I was super excited for our little family getaway after hearing great reviews and looking at all the online images. Sadly, the hotel was disappointing. The first room they gave us was tiny, not what I expected after viewing the rooms on their website. From some reason the thermostat was set to 90* and it was soooo hot in there the strawberries I bought were totally melted. The nasty part was after unloading and attempting to relax in our room, we saw fingernail clippings on the carpet, then my husband looked at the bed. There was long black hairs all over the bed and on the mattress, no mattress cover by the way, no fitted sheet; just a mattress topper. Odd, especially for what is supposed to be a nice hotel. He was grossed out by the nails and hair that we were going to ask for another room and then I noticed an old contact lens on the bedside table. Was this room even cleaned or just the bed remade by a maid who is losing her hair?! The second room they gave us, looked more like the photos - thank goodness. However, there was a broken wine glass behind the night stand and therefore only one wine glass available. Are the cleaners blind or just don't care. It was odd that my husband found a broken glass upon entry into the room but s/he didn't find it the whole time they were supposedly cleaning it and setting up for new guests?! The curtains were shredded on the edges and in the middle - large gashes across the drapes, assuming because its old, doesn't look like a single accident. A drawer from the closet was missing, the carpet was dirty our feet turned black from walking on it. The shower head had iron build-up and was mostly green. For the most part the staff was good and helpful, but the place is run down and surprisingly filthy dirty. I do not recommend Heritage House. We did not complain about all these issues, although now I wish I did. However the hotel did send me a follow survey via email asking about our stay and I mentioned all of these things and its been over a week now and no one has followed up. Beware -- pictures are not always what they seem. Stay elsewhere or get an air bnb!

The location is great! The rooms are clean and comfortable. They provide a Nescafé machine and pods, including an entire French press coffee set up with grounds. It's incredible! I loved the balcony, and hearing the sea lions barking in the distance was great. Also the off leash dog beach is less than a mile away, it's a nice beach with calm water protected by the marina entrance. Give this place a shot!!!

It's consistently one of our favorite places to dine on the Mendocino coast.That said, the rooms are showing their age and are in need of a major refresh. On our most recent stay the bed was not comfortable, and the room overall needed a lot of TLC. Given the higher-end price point, we expected the accommodations to match the quality of the restaurant and the charming grounds.We still enjoy visiting and will likely return for the food and setting, but we'd love to see the rooms brought up to the same standard as the rest of the property.

