"Mediterranean Sampler" Warm pita bread and 4 dips.(Creamy white Tzatziki, Nutty chickpea Hummus, Red pepper & Feta cheese, Spinach & Feta)

Four of us stopped in last night, when it was in the single digits in January, and had a great time & enjoyed every bite. No complaints here. Lancaster "old-timers" may remember this building as "Kane's Restaurant" once upon a time, and other than a sign change out front to "The Mediterranean" I'm guessing there really haven't been any updates since the 1970's. So don't be surprised by the vintage interior, either. We started out with the Pita Bread & 4-Dip appetizer, ("Mediterranean Sampler") which consisted of fresh, warm pita triangles and a choice of creamy Tzatziki, hearty Hummus, a Spinach & Feta cheese and a slightly spicier Red Pepper & Feta cheese dip. All of the dips were quite good, and we alternated between all of them. I'm fond of Greek food already, so I ordered the traditional Lamb Gyro, with everything but onions, and a side of Greek Fries (with lemon juice squeezed over them and Feta cheese sprinkled on top). The Gyro was stuffed full, with generous portions of warm meat, cheese and veggies. Very tasty! I like to eat my Greek Fries quickly, because they tend to cool down quickly and never quite taste the same when they are cold, so I only ate half of them. But they were really good. One of the others in my group had the waitress copy my order, and she seemed pleased with her meal as well. Another member wanted a basic hamburger, and got the All American Burger and seemed very happy with it. It was a nice, large cheeseburger on a brioche bun, came with a side of chips, and was only $7.75. Not bad! (In fact, she tends to be very frugal by nature, and commented that she couldn't believe how reasonable all the prices were). The fourth member of our group wasn't interested in eating Greek Food when we sat down, and she'd planned on getting a burger also. But she surprised all of us by ordering the "Shrimp & Scallop Mediterranean" with a side salad and basic fries. She got a full plate of seafood, assorted veggies and rice, and she loved it! It was more than she could eat, so the other three of us accepted her offer to have a taste and it was delicious! We were all too stuffed to try the desserts, which was a shame, because the cannoli looked fantastic. Maybe next time. If a "hole in the wall" vibe doesn't scare you when you pull up to this building, give this place a try. I think you'll be pleased that you did.

Falafel

Mediterranean on 33 is the best place in Lancaster to get Greek food. Ok, it's the only place. They don't have competition thankfully. It's okay but nothing mind blowing. They have a bar so you can get a drink while your food comes out. I had the falafel sandwich. It's about $10 and comes with fries. The falafel were pretty tasty. It was kind of burnt. The inside however was okay. It would have been nice if there had been more. They only put in a few pieces. Fries were good. Of course how could you screw those up. It was a lot like Greek fast food. Some of it was good and other parts could have been better. This could be visited again if going into Lancaster but I wouldn't make a trip for this.

Chicken platter

I got a platter because i wanted to try the Greek salad and hummus and it seemed like a good deal. I was disappointed to find the salad to be some lettuce on my plate with feta and a tomato wedge. The chicken had a chicken fajita Mexican vibe more so than Mediterranean in my opinion. The hummus was delicious though and the salad dressing was also really good. The weirdest thing to me about the platter is the French fries. It doesn't fit. I would have much rather skipped the fries and had a bigger salad. Atmosphere wise the dining room is surprisingly decent considering the outside of the building. However there was loud oldies music playing which also didn't fit. The music made it feel like a dated 50's diner and the staff kept skipping songs which made for skipping around. I think this place definitely has potential but it needs some work.

Drive by this place all the time so decided to stop in after work and pick up dinner. This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's very nice inside. Decent size bar and seating area. We got the gyro pita platter with seasoned fries, a side of falafel, and baklava. The food was very good, not much else I can say about it. Now, the reason for only 4 stars. This is mostly a sit down restaurant, so not sure how many take out orders they get. There weren't more than 4 tables occupied when we got there, with 3 more groups arriving afterwards. It took them over 30 minutes to get us our order, which IMHO, is a bit too long to wait for a takeout order. The other part of the 4 star rating is the gyro was a bit chincy when it came to the meat. I've had gyros for cheaper with more meat. Overall, we'll go back to dine in but probably not do take out. Ownership does seem friendly and the staff as well. I believe they are the only Greek place in Lancaster.

Feta and olives and hummus

I was in Lancaster with my friend going antiquing and we ran across this place to eat a very late lunch. We had two appetizers, the hummus and the olive and feta. They were both really good but nothing too special. The feta was fresh and big chunks. I had a spicy gyro for my meal. It is a huge gyro and comes with tasty chips. The service is ok, again nothing special. I would go back however because there are not many restaurants around.

A $9 small salad compared to an $11 large salad. To add gyro meat is the same 4.50 flat fee. Receipt is visible for pricing.

A small salad that charges the same amount (4.50) as a large salad to add Gyro and gets half the portion of the meat. 2 strips vs 4 strips. The small salad is smaller than a Wendy's side salad. And at that is a $9.00 salad. My husband didn't take a photo of his before eating. But his was an $11 salad compared to a $9 beside it. And notice the receipt charged the same amount to add gyro meat.

Very yummy chicken shawarma

Great gyros. Nice atmosphere and good service. We had gyros both times we went. A hidden treasure in Lancaster.

We kicked things off with a glass of Sangiovese, which was excellent, and paired it perfectