Another outstanding experience at what is fast becoming one of my favorite places to grab some excellent food and libations!!! This time we had more time so we got to play some pinball, have some apps and some cocktails-and once again food and service was excellent (thank you Kate!!!)!! Over the course of approx 2 hours we tried the chicken fingers and the fried pickles, both were excellent-had a few beers and I even enjoyed their Aperol Spritz!! Of course we got our favorite entrees (The Jr Beef for her and the Steak and Cheese with Peppers and Onion for me) and I am happy to say they killed it again!!!! read more

Yet another fantastic visit to George & Leon's! It had been a little while since we have visited but with it being so close decided to have dinner here. Showed up before any sort of rush and snagged two seats at the bar. The overall vibes are great here with lots of interesting decor (lots of movie & horror themed things). The bartender greeted us and was willing to answer any questions we had and immediately got us glasses of water. We then decided on cocktails and she made great tasty drinks to our liking. My wife went with a Daiquiri and had just enough fruity/sweetness with a kick still. I got one of their bourbon drinks and it had a great kick to it. Food wise I ended up getting their Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and it was a delicious sandwich with juicy chicken. My wife got the Jr. Beef and enjoyed it but thought the sauce was a touch spicy (would likely pick another item next time) but very much enjoyed it and finished it still. We split an order of onion rings and they were outstanding, lightly battered but perfectly crispy. Due to sitting at the bar we had fantastic conversations with the bartender who made us feel welcome and provided great service. We talked about our love for animals, Maine and more. Really the perfect example of how the experience of sitting at a bar should be and why you'd return! Give George & Leon's a try if you haven't and if it's been awhile revisit! read more

Stopped by George and Leon's in Portland for lunch and had the Junior beef with the homemade onion rings, and it absolutely hit the spot. The beef was tender, flavorful, and piled just right, with plenty of sauce to make every bite satisfying without being too much. The onion rings were a standout--crispy, golden, and clearly homemade, with great seasoning and a fresh taste you do not get everywhere. This was one of those simple, classic meals done really well. Good portions, great flavor, and exactly the kind of local spot you hope to find when you are in town. I would gladly order this again. read more

Very very dissatisfied & disappointed. I ordered two super beef deconstructed sandwiches & onion rings to take back home to Old orchard beach. What I opened up was two super beef sandwiches that were well done, flavorless & not rare like they should be. A north shore 4 way sandwich should never be well done. I'm more than pissed,I just spent $60.00 plus an $9.00 tip. The only good part of my order was the very kind woman who took my order. I'm expecting a refund on my sandwiches that clearly should have been rare not well done. I'll be calling George & to express my disappointment. I've eaten north shore 4 ways probably a dozen times from multiple restaurants. Never once until today has the roast beef been nothing but a perfect rare. From now on I will be forever ordering my sandwiches from Roasty's in Portland, Maine. George & Leon's you let me down big time read more

Service: very nice and welcoming waitress, especially being a group of tourists. Kept waters and beers topped off. she was very talkative and the conversations with her were pleasant and felt natural. Ambiance/atmosphere: small, quiet, and rugged in the best way. This place you could tell has been around a long time and caters mostly to the usuals, but I'm so glad we went. Food: the super beef was absolutely delicious. This was by far one of my favorite bites on the trip to Portland and I ended up ordering their sandwich with 8oz of perfect medium rare(standard) roast beef, melted American, onion bun, in house made hot barbecue sauce, and mayo 6 times. It was incredible and a definite recommend if you're into big, messy, juicy, incredible sandwiches. The cheesesteak sandwich was great too. A soft toasted roll packed with meat and melty cheese. Unlike most bar type establishments this place didn't hold back on the things that counted. Meat was plentiful and juicy while having a great flavor. The sandwich had a nice spice to it. read more

Amazing as always! I have NEVER had a bad meal here and today is no different. Love the staff they are always friendly and wonderful! For a spooky, classic horror movie fan the ambiance is always fun!! Today I had their special The Offering!! It is grilled roast beef topped with mushroom gravy and onions! It is a sub and I am amazed I demolished it all on my own!! The roll oh my it was so fresh and perfect for the sandwich!! The husband got their steak and cheese which also is always delicious! Thanks again for another stellar meal. read more

For what they do, nobody does it better. It's a crazy, funky place, that might not suit all diners, but I really can't imagine that there is a better roast beef sandwich in the greater Portland area. The bread, the meat, the sauce, the service - all are exceptionally good. Even more remarkably, they also manage a delectable chicken sandwich! Give it a try - and if you don't come out of there smiling, you probably should be a vegan! read more