We recently married in August 2025 and we wanted to get out of Los Angeles and see the Redwoods for our honeymoon. We were looking for quiet, peace, and nature. We found a small piece of heaven, a glimpse into the garden of Eden or at least the ranch in heaven! THE ROOM: We stayed for 4 nights and had the most relaxing time together. Let me start with the room. My husband called and emailed as he was able to see pictures of the rooms to help make a decision. We chose the Captains Quarters and it served us perfectly. We had access to the jacuzzi, a very private room, and the most serene view. The inn was so well kept and the attention to detail was very much appreciated. I pray it stays like this and they keep investing in the upkeep as it was well maintained and we loved the craftsmanship. We loved the decor of the room. I didn't even think twice about a tv. There is no need for television with a view of paradise through the window. THE PEOPLE: We were so blessed to have Colby hosting us at dinner time each evening. He went above and beyond to help us have privacy as we dined each night at a newly married couple. He worked very hard and was exceptionally good and professional at his job. He kept the fireplace going each night for us, talked with us when we engaged conversation, was polite, respectfully, and made us feel very comfortable. He recommended and made great drinks, and helped us with some exploration tips around the area. We made it to the Avenue of the Giants, the tide pools, Mendocino, and a few other local places like Fort Bragg and the Skunk Train. Colby made us feel at home on the ranch. Clancy gave us an amazing UTV tour. His knowledge of the rich history of the area and deep passion for what he does made the trip all the more special. He showed us great sights and if we had more time, we would have definitely done the picnic next time. What he does on the trails to maintain and create them is incredible. What a job to maintain the land. Also, I loved being able to meet and pet his dog! THE FOOD: This is where I was blown away. I thought we were coming for the view, but had no idea the food would be just as stunning. Chef Nick Wells, you are a culinary genius. We were so grateful to have the opportunity to meet and speak with Chef Nick. He, too, was familiar with the surrounding Los Angeles area and so it was great to connect and to share our appreciation and admiration for his talent and creativity. He was so down to earth and friendly. The food was next level. We did both the ranch supper and tasting menu. We originally only had one dinner planned, but after tasting supper we canceled all other dinner reservations and made sure to come back each night for the food. Literally, we reworked our plans to come back and taste what creation he had planned for the evening. It was one of the highlights of the honeymoon and it really gave us a chance to connect as a couple. Side note, we fell in love with the bacon each morning- just incredible. I woke up looking forward to what feast awaited us at breakfast! What a treat and a great way to start our day each morning with a hearty feast. THE EXPERIENCE: The views not only from the room, but the ranch itself were breathtaking. I am used to Southern CA coastline with homes and businesses lining the beaches. Here, a person can breathe. This is how it was intended to be. I am so glad The Inn was kept to the number of rooms it is and that they haven't expanded to some big hotel. It would lose the magic and wonder. I loved that the dining experience was just for guests and there was no traffic. It was intimate and made us feel a part of the ranch. I really valued the experience. We worked very hard to be able to have this experience. Being able to appreciate the land, the trails, and the history of how Mr. Wilson wants to keep the land as was well worth it. The lodge itself was gorgeous. From the stained glass windows at the entrance to the garden and the trails with such special views, I was overwhelmed with beauty. We were so lucky the flowers called "Naked Ladies" which only bloom for about two weeks each year bloomed while we were there. Those pink ladies were gorgeous. THE FUTURE: We are starting to save now for August 2035 for our 10th year anniversary. We look forward to what awaits us down the road when we visit again! Please don't change. We were excited to come after getting jealous from watching Reels on their Instagram, and boy- visiting in person was even 10x better. Would highly recommend going in the "Bay Area summer" of Sept/Oct because the weather was unbeatable, not a cloud in the sky as we enjoyed the pristine, awe-striking CA coast. We stayed in the Hearthstone Junior Suite and had our own private jacuzzzi underneath the stars. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (and the drinks!) were Michelin star-worthy, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful (special shout out to Misha and Timmy who were especially accommodating to my service pug, Gus). The menu for each meal consisted of fresh food directly from the ranch. The creativity put into dishes honestly had me shocked that this place doesn't have a Michelin star already. SO so so delicious. 6 out of 5 stars. The Inn at Newport Ranch is like a secret gem, but I'm not going to gatekeep its beauty. CanNOT wait to come back soon!

It's really unfortunate how the Brewery Gulch Inn has declined. I've stayed at this B&B several…read moretimes over the past 20 years and the current (offsite and very distant) ownership group is quickly putting the final nail in the proverbial coffin. I'll start with the biggest issue. A total lack of transparency. When we booked our multi-nite stay, there was no notice of ongoing construction on the exterior deck AND the desk clerk said nothing about it when we checked in. The noise was off and on all day, including weekends. I'm not simply referring to hammering and sawing. The crew was playing music and SINGING along...right outside our windows. When we complained about this to 3 different desk clerks, all claimed ignorance and/or that they had "no control" over the situation". Similar situation during breakfast, when we were told they were out of 2-4 items on the menu EVERY morning. Regarding the menu, the entre descriptions were generally incorrect as what we were served never matched the entre description on the menu. Update the menu! The lack of communication among and between staff was remarkable and led to missed accommodations, confirmations or simply not getting a response at all. We learned quickly that we needed to tell every single staff member that we could find about any concern or question we had. Ridiculous. Regarding staff, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and simply assume that they are struggling, greatly, obtaining and/or retaining staff. The staff seemed very poorly trained on most functions, including basic customer service. They were pleasant, but uninformed often incapable, and totally unaccountable. This is a management issue, 100%. One of my fondest memories of the Brewery Gulch Inn has always been the setting and the current management is systematically destroying it. A casual look around the property, let alone a stroll, and you will see piles of debris, construction, or otherwise, dilapidated or decaying sitting areas, unkempt landscaping, and a general lack of attention. For those of us who remember the Brewery Gulch Inn from years past, this is one of the saddest parts of my review. On the positive/neutral side, the rooms are fairly well maintained (shower fixtures, light fixtures need attention), carpet is overdue for replacement). Housekeeping is attentive and thorough. For an Inn on the Mendocino coast that's charging upwards of $800-900 per night, depending on the room and season, it's shocking the entity that owns the Brewery Gulch Inn is allowing this to happen (and after talking with some other establishments in the area, I felt like the last to know). In summary, there are many locations to choose from in the area that provide a setting with service that match the price. The Brewery Gulch Inn is not one of them. Buyer beware.

