Shisha meeee ALL SUMMER!!!! Sugar N Coal is super cute! Great spot for date night, ladies night and any other type of night you can think of. I made a reservation for a Saturday night at 10pm. As soon as we approached we were met by an employee outside checking ID. After checking we were seated inside. There's a couple of cute 2 seater booths along with larger seating areas with couches. We opted for the Blue Horizon shisha which was problematic. After continuous head changes we still had problems pulling, the flavor was very rough, the bottom of the shisha was very cloudy no matter how much we pulled or didn't. Finally after the 3rd change (which must of been the charm) we were able to get continuous pulls, full of smoke and no harsh sensations. On to the drinks.... The hibiscus pear margarita was good BUT the jalapeño margarita was better! She was strong AND spicy. I mean realllyyyyyyyy spicy.... If spice isn't your thing stay away. They were playing a mix of hip hop, r&b, reggae and today's hits. I had blue mist hookah and they kept changing the coal , which I loved, most places charge extra for coal. I had the Blue Hawaiian & Blue Long Island drinks , strong & good. The cheeseburger egg rolls were yummy but the shrimp quesadila was bland. My only complaint is they weren't attentive to me , I guess because I was alone, I had to keep flagging down the waitress and she kept saying "huh, huh"? My friends and I ordered some apps, and I will say that they seemed like they came from frozen and were not fresh and made to order. While looking for a dessert spot I came across this place on Saturday night. Cute very small but not really... at the same time lol. They have 3 sections the main one you enter seems to be the lounge, where the DJ is and the belly dancers are. It's great and full of energy. The second area are tables seems more like a restaurant then there's the final area where the kitchen and bathroom are more like a spill over seating. (Thats where I was). They were very busy music is a good mix of Caribbean music and top 40 hip hop. Traditional belly dancer tunes and hookah. I wish they would open up the walls. You feel almost sectioned off from the main action of room 1. The belly dancers didn't leave that area. They have a full menu but we came just for the dessert I had the red velvet and oreo milkshake it was very delicious not just 'instagramable.' My cousin had the rashmalai tres leches omg that was so good the Indian flavors elevated the already classic Latin desert. I'd come back here. I really love the wide variety of desserts and the prices are fair! But it's a 3.5 stars for me as it stands (rounded up to 4) because for months they have not had more than half of their dessert menu. I understand completely with COVID everyone is having a hard time but I wish the website/online ordering platforms were updated accordingly so all information was up to date/not misleading about what is actually in store. I've been told it's because the chef is away and it seems indefinitely because no one seems to know when they'll be getting back. The death by chocolate cake shake was actually really good which took me by surprise. Oftentimes with cake shakes you find the cakes to be dry and stale but this was moist and decadent, exactly what a chocolate cake should be! The milkshake itself tasted strongly of Godiva flavored chocolate so it was rich and well balanced. I also had the oreo waffle and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it as I'm fairly indifferent to waffles. The waffle is warm and pillowy and heaped with chocolate sauce, Oreos, and whipped cream. Definitely go with a friend and share because you will not be able to finish a single thing. I've also had their chicken and waffles, rasmalai tres leches, and some other things that I don't recall at this time, but they were all good and I love their creativity with the combinations. Sugar N Coal has been on my radar for a while. Hookah? Dessert? I mean what's not to like! I stopped by around 8pm on Thanksgiving day. There was only two other parties so we were seated right way. We had only come for the hookah, so we asked to sit in the other room which is meant more for hookah vs. sitting at a table. I initially had my eye on the Frozen Lychee Hookah, however, the waiter told me they were out of it. I asked him what the most popular flavors were and he said the Chilled Fruit Loops or Frozen Skittles. We went with the Chilled Fruit Loops (~$26) which is one of their signature flavors. It took about 30 minutes to get our hookah. That's a pretty long time to wait for hookah, especially on a night