Very very dissatisfied & disappointed. I ordered two super beef deconstructed sandwiches & onion rings to take back home to Old orchard beach. What I opened up was two super beef sandwiches that were well done, flavorless & not rare like they should be. A north shore 4 way sandwich should never be well done. I'm more than pissed,I just spent $60.00 plus an $9.00 tip. The only good part of my order was the very kind woman who took my order. I'm expecting a refund on my sandwiches that clearly should have been rare not well done. I'll be calling George & to express my disappointment. I've eaten north shore 4 ways probably a dozen times from multiple restaurants. Never once until today has the roast beef been nothing but a perfect rare. Kept waters and beers topped off. she was very talkative and the conversations with her were pleasant and felt natural. Ambiance/atmosphere: small, quiet, and rugged in the best way. This was by far one of my favorite bites on the trip to Portland and I ended up ordering their sandwich with 8oz of perfect medium rare(standard) roast beef, melted American, onion bun, in house made hot barbecue sauce, and mayo 6 times. It was incredible and a definite recommend if you're into big, messy, juicy, incredible sandwiches. The cheesesteak sandwich was great too. A soft toasted roll packed with meat and melty cheese. I remembered when they used to have their food truck up by the breweries on Industrial Way. Was excited to finally go visit their restaurant location. We once tried on a Saturday night, but we learned they sell out of beef some Saturdays so by evening they may be out (they are closed Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays). So call ahead on Saturday late lunch end evenings to be safe. This time we went 11:30am Saturday to ensure we could try. Plenty of free parking in the back, back and front entrance. We walked in and wasn't sure what to do but they said we could order up front or just sit and they will take our order. We split the Super Beef and onion rings. I knew the beef sandwich was going to be good. Onion roll, slightly toasted with butter, mayo and we murdered it (Extra sauce). The onion rings were a nice surprise. Reminds me of Varsity in Atlanta (iykyk). The seasonings on them soo good. Sriracha ranch to dip was good as well. We only had water but they have lots of beers, seltzers in bottles. I think a few cocktails as well. Definitely a fun spot to visit. Yummy food. I want to try the Steak & Cheese next as the pics looked good and a few people ordered those while we dined in. I got the Super Beef, eight ounces of meat, and added the mushrooms, peppers, and onions to it. It was worth it. It really brought the whole sandwich out. The meat itself was tasty. The staff was very friendly and it was a cozy restaurant although I got mine to go. The pricing was off and I was charged a couple extra dollars but it was late and I just wanted to eat. This place is the real deal! They are know for their roast beef but the fried chicken sand & steak n cheese are fantastic! The onion roll is delicious. The chicken is cooked perfectly in a nice crunchy coating. The steak sand was loaded with meat. Just the right amount of bread. The onion rings are the best I've ever had. Our first time here and we were a little confused what to do when we entered. I wished they had signs and menus when you entered in the back door. An example would be, when you decide what you want go to the bar to order. I think that would help a lot of new customers like us! The lady at the bar was very nice. When she saw us she yelled, menu's are on the tables! We sat and watched others to get the drift of how to order. We noticed the one sign at the bar, order here. I got in line and when it was my turn I ordered and paid. She said they would call my name when my order was ready. My name was called and I went to pick up our lunch. The food was hot and very good. We've visited G&L's 3 times now and we've yet to be disappointed. The meat is always so.gosh.darn.FRESH! I didn't know how good rare roast beef could be until I tried George and Leon's (A*by's could never). But beyond the amazing food, the vibes here are immaculate. There is a sort of horror film theme to the decor, the staff is a little in the punk rock side (which is v entertaining), and I love their various themed nights, events, and social media presence. They have a "Fred Durst Friday" deal where you get $3 rose. Or go for trivia on Wednesdays! Recently they had a movie where they showed the Disney live action classic, Heavy Weights. Ok, whenever you can give me the vibes of home with a roast beef sandwich here in the great state of Maine, then you have peaked my interest fully! I love the story of this place of where they started in a food tuck all the way to this point. I had the Super with the MAC sauce on it that was just perfect on the rare side and was full of flavor with the pickle and onion roll that is was placed on. I also got the broccoli bites that were served piping hot with a side of siracha mayo and it was delicious. The staff was super friendly and the music that they had going was amazing with the Dropkick Murphys jamming on the speakers. After hearing about this place on North Shore Beefs Facebook group I decided to drive a hour to give it a try . We ordered 2 super beef three ways , 1 onion ring and 1 broccoli cheese bites . Everything was great ! The beef was huge ! I was full half way into it ! Cool horror theme going on . Good music ! Friendly staff ! Cool vibe ! I don't drink soda so a nice lemonade would have been nice . Ask for extra napkins and utensils if needed . We will be back ! Lots of good to say about this place and a couple of less-good, so I'll start with that.... For me, the music selection playing was off-putting (heavy rock/metal). I ate in the restaurant and was conscious of my stress level rising because of it. It also made it hard to hear the hostess explain the menu, which contributed to me mis-ordering my food. They don't yet have table service so when it's busy expect a line to order that competes with those picking up take out orders. The staff is welcoming and quite friendly. The food is - in a word - outstanding. I ordered the roast beef sandwich and onion rings. Perhaps a bit pricey but absolutely worth it. For those familiar with north shore Massachusetts it's better than Kelly's RB. Fresh and made to order. Spot on seasoning. It is messy to eat but there are plenty of napkins on hand. Wouldn't want it any other way. If you want BBQ sauce on your sandwich then be sure to order the super beef or jr beef. I accidentally ordered the super Mac which has their version of Big Mac sauce. It was good, but I prefer BBQ sauce. They graciously gave me a side of BBQ sauce and let me say that the sauce is EXACTLY the type/flavor that I like on RB sandwiches - Mmmm. Food and staff: 5 stars. I ordered online to go, which was easy enough. It does charge you a small service fee of $2-3 for online ordering. Thought that was kind of weird and hadn't experienced that before from a restaurant. (No, I didn't use doordash either. I picked it up my self). They even send you a text/email letting you know which steps they are on for when the food is ready. My food was ready within good timing, 15-20 minutes. When I walked in, I wasn't really greeted or anything. I just saw my bag on the side counter and asked if it was okay for me to grab it. Inside has tables to dine in at instead of taking it togo. The food was still warm and tasted good. I was just really hoping for more of a maple flavor taste on the chicken. Or possibly if they used that as a sauce more than the mayo instead. My sandwich had a ton of mayo on it. Which I think drowned that out for me. I wanted to love this place. Growing up in the north shore (Salem/Beverly area), I was excited to have 'north shore beef' now that I live in Maine. Unfortunately, this was not it. Not even close. I tried a junior today. The beef is sliced thin, but it's way too thin, so much that when piled on the sandwich it looked like raw ground pork or hamburger all smooshed together. I love a good rare beef, but this...this just didn't look right. There were also several random strips of straight fat that I pulled out of my sandwich. The top of the bun was grease city. The bun was toasted, but the bottom was so crispy and thin it literally broke in half on my first bite, and I got the sense that maybe it wasn't that fresh? Almost crumbled with the rest of the sandwich. I didn't finish the sandwich after giving 4 chance bites. Couldn't do it. Just this persons opinion but it would have been nice to have had as an example those crispy onions lightly salted where the sauce could be the added kick. The non-salt items added to the seasoning mix was not needed and just too much.
