Absolutely lucked into this place while visiting our daughter at a nearby college. We were headed…read moreto the donut shop next door and saw the sign for the cheese shop. (Certainly a lucky neighborhood) It looks small from the street but once you walk in, it opens up to a sizable store. We were greeted by a friendly staff member, he took the time to describe their cheese selection and the other things going on in the shop. He then pivoted to giving us tons of help selecting the right cheese. We sampled a couple of things and then he dialed in three choices for us to buy. (With an assist from another customer that insisted that we would love the Delice de Bourgogne) Prices were reasonable enough for the quality. We added some gourmet crackers that were neutral enough to not overpower the cheese. The next day, we made the three cheeses the focus of our lunch. The Delice de Bourgogne was the star of the show, a creamy, earthy, and savory masterpiece. The two year aged Gouda and creamy blue cheese were delightful as well! Truly glad that we walked into The Cheese Traveler!

The sweetest souls work here and the animal feeding area/petting zoo is incredible! When you arrive at Taylor Farms, you step into the cute little country store stationed at the beginning of the farm. The store is stocked with farm products like yummy cheeses and icecreams but also food and home products from local businesses like soaps, etc. My daughter picked out a scoop of her favorite VT icecream, maple walnut and wandered the store. I stumbled upon the "feed our animals" station near the store exit. You can buy the farm animals food and feed them yourself! The store associate welcomed us to go see the animals even if we didn't buy any food for them. You could tell she really loved them. We bought a variety pack for the animals which consisted of carrots, an apple, a bag of homemade cheeseits, and chicken feed (corn meal?). My daughter had a ball feeding the donkey, cows, chickens and cat! We had a ball watching her experience new things and support a local farm! We hope to come back someday soon!

Maple Brook Farm / Ploughgate Creamery - Bennington, VT…read more By far one of the best cheese experiences I've ever had, and trust me, I've tried smoked mozzarella from coast to coast. Maple Brook Farm doesn't just smoke their mozzarella, they elevate it. Their Smoked Mozzarella has the perfect balance: smoky whisper, not smoke-blast. It tastes like regular mozzarella that's been kissed by cherrywood, not drenched in fire. The texture stays true to what real mozzarella should be: light, supple, fresh. Then there's their Smoked Feta, tangy, salty, yet mellow with the same elegant smoke tone. It's not an afterthought, it's a counterpart, a partner in the cheese orchestra. All their cheeses are top-tier. I'm lucky enough to get them at the Brooklyn Market (Washington Park, Sundays between 4th-5th & 5th-6th), and every bite reminds me why this place deserves more than a 5-star rating. If you love cheese that's handcrafted, nuanced, and unapologetically artisanal, do yourself a favor and try Maple Brook Farm.