I remembered when they used to have their food truck up by the breweries on Industrial Way. Was excited to finally go visit their restaurant location. We once tried on a Saturday night, but we learned they sell out of beef some Saturdays so by evening they may be out (they are closed Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays). So call ahead on Saturday late lunch end evenings to be safe. This time we went 11:30am Saturday to ensure we could try. Plenty of free parking in the back, back and front entrance. We walked in and wasn't sure what to do but they said we could order up front or just sit and they will take our order. We split the Super Beef and onion rings. I knew the beef sandwich was going to be good. Onion roll, slightly toasted with butter, mayo and we murdered it (Extra sauce). The onion rings were a nice surprise. Reminds me of Varsity in Atlanta (iykyk). The seasonings on them soo good. Sriracha ranch to dip was good as well. We only had water but they have lots of beers, seltzers in bottles. I think a few cocktails as well. Definitely a fun spot to visit. Yummy food. I want to try the Steak & Cheese next as the pics looked good and a few people ordered those while we dined in. Also the loaded beef fries sound yummy too! Just a note as I'm not familiar with this location. When you exit it's a one way street, so make sure you turn right out of there. read more

Food is excellent! Roast beef had a great sauce and was loaded with roast beef. The chicken sandwich and chicken tendies were big and juicy. The onion rings were phenomenal with a chipotle sauce that was the bomb. The service was friendly and efficient. When you go there, be sure to check out the bathroom decor. I give up. I have tried this place multiple times now and there is never any consistency. I ordered the cheeseburger sub today and it was so drowned in "sauce" that it was disgusting and impossible to eat. I do not see us returning. read more

I got the Super Beef, eight ounces of meat, and added the mushrooms, peppers, and onions to it. It was worth it. It really brought the whole sandwich out. The meat itself was tasty. The staff was very friendly and it was a cozy restaurant although I got mine to go. The pricing was off and I was charged a couple extra dollars but it was late and I just wanted to eat. The last thing I would say is at its price point, even if there wasnt an error, it should have come with a small side of fries or something included. read more

This place is the real deal! They are know for their roast beef but the fried chicken sand & steak n cheese are fantastic! The onion roll is delicious. The chicken is cooked perfectly in a nice crunchy coating. The steak sand was loaded with meat. Just the right amount of bread. The onion rings are the best I've ever had. Fries are crunchy and have a nice seasoning. Our service was excellent! The beverages they have are a great assortment of beers, seltzers, wine & mixed drinks. Our first time here and we were a little confused what to do when we entered. I wished they had signs and menus when you entered in the back door. An example would be, when you decide what you want go to the bar to order. I think that would help a lot of new customers like us! The lady at the bar was very nice. When she saw us she yelled, menu's are on the tables! We sat and watched others to get the drift of how to order. We noticed the one sign at the bar, order here. I got in line and when it was my turn I ordered and paid. She said they would call my name when my order was ready. My name was called and I went to pick up our lunch. The food was hot and very good. Our favorite were the onion rings. Freshly made and a delicious sauce served with them. It is a busy place! read more

The Super Beef is legit. Worth all of $19. Reminds me of the North Shore. Nothing locally compares.

We've visited G&L's 3 times now and we've yet to be disappointed. The meat is always so.gosh.darn.FRESH! I didn't know how good rare roast beef could be until I tried George and Leon's (A*by's could never). But beyond the amazing food, the vibes here are immaculate. There is a sort of horror film theme to the decor, the staff is a little in the punk rock side (which is v entertaining), and I love their various themed nights, events, and social media presence. They have a "Fred Durst Friday" deal where you get $3 rose. Or go for trivia on Wednesdays! Recently they had a movie where they showed the Disney live action classic, Heavy Weights. Who said all the cool spots had to be in Portland? Westbrook definitely has it going on, and G&L's is part of that movement. read more

Ok, whenever you can give me the vibes of home with a roast beef sandwich here in the great state of Maine, then you have peaked my interest fully! I love the story of this place of where they started in a food tuck all the way to this point. I had the Super with the MAC sauce on it that was just perfect on the rare side and was full of flavor with the pickle and onion roll that is was placed on. I also got the broccoli bites that were served piping hot with a side of siracha mayo and it was delicious. The staff was super friendly and the music that they had going was amazing with the Dropkick Murphys jamming on the speakers. The decor also had a horror film vibe with chainsaws and Freddy Krugers layered throughout. If you like Roast beef sandwiches and are sick of trying the Arby's route, check this place out in Westbrook. So glad this place is here. read more

My favorite new sandwich place! Old school North Shore type roast beef sandwiches piled high on a sturdy bun with all the proper fixings! Add in fantastic onion rings, so good they are still great even when delivered ( by Carhop). You really can't go wrong! Don't like roast beef? Try anything with their fried chicken tenders, they are above and beyond, huge with a perfect crispy crust. All this comes with a huge parking lot, and fun decor! read more

Owner is very immature and can not take criticism. The food was bland, nothing stayed breaded, flavorless and the owner, after seeing a Facebook review I did, DMed me and basically complained to me about my review. 5/10/24-WHAT just happened George's North Shore. You got my order wrong, not once but twice. Sauce only on the side. Go in,have a beer at counter with my husband while we wait for 89$ order,100 with tip. Drive to sons with dinner-all wrong. Call, return wrong sandwiches (35min drive r/t)get new sandwiches. Son checks them in car,all wrong. Calls them & is told we aren't welcome anymore & they will refund $(I paid cash).Really?? We spend over 100/month here-we didn't want anything more than a correct order & now you don't want our business. I'm really disappointed in how this was handled. Update-heard from Logan Abbey George's North Shore aka George & Leon's. Says we were rude to his staff,BS! Every conversation was listened to, wanted what we had paid for. My refund is at the bar. I asked him to give it all $89 to the bartender April as she is the only one there that provided any level of customer service. No,we won't be back & I will continue to tell folks about my experience @George's North Shore aka George & Leon's aka @ Logan Abbey read more

