Pizza was the best I have had in Lancaster. Highly recommend trying if you haven't. We did carry out. Not sure about dining in.

They got new owners a year ago.. we haven't had it since. It used to be my fave, now it tastes so weird like this strange aftertaste i could tell it was different as i opened the box. It looks like sugar bears it has the same crunch and texture but it's off. Our son didn't even like it and he loves all pizza. so sad read more

Ordering $50 worth of pizza for pool party and the grumpy old lady tells the kid we only give paper plates out for dine in, and the kid says, do you want me to give you napkins to use as plates, I said sure and he gives me 3 napkins, you would think giving out some cheap paper plates wouldn't hurt their bottom line, but maybe if they stayed open more than half of the peak hours, they could afford to give out some paper plates to their customers, who are not always eating it at home? Plus, they're living in the Stone Age. God forbid you have to use Apple Pay or a card or something. It doesn't even work or they don't even have any type of new forms of payments. I'm shocked this place is still open. I'm not surprised it closed down before, I mean, the pizza can be good. This place could be the number one pizza in Lancaster and rival the best in Columbus if they would do just one thing. Change the crust. They have a perfect smooth tomato sauce, although on the sweet side,all their toppings are good, their pepperoni is especially good, and although the price is not cheap, you never feel cheated on the amount of toppings But the crust is pretty tasteless I don't know if the make it or buy a frozen crust but if they would use a good flour and let the dough rest for 24 hrs they could have a top notch pizza. read more

Some of the best pizza around. Thicker crust with tons of toppings. Tells you they are doing something right when there is a line out the door for pick up orders on a Friday night. This was before there Corona scare. Normal Friday with line out the door. Staff is extremely welcoming and friendly even though they were very busy. Not exactly the way the pictures present this pizza. The sauce is sweet. We really enjoy thin crust, and while Sugar Bear's leans toward a thin-like crust, don't expect the cracker crust Tommy's pizza makes. I like a lot of sauce, but their pizzas are slim on that ingredient, and really, their sauce is too sweet for my liking. Order it extra crispy or well-done for the best results. I heard this was a great pizza, reminiscent of the original Fat Cars I enjoyed so much as a younger man. So I ordered two, one large pepperoni and mushroom, the other a pineapple, ham and mushroom. The large was Ok, a little over cooked, but not bad. The second however, as listed on the box, was supposed to be a pineapple, ham and mushroom. When on the road, we enjoy looking for locals to explore; mom & pop's, holes in the wall, dumps and dives, off the road, out of the way places. Whatever your favorite "term of endearment ", this one is worth the try. Prices are incredibly affordable! We told ourselves, at $7.50 for a small 'Bear Paw' speciality pizza, we could walk away if the first bite was that bad. The sauce is sweet... hence the name. So, be forewarned before you try it. But do try it! They also off a personal size Pizza and, at $4, even cheaper to walk away if you don't like it. The crust is unique too but very good. When phoning in our order l asked about crust options and was advised they have just the one... 'it's neither thick nor thin but good'. The description seemed odd and even cause my wife and I to raise an eyebrow and also chuckled a bit. But, after tasting, we totally understood! It is a very good crust. Call them and give it a try; I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised! Dine in and enjoy the unique atmosphere or call ahead for takeout but don't get fooled by the appearance of a 'drive-up' window as so many before as have! On a whim as I was working in Lancaster on a project, I took the advice of a fellow co-worker and decided to get some pizza and side bits. You know how they say that "pizza is pizza, even when it's bad, it's still good"? Yeah, those who think that way, obviously have never tried this place. Now was it clean? Yeah. Was the staff friendly? Yeah, sure. However there is a reason why this place is named Sugar Bear's Pizza. Only because I asked my co-worker what this little bag he carried around was a week later, I found out it was his insulin! This is one of the first and only time that I have ever tasted a pizza that had cheese, sauce and pepperoni and yet it was sweeter than a desert style pizza. I mean WTH? Then I was talking to some other locals who adore the place and they were carrying around insulin gear as well. SERIOUSLY? I took a second chance, I knew the pizza was a no go, so I had a sub.... It was an Italian sub... Somehow I think I ate 4 snickers bars worth of sugar while eating that sub. The sauce which I got on the side, was like dipping something in a Pepsi that had some tomato in it. The dressing that was on the sub? I dipped my finger on the foil to lick some of the dressing and it can only be described as a savory high fruticose corn syrup with spices. EVEN THE HAM TASTED LIKE A SUGAR CURED HAM??????? Really? Who does that? So, if you are ever in the land of Lancaster, and are on good standing with your medical insurance, the please feel free at the one place where the customers tune their insulin pumps on full stream. I mean seriously, this is the type of place where Jabba The Hutt would hang out while telling his Bounty Hunters to go get Solo.... Absolutely amazing pizza!! Great "old school" pizza joint. I opted for my favorite toppings since this was my first visit. Sausage mushroom and onion. The pizza was baked perfectly. It's always good to see the edges and cheese caramelize (sure I spelled that wrong LOL) this means the oven is hot enough which is key to crust development. The toppings were plentiful and good quality ingredients. All of this leads to the element that will either make or break a pizza The Sauce!! This is the foundation for the toppings and if the sauce isn't good the toppings really don't matter. With that said the sauce is awesome. It provides a solid base of flavor. It has a sweet hint to it but the tomato is is deep and rich. Overall a deep intense flavor that stands out but somehow does not overpower. I love this sauce I could eat it on toast! I love the pizza here. The crust is sweet and crispy which really appeals to my taste. I used to get this pizza once a week when I worked in Lancaster, and now we make special trips from Columbus just to satisfy our Sugar Bears craving! I have never eaten in, only taken out. The employees are always very nice and genuine. I have never had issues with service and I would absolutely recommend their pizza to anyone. I don't usually get pizza from small shops because they're normally more expensive and hit or miss on the quality. This place is definitely a hit. Their sauce is sweet, just how I like it. They use good tasting ingredients and put a fair amount on the pizza. The price is comparable to other places in the area. The staff seem to be polite and helpful. I am a Lancaster local and was a BIG fan of Christy's Pizza for many years. Once I had a pizza pie from Sugar Bear's, Christy's no longer existed! The sauce is where it's at with this pizza. It's slightly on the sweet side which is ok because the sweet flavor is only in the background. The staff is probably the most nicest people I have ever met. As for the inside of the establishment, it is a little weird and small, but once you taste the pie all that does not matter. I would give this food 10 stars if it was possible. read more

