a herd of goats

Such a beautiful farm. We were staying at an AirBNB next door at Wayward Goose Farm. Short walk and we loved the fact that we could go in explore the place and buy some cheese! They have this one cheese call the "Experience" and boy, yes it's an experience indeed. We cut into the cheese and it was ooey and gooey and just melted in your mouth. We went back to get some more to take home and they ran out unfortunately. If you ever stop by, I beg you. Go back the "Experience" cheese. They have a path behind the farm where there are tons of goats. It's honestly such a beautiful view.

Love it here. Free…read morecompletely free - no admission fee, no parking fee. Very friendly people. Small business vibes. Follow your maps and once you cross the bridge they have tons of signs to direct you, hard to get lost. Trust they're hours, we showed up in the pouring rain and they're still open 9am-5pm weekdays. As soon as you walk in you'll get free samples. We sampled 5 cheeses and 2 grades of maple syrup - it sells itself. One cheese is made with unpasteurized milk - others include sharp cheddar, sage, smoked. Convinced me to try traveling home with cheese for the first time. Tons of products available for sell including from other farms as well. I recommend picking up some of the Red Kite Candy caramels they have there. If you liked it as much as me their factory is about a 30 min drive away. Other activities include petting animals (not in winter), walking trail, and self guided tour of their maple house. Wasn't able to do the trail in the rain but I would estimate you can do all of this in 2 hours. Not at all like Billings Farm if you're concerned about going to both or only have time for one. Billings has an admission fee, no samples of milk or cheese though the make both. More of a museum but they do have up close interactions with their cows (even in winter) for the kids, butter churning, candle dipping. Recommend Billing for taking kids on homesteading field trip, Sugarbush a quick stop for foodie/charcuterie person IMPORTANT: They do NOT sell sugarbush products at any of the stores in Woodstock so don't plan to buy more later and have regrets like us - we looked in every store and couldn't find it. Not sure about Quechee though. Products can also be ordered online and shipped

Weather got a little hariy getting there with the slushy roads, but we made it! It's pretty remote location with no street lights, so if driving in the dark look for the signs to get there and trust your GPS. There's a large parking lot across from the entrance to the little store/shop. The shop is actually the owners old family home I belive. We arrived pretty much at closing time, but we were still welcomed warmly. We got a cheese & maple syrup tasting which was yum and informative, and the staff member that did it was really nice, I forgot her name, but see photo below. One of the cheeses has won a cheese competition, very cool. We also got to meet the owner, but she was busy getting Christmas orders together. I perused all of the cheeses I wanted and settled on 4. We got to try 2 out of the 4 from the cheese sampling. The nice lady that checked me out even gave me some nice to-go samples as well. The smoked cheese was my fav, and the sage. But I enjoyed them all. I was able to easily fly home to TX with them due to the cold weather of the season. After the tasting, we got to peruse the store. They have so much other stuff to buy in additon to cheese and maple, tons of knick-knacks and gifts and merch. We didn't get to explore the farm after since it was pitch black when we left, too bad. Enjoy!

If you're not a goat cheese fan....TRY the Kunik. It's seriously the best I've ever had. The "Sappy Ewe" and "Pasco's Ration" aren't cheese slouches, either. They all came home with me and provided friends with a perfect night of snacking and imbibing. And....we still have some left. Yay! They also have pre-made mac and cheese (yes...we snagged one of those as well) which was available for tasting. There are several other products that I didn't get a chance to taste or purchase, but I'll definitely be back. Seriously - go get some cheese from Nettle Meadow!!

The weather was fine but everything muddy. Aside from a brochure in the tiny (8x10?) "cheese shop", there wasn't much information on what they did. We quickly walked around to see the buildings and animals, and also purchased a couple of cheese things. However, there wasn't much to do and i was pretty bored. Perhaps when the weather was nicer, or if there was a tour guide or something, I would have gotten more out of it. Speaking of getting out... it was very muddy and a tour bus got stuck while we were there. Be warned.

How is it that I didn't do a review the last time I visited the Hitching Post?…read more We enjoyed our first visit so much that we brought back different friends for a delightful cheese excursion. I didn't think it was possible ....but this time it was even better. It seems that they have expanded the menu and everything we ordered was exceptional. They started us off with a big chunk of their award-winning KUNIK cheese, accompanied by jalapeño cornbread and focaccia. (I could have made a meal of just this!!) Our giant charcuterie was the "Champion" and it was almost too pretty to eat. Almost. We chomped down on a variety of soft and hard cheeses made locally with some fruit slices, crackers, and spreads. Absolutely wonderful. The fig jam is ridiculously good, too. There is a fine selection of adult beverages and nonalcoholic choices. Desserts looked great, but we didn't indulge since we each ALSO had our own entrée. I had the special grilled cheese of the day and couldn't finish it....looking forward to heating that up at home. Rave reviews on the soup flight, shepherds pie, and chicken pot pie. The ambience is casual, rustic and very Adirondack. Service was wonderful last night. Jess really hustled and was one of the best servers I've come across in a long time. Super friendly, helpful and just overall awesome. There's a shop onsite so that you can grab a bunch of items to re-live the decadent cheese experience at home. Lots of other cool stuff available as well. Can't wait to come back.

(Certainly a lucky neighborhood) It looks small from the street but once you walk in, it opens up to a sizable store. We were greeted by a friendly staff member, he took the time to describe their cheese selection and the other things going on in the shop. He then pivoted to giving us tons of help selecting the right cheese. We sampled a couple of things and then he dialed in three choices for us to buy. (With an assist from another customer that insisted that we would love the Delice de Bourgogne) Prices were reasonable enough for the quality. We added some gourmet crackers that were neutral enough to not overpower the cheese. The next day, we made the three cheeses the focus of our lunch. The Delice de Bourgogne was the star of the show, a creamy, earthy, and savory masterpiece. The two year aged Gouda and creamy blue cheese were delightful as well! Truly glad that we walked into The Cheese Traveler!

We appreciated the relatively local (Quebec, VT, NY) cheeses they have, and our destination cheese, Wisconsin Brick (which we had never tried before, and which they were quite willing to work with us on getting the appropriate size). The sandwiches looked delicious but we were there at the wrong time of day, alas, but we will 100% be back. If you like cheese, this is a destination location for the region.
