheese. I'm not exactly sure what kind of cheese I received, but I received and onion omelet. The home fries We're okay, but they had these random big pieces of pepper and onion in them which was unexpected. We wanted to order a sandwich to go but he dropped off the food and ran away so fast we weren't able to say anything. And then I went searching and searching and searching for him two or three times and I had a hard time finding him, so we never placed our order to go. The omelette like the eggs and cheese were disgusting, tasted like it wasaa cooked on a griddle that hadn't been cleaned in a while. They didn't look dirty like it was on a dirty griddle, it just had a weird taste so I'm assuming. Witnessed discrimination as everyone around was waited on and served, yet the African American man sitting near us received his ginger-ale and then absolutely no food or interaction by the waitress after that. One woman addressed the waitress and inquired why that man hadn't received his food, and the waitress completely ignored the question. The man finally just asked what he owed for his ginger-ale and the waitress again ignored him. He looked at the menu and left as much for a tip as the ginger-ale cost, generous for such horrible treatment. The food was just ok. Root vegetables were advertised for NYE, but were not available. They were also out of Chardonnay and Pinot Gris at 5pm. Won't go back and do not recommend. read more