I emailed Isabel (guest service manager) with detailed list of concerns and why the stay was not worth the price. Isabel sent a detailed response that seemed appropriate and areas they will be working on to bring the BGI back to a higher standard. I appreciated her sincere response. I hope this happens as this has always been such a special place to stay. I will give the BGI second chance down the road.

At the same time, we had a staged fashion show with models wearing designer gowns so the music had to work for that aspect as well! Johanna had to find music that worked to support all of this and sent me a bunch of options to chat about and review beforehand which I really appreciated. She really knocked it out of the park! So many people commented about how great the vibe and music was at the event and I would recommend her for any event where you need a fabulous DJ! Thanks Johanna!

I put "partial" in quotation marks because the label fails to capture how integral Zoe was to the success of our weekend and how supported we felt throughout the entire planning process. Here are just some of the ways she excels. First, Zoe has deep expertise. As my fiancé and I shared our wedding vision -- which largely took the form of spitballing half-baked ideas -- Zoe offered thoughtful advice on how to bring it to life. She was always supportive and collaborative, focused on how we could accomplish our goals rather than whether they were possible. She knows, and has worked with, all the venues and vendors in the Mendocino area, and she steered us toward those best suited to the event we wanted. Every vendor she recommended was talented, thoughtful, and kind, and it was clear each one held Zoe in the highest regard and loved working with her. Second, Zoe is meticulous. She knows everything (I mean every last detail) that needs to happen for a successful event, and she makes sure it does. Our venue required bringing in numerous outside vendors and substantial rentals, and Zoe coordinated all the moving parts so that everything came together in harmony. It was as though she conducted an orchestra that, despite never having rehearsed together, performed brilliantly on opening night. Our already high expectations were quickly surpassed as we moved from event to event, each one more beautiful (in every sense of the word) than we could have imagined. Third, Zoe is resourceful and creative. She doesn't just coordinate; she gets her hands dirty. As one example: just a week before our event, when we realized we needed more decorative elements for our western-themed rehearsal dinner, Zoe proposed hay bales from the feed store. Then she arranged the rental herself and delivered them to our venue personally. They turned out to be an inspired choice. Some of our favorite photos from the whole weekend are of us sitting on those hay bales, laughing as our friends toasted us. Finally, Zoe is a wonderful human being. From our very first meeting, her warmth and enthusiasm were obvious. Throughout the planning process, she showed genuine excitement for us as a couple and for our weekend. On the rare occasion we felt a flicker of anxiety with a vendor, she was quick to reassure us and fix the issue. And on the wedding day itself, she was every bit as essential. Her joy was palpable even as she handled a thousand details behind the scenes. We received glowing feedback from our friends and family, many of whom singled out Zoe by name. Even during the event, guests came up to tell us how lucky we were to be working with someone so exceptional. We couldn't agree more. In short, Zoe is in a league of her own. The only bitter note in an otherwise perfect wedding was knowing it meant the end of our working relationship with her. I guess we'll have to find more events to plan!

Zoe kept a lot of moving parts in her head throughout a long planning process and helped us iron out an uncountable number of kinks. With her help, we unlocked savings with certain vendor contracts. With her help, everything stayed on time. With her help, we were able to surprise our guests with 3 different performances during the wedding reception. Zoe knows Mendocino well. Her deep roots along the coast became deeply valuable throughout the planning process. When we wanted to best pastries for our glampers, she had us try Franny's in Point Arena. When we wanted a vinyl DJ, she introduced us to Colby in Gualala. When we needed brunch at a reasonable price, she suggested Shay, a young caterer getting their business off the ground. Mendocino is one of most magical places I know and I know it because of Zoe's guidance. Zoe is a calming presence. Planning a wedding is a stressful ordeal. Every time we had a call with Zoe, she answered our questions clearly and concisely, offering help much of the time. But beyond the content of her answers, she had a way of reducing the anxiety my partner and I were feeling at that moment. This carried through well during the wedding weekend, when she consistently reminded us, through her actions, that we were in good hands. We cannot recommend Zoe and her team highly enough! You'll be in good hands!