I am lucky enough to live near both Yellow Brick and Harvest in Columbus. Different pies but very fine execution. When a friend told me I had to try Sugar Bears in Lancaster I took him seriously as he is serious about pizza. First the negatives. It is not easy to find and it is not appealing either outside or in. Nothing outside makes you want to stop. When you are inside, it is dark, the furniture is old, and the decor is, well, strange. Still, I have eaten in a lot of first-rate BBQ joints all over the country that I would say the same thing about. As for the pizza, IT IS FIRST RATE!!!. Nothing cutting-edge about it, but it is tremendously good. The wait staff was very nice and very local. The dough is made on spot and comes out crispy yet with a toothsome chewiness. It is fairly thin (not Harvest thin) so this makes a fine mouthfeel. The sauce is on the sweet side and could use a bit more oregano but it fits well with the dough and the cheese, which is flavorful and melts well without becoming too stringy. The pepperoni was first rate, chewy and spicy and a bit caramelized on the edges. This is one fine, fine pie. The place is off the beaten path and take out looks like the deal unless you like aged funky decor, but it sure is worth finding. read more

The pizza here is good but costumer service is absolutely awful. I ordered a pizza with everything minus mushroom and green peppers. We got our pizza and it was onion and banana peppers. We called and told them we had gotten the wrong pizza. Was told they wanted the wrong pizza back ( understandable but stupid) and would re deliver us the right pizza. We had about 6 people waiting to eat, four of which never had this place. We got a call about 9:50 (20-30 mins later) in which we were asked what we wanted on our pizza because they wanted to make sure it was right we told them an all the way no mushroom or green pepper they told us the pizza we got was the all the way. So we asked if we could just tell them what we wanted instead, the person on the phone told us that the pizza was already half way threw the oven and she was not remaking it. ( why call to ask what we want if you already out the pizza in the oven?) they never delivered that pizza cause well it was the same one we had already so we ended up with a cold pizza that wasn't what we ordered. Just for this fact the 6 ppl we had over and I will never be ordering from there again! read more