that they're not busy. The backroom was also pretty stuffy. The AC was off which could have helped a lot with ventilation. We started smoking and the flavor was just okay. I could barely taste anything fruity honestly. None of the flavors were distinct enough that I could taste. We sat there until 10pm which is the time they close now due to the pandemic curfew. They rotated the coals a couple times but there was no real flavor which was super disappointing. They also added an automatic service fee gratuity of 18% just for 2 people. They also charged $1.50 for the disposable pipe. All in all, for 1 hookah, it ended up being ~$35. I really wanted to like this place but I just couldn't get myself to enjoy the ambiance or the hookah. It seems like Sugar N Coal is trying to do too much at once. They have a pretty wide menu but there's no guarantee they'll have everything. I was pretty let down about this place and not super excited to come back honestly. read more

I spent the evening here with a bunch of people for a friend's birthday celebration on a Friday night. The place wasn't overly packed, but had a good amount of people there. I like the name, "Sugar N Coal" and think it is quite clever, as this place is a hookah lounge (burning coal; get it?) and its other speciality is dessert. This spot has a sexy grown up ambiance, while still being cozy with couches, small stools and booth seating for parties of 4. There was a red glow, a few chandeliers, and silvery (appears gold colored in the photographs) textured walls. Important note: They do not serve alcohol here, which wasn't a problem for me since I don't drink but might be an issue for others. There was a lovely belly dancer that came out to dance a few times (and once whilst balancing candles which took a lot of skill and was such a cool sight to see!) She tried to get all the guests to dance as well. I decided to share one of their gourmet milkshakes. My friend and I ordered the "Death By Chocolate," substituting the vanilla milkshake (boring!) with salted caramel pretzel milkshake. The milkshake was massive with a huge piece of blackout chocolate cake, oreos, gold crunch chocolate bar, sprinkles, whipped cream and chocolate icing over the glass. The milkshake itself was pretty tasty and a nice balance of the sweet caramel and salty pretzel flavor. I think my favorite part was that blackout chocolate cake though. It was absolutely delicious! And I'm normally not a fan of actual chocolate cake. The frosting was thick, rich, incredibly chocolate-y, smooth and the cake was moist and spongey. MMMM! The only part I wasn't a fan of was the chocolate frosting on the glass - It looked aesthetically pleasing but I couldn't actually eat the chocolate because it was stuck on. One of my friends ordered the 20 layer nutella cake which was a complete disappointment. It was presented beautifully with blue, purple and silver sparkles of glitter, a Ferrero Rocher chocolate on top, along with 2 chocolate pieces surrounding it and a pretty, swirled mound of whipped cream with a pocky stick and chocolate swirl underneath. The cake just didn't taste anything like nutella. It was so unsatisfactory that none of us wanted to finish eating it... In a party of around 15 people, that's not a good sign. The service in general was wonderful. Our waitress was personable, funny and accomodating throughout our time. Being there was an enjoyable and fun experience. I had come to this spot a few years ago as a first date and it was a great time. The ambiance and the music was definitely my vibe. I didn't order any food but it was BYOB so had a nice drink and ordered my regular blue mist hookah with ice hose. It pulled right and lasted about 2 hours! (They changed the coal a few times) So fast forward to this past weekend. I met up with my girlfriend to get hookah and catch up. I saw on yelp they had out door seating so we met up at around 4pm and it was basically empty aka fast seating and quick/attentive service. We ordered Mac and cheese bites, wings and cheese fries to nosh on and later for desert a Oreo crepe and fresh chai tea. That tea was amazing! Nice and creamy. The food was good too and decently priced! The blue mist hookah with ice hose again did not disappoint... the coals were changed 2x and the hookah pulled nicely. When you first walk in the place seems super small but then there's an entire back section. I'm not sure how often the floors are clean but they're SUPER slippery and sticky so be wary. I wanted to enjoy this place as the reviews were cool and the hookah was good. However, I guess where I went wrong was ordering food.