After hearing about this place on North Shore Beefs Facebook group I decided to drive a hour to give it a try . We ordered 2 super beef three ways , 1 onion ring and 1 broccoli cheese bites . Everything was great ! The beef was huge ! I was full half way into it ! Cool horror theme going on . Good music ! Friendly staff ! Cool vibe ! I don't drink soda so a nice lemonade would have been nice . Ask for extra napkins and utensils if needed . We will be back ! This is 5 stars for food but had to knock it down to a 4 due to cleanliness. Super Beef . read more

The Best Roast Beef Sandwich. EVER! Fresh food, very tender roast beef and great sauce.

Lots of good to say about this place and a couple of less-good, so I'll start with that.... For me, the music selection playing was off-putting (heavy rock/metal). I ate in the restaurant and was conscious of my stress level rising because of it. It also made it hard to hear the hostess explain the menu, which contributed to me mis-ordering my food. They don't yet have table service so when it's busy expect a line to order that competes with those picking up take out orders. The staff is welcoming and quite friendly. The food is - in a word - outstanding. I ordered the roast beef sandwich and onion rings. Perhaps a bit pricey but absolutely worth it. For those familiar with north shore Massachusetts it's better than Kelly's RB. Fresh and made to order. Spot on seasoning. It is messy to eat but there are plenty of napkins on hand. Wouldn't want it any other way. If you want BBQ sauce on your sandwich then be sure to order the super beef or jr beef. I accidentally ordered the super Mac which has their version of Big Mac sauce. It was good, but I prefer BBQ sauce. They graciously gave me a side of BBQ sauce and let me say that the sauce is EXACTLY the type/flavor that I like on RB sandwiches - Mmmm. Food and staff: 5 stars. General atmosphere (noise and music) not my style, so one star deduction. I'll come back but will order to go if the music stays the same. read more

George and Leons has amazing food, great staff. The place has an awesome vibe. Highly recommend it.

If you're looking for an authentic shaved roast beef sandwich, you need to try George & Leon's in Westbrook, Maine. What started out as a Massachusetts food truck has been reborn... it really feels like a food truck experience in brick and mortar. Completely self service, order at the bar, pick up from the kitchen, bring back drinks, clean off your table and leave full. Has a "dive bar" feel, and it is nothing fancy. The roast beef is piled thick onto a toasted onion bun, rare and juicy, you can order your sandwich any way you like it. Homemade bbq sauce and real onion rings - cut and battered to order. This, folks, is the real deal. read more

I ordered online to go, which was easy enough. It does charge you a small service fee of $2-3 for online ordering. Thought that was kind of weird and hadn't experienced that before from a restaurant. (No, I didn't use doordash either. I picked it up my self). They even send you a text/email letting you know which steps they are on for when the food is ready. My food was ready within good timing, 15-20 minutes. When I walked in, I wasn't really greeted or anything. I just saw my bag on the side counter and asked if it was okay for me to grab it. Inside has tables to dine in at instead of taking it togo. The food was still warm and tasted good. I was just really hoping for more of a maple flavor taste on the chicken. Or possibly if they used that as a sauce more than the mayo instead. My sandwich had a ton of mayo on it. Which I think drowned that out for me. I do find it a little bit pricey for what you're getting. After tax and the service fee, I ended up paying $28 for just these 2 items. Just wish it had more too it is all. read more

I wanted to love this place. Growing up in the north shore (Salem/Beverly area), I was excited to have 'north shore beef' now that I live in Maine. Unfortunately, this was not it. Not even close. I tried a junior today. The beef is sliced thin, but it's way too thin, so much that when piled on the sandwich it looked like raw ground pork or hamburger all smooshed together. I love a good rare beef, but this...this just didn't look right. There were also several random strips of straight fat that I pulled out of my sandwich. The top of the bun was grease city. The bun was toasted, but the bottom was so crispy and thin it literally broke in half on my first bite, and I got the sense that maybe it wasn't that fresh? Almost crumbled with the rest of the sandwich. I didn't finish the sandwich after giving 4 chance bites. Couldn't do it. The French fries are small batch and made to order, and those were good. read more

I was really looking forward to a roast beef sandwich. Unfortunately, I stayed at Sebago Lake too long, so I was going in right before closing. They were out of beef. Ok, Shroom sub! And onion rings! The onion rings were good, crispy but a little salty. But then I took a bite of the sub. SALTY!! So much salt. Like I literally can not eat it because it has so much salt. Like the mushrooms were soaked in salt water, and then cooked in extra salty butter, and just for good measure, shake some extra salt on it. I'm disappointed. Maybe the cook was salty because he was almost done and I walked in? So he decided to make me salty? I will give it a second try, I want the roast beef, but if that's salty? That will be it. read more
