two horses pulling a sleigh

Today was absolutely magical at Taylor Farms! The horse drawn sleigh ride felt like we were in a hallmark movie. The horses were beautiful and well taken care of, the sleigh had wool blankets and we purchased the s'more's and fresh bread and cheese picnic basket to eat by the fire we stopped at during the sleigh ride. The owner John was our host and he was the sweetest nicest man, he provided us with the history of the farm and his fun personality made it all that much better. His sis MiMi is the voice you will hear as you book your sleigh ride and she was great with explaining the whole process. They have the cutest little country store that we bought a bunch of local made items from. Overall I would rate this a 10, my family and I loved everything about Taylor farms! If you go to southern VT, it is a must to go explore and support this wonderful farm!!

Awesome real working farm. The farm animals roam free and eat lots of hay. :-) They are also super friendly. One of their black horses came right up to us to let us feed or touch him. So cool. He even licked me. Eek...but funny. I got a nice photo of that. This is one minute from the Swiss Inn Hotel where I stayed for my ski trip. It's a family owned and operated farm. They offer fresh honey, cheeses, and groceries in their mini-marketplace. They offer seasonal entertainment ... just check out their FB page or their website for more details. I was here during Presidents Week (Feb. 2017) and while normally freezing in Feb., we lucked out and had nice weather. It was 40 something degrees when I ventured over to the farm. For the Winter months, sleigh rides are offered but reservations recommended given this is their busiest time of the year. The sleighs can hold up to 10 people. Each ride is about 45 minutes with a nice hot cider break; blankets are available on the sleigh for the cold months. The horses that pull the sleigh are so majestic and strong. The farm really takes care of these animals. They all look healthy and have beautifully groomed manes. I would definitely recommend this place as a pit stop while in VT (minutes from Stratton Mountain and Bromley). I bet it's even nicer in the Spring/Summer months. I would totally come back here. Side note: while I was too full to eat the cheese I bought on site, we ate it once we got home and their gouda is the best. It was creamy and milky, and super fresh. Loved it.

This was the highlight of my trip to Vermont. The staff were so friendly and told great stories about the animals. You could get up close to the animals and truly experience a working farm. The best 2$ I ever spent was on feed to feed the chickens, turkeys and cows...SO fun! This was a great stop, I can't wait to go back!

On the ride home from Manchester, I saw a sign for cheese and baked goods at a farm stand and thought, oh lets check that out. So we turned up a dirt road to the Taylor Farm. A large red barn with signs for its offerings was where to go. Inside you could instantly smell the barn smell. I saw some home made baked goods on a wagon in the center. There were big jars of home made chocolate cookies so I got one of them. I also checked out the large selection of organic honey and maple syrup. I needed honey so got a small bottle. They had a good selection of cheeses with samples out at the register. I would of gotten some cheeses but passed cause I was a few hours away from home and couldn't refrigerate them right away. I just noticed they have a website and you can get it online. The lady at the register was pleasant, as was the older gentleman selling wooden spoons. Outside a lazy dog lays enjoying the country life. Just the perfect scene you really appreciate when you come from the city and realize how simple life is for some. I hope to be back for a sleigh ride this winter!

While waiting for the Bromley ski lifts to get fixed, we took a short drive to around the area and stumbled upon Taylor Cheese Farm. There are an array of live chickens dancing outside the shop, and you can buy a cup of feed for $1 and watch them swirl around you anxiously. Inside, there is a selection of cheese, soy-based hygienic goods, and of course, maple syrup! They had small, shot-sized containers of syrup ($4) which would make for perfect souvenirs! When I went, there were two types of syrups left: grade A dark and grade A amber, so I got two of each. They also sold postcards for $1.50! The best part of my experience occurred when I was perusing. I saw a pack of mushroom-themed playing cards that was called "fungi perfecti" and was immediately intrigued. A lady then popped up next to me and said she used to have more for sale, but they sold out during the course of the last few years :( I asked if she knew which mushrooms were edible, and she proceeded to spread out the deck of cards and categorize them based on edibility (is that a word???). I was interested because I had just came from a botany trail and had taken a bunch of pictures of mushrooms. She identified my mushroom as a pearl oyster 'shroom! She was a delightful lady who had been collecting and consuming mushrooms for around 45 years, and we had great conversation about the native flora and mycology. When she went to ring me up for the syrups, she also recommended a barn to rent for the summers when the water is clear. I'm really glad we decided to stop by- thinking about my experience here makes my heart warm!

Such a cute place to visit. They have free feed for the animals inside the store. $1 donation fee. Baby cows, giant pigs that roam the grounds, goats, chickens and horses. On rainy days the grounds do get VERY muddy but a great place to visit!

