Travelled down to Albany to visit family for my son's 4th birthday. Ordered a cake from Sugar Mama's and had a wonderful experience! They are very thorough and thoughtful. My son has an egg allergy and instead of making and charging me for a fully vegan cake, they just replaced the egg. And it was phenomenal! Everyone at the party was gushing over it. Not only was it delicious, it was beautiful! My son loves rainbows, so the cake was all rainbow. It was perfect! And the price was incredibly reasonable! Highly recommend! read more

Stumbled upon this place when I had lunch at Newk's. Super cute inside. It's small but it definitely has a cute aesthetic to it. I love how they offer private parties and classes. I bought a cake pop and wow, it was delicious. It was so rich and moist. It was pretty big for its' size and a decent price. They make beautiful desserts and everything is delicious. The location is perfect. It's in a high-traffic shopping center. Highly recommend this bakery and supporting this small business! read more

I had a horrible experience with Sugar Mamas Bakery. I placed an order for a cake based upon a specific color, etc. I placed the order for the cake two weeks in advance and had specific conversations with the bakery about the cake being ready at a certain time, etc. When I went to pick up the cake, a day before my scheduled event, the cake was not the same color as the photo that I'd given them and it didn't look anywhere close to it. I am not sure what the issue was because a representative from Sugar Mama's called me yesterday saying she couldn't find my order on Facebook and I informed her that I didn't place an order via Facebook that I'd in fact emailed my order and the photo of the cake that was to be made. When I spoke to the Sugar Mama staff about my concern with the cake not being made to my specifications, I was told that the cake decorator is "color blind" so swatches are needed to match the colors?? I am not insensitive to that but why not tell me that before the cake was made, not after the cake has been a different color????? That makes no sense! Additionally, the energy definitely seemed subdued when it came to my concern. I felt the Caucasian customer's concerns were being addressed with more empathy, concern and zeal than my concern, as an African American. This is very concerning to a magnifying level, to say the least, but when we are all spending money that is "green", the concern to handle the issue with zest and empathy, should be there. I was told that I would receive a 20% refund for the cake. I appreciate some financial recourse for the error, but the way that I was treated far outweighs any amount of money that I could ever be given. In the famous words of the late Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you say, they will forget what you do, but they will never forget how you make them feel". I will never frequent this business again, not because of the mistake that was made because we all make mistakes and should be given the opportunity to make amends for mistakes, but because of the way they made me feel. read more
