I've heard so many things about the Old Grist Mill; I think it's a local favorite. So when I found…read moremyself in town around dinner time, I decided to check it out. Maybe I'm missing something-likely the nostalgia that others have from years of visiting-but it didn't wow me. Like, at all. First of all, everything feels dingy and dirty. Kind of like your grandma's kitchen that's been around For.Ev.Er. and has a film of dirt and caked on dust upon every surface. That's what it felt like here. It was nice that you can order a custom sandwich by filling out a paper order form and handing it to the cashier. It felt kind of old fashioned and slower pace, which can be fun. I ordered a turkey sandwich and a cup of soup. The sandwich was ok-the turkey was fresh and carefully sliced. But the soup was lackluster. It was reminiscent of something Campbell's might make, or just a mass produced frozen concoction you get at Costco. Either way it was very mid. Would I return? Sure, if someone else really wants to go there. But if I have a say, I'll probably move on to something else.

If you aren't from Logan or Cache County, I'd highly recommend grabbing a bite here and exploring downtown a bit. It is infectiously charming.

The soup was perfect on this cold day. I would have been fine with the bowl of soup but I had to add a sandwich (for later). I ordered "The Pilgrim" with no onion no tomato, and it came with a bag of chips. You don't have to rack your brain trying to decide what kind of chips because they only have one kind. I was really bummed cause when I finally sat down to eat the sandwich at dinner the first thing I smelled was ONIONS and then saw the tomatoes. I picked them off hoping the taste of onions didn't penetrate the lettuce. The sandwich was amazing. It was huge. So big I only managed to get through half and had the other half for lunch the next day. Despite the onion and tomato on my sandwich, I still think they earned that 4 star review.

I will mention it but it is not the most important factor. Pauni brings a bit of island flavour to landlocked Logan. Pauni Island Grill dishes are not heavily spiced but it is characterized by the use of coconut milk and cream. Mixing savory with sweet. We ordered the following with a side of white rice and macaroni salad: Palu Sami (Corn Beef with Coconut Cream): It was like island comfort on a plate, the salty corned beef in coconut cream sauce is a perfect viand to steamed rice, its salty, its fatty, its meaty and very savoury, it's a simple dish. Sweet and Sour Meatballs: This is a cozy dish comprised of meatballs smothered with a sweet and sticky Polynesian pineapple sauce. Lord of Mercy, a little goes a long way. This dish is good but sometimes I find the sauce is too sweet. But that's just fine b/c it balances out with the white rice. Both dishes together in a combo meal, makes me feel good, rub my belly, and close my eyes wishing I was on the beach. This place is simple. If you are expecting fancy bells and whistles, go else where. I love visiting their establishment because eating their food is like tasting a blend of Hawaii's historical influences together which form a new eclectic modern cuisine for Loganites to experience.