I knew this was a special place from the moment I walked in the door. A friendly greeting welcomed us as the farmer played his fiddle in the back room. At the farm, they make their own cheese - most of which you can sample at the counter. I liked all the flavors of gouda that I tried, especially the smoked. The store sells a variety of other Vermont classics, such as maple syrup, although they don't make it there. We were invited to walk around the farm and feed the animals. We were even able to see the farmer's daughter milk the cows. Taylor Farm is a 'must-see' if you're in the Bromley area.

My tongue can still remember the distinct nutty and buttery taste of this luscious cheese. Trying to order this great cheese again (seriously one of the best cheeses I have ever eaten in my life and I have tried a variety of different cheeses), I find an error page on the ordering page for timberdoodle. I then attempt to see if I can order directly from Woodcock Farm, but their website is unfortunately down. An AI search result reveals that Woodcock Farm has not shut down but the owners are looking for someone to take over the business. Fingers crossed that the Fischers find someone to take over their operation. It would be a terrible shame for the world to lose such an amazing cheese (among the other amazing cheeses they produce too). Sometimes only poetry can get to the essence of our feelings . . . We visited Woodcock Farm at the recommendation of the Taylor family (of Taylor Family Farm). Here, sheep's milk cheese is the name of the game. We tried a sheep's milk, mixed cow and sheep's milk, blue, and two soft cheeses in the no-fills tasting area. My husband loved them all while I only liked the sheep's milk (never a fan of blues or soft cheeses from anywhere). Little hard to find but great cheese and friendly people making the cheese they themselves love to eat.

The bread and veggies were fresh, the ham was tasty but I was disappointed with the size for the price. There was very little ham and it came with nothing.....for $9.99. Upstairs is the Vermont Toy Museum which is worth a look, even though it feels like it hasn't been updated or dusted in years. The parking lot is huge! We came here because they were the closest spot that sells Cabot cheese since we couldn't get up to the actual Cabot factory. All the reviews talking about the miles of cheese samples were not to be found. They sold some cheeses in the back but it wasn't a very big selection. I also found them to be no different than the Cabot cheese sold in my local grocery store back home in CT. Is that just what Cabot does? Is there nothing special about Cabot when you get it in VT? Cabot signs all over making it know they're an official retailer of Cabot cheese but then no different than a grocery store selection. They have miles of maple syrup to select from but you pretty much just have to blindly choose one since you can't taste any samples. Was really excited about this place but a letdown for sure. May not be any fault of theirs, but I would skip this shop for one that allows samples unless you know what you're buying.

Follow your maps and once you cross the bridge they have tons of signs to direct you, hard to get lost. Trust they're hours, we showed up in the pouring rain and they're still open 9am-5pm weekdays. As soon as you walk in you'll get free samples. We sampled 5 cheeses and 2 grades of maple syrup - it sells itself. One cheese is made with unpasteurized milk - others include sharp cheddar, sage, smoked. Convinced me to try traveling home with cheese for the first time. Tons of products available for sell including from other farms as well. I recommend picking up some of the Red Kite Candy caramels they have there. If you liked it as much as me their factory is about a 30 min drive away. Other activities include petting animals (not in winter), walking trail, and self guided tour of their maple house. Wasn't able to do the trail in the rain but I would estimate you can do all of this in 2 hours. Not at all like Billings Farm if you're concerned about going to both or only have time for one. Billings has an admission fee, no samples of milk or cheese though the make both. More of a museum but they do have up close interactions with their cows (even in winter) for the kids, butter churning, candle dipping. Recommend Billing for taking kids on homesteading field trip, Sugarbush a quick stop for foodie/charcuterie person IMPORTANT: They do NOT sell sugarbush products at any of the stores in Woodstock so don't plan to buy more later and have regrets like us - we looked in every store and couldn't find it. Weather got a little hariy getting there with the slushy roads, but we made it! It's pretty remote location with no street lights, so if driving in the dark look for the signs to get there and trust your GPS. There's a large parking lot across from the entrance to the little store/shop. The shop is actually the owners old family home I belive. We arrived pretty much at closing time, but we were still welcomed warmly. We got a cheese & maple syrup tasting which was yum and informative, and the staff member that did it was really nice, I forgot her name, but see photo below. One of the cheeses has won a cheese competition, very cool. We also got to meet the owner, but she was busy getting Christmas orders together. I perused all of the cheeses I wanted and settled on 4. We got to try 2 out of the 4 from the cheese sampling. The nice lady that checked me out even gave me some nice to-go samples as well. The smoked cheese was my fav, and the sage. But I enjoyed them all. I was able to easily fly home to TX with them due to the cold weather of the season. After the tasting, we got to peruse the store. They have so much other stuff to buy in additon to cheese and maple, tons of knick-knacks and gifts and merch. We didn't get to explore the farm after since it was pitch black when we left, too bad. Enjoy!
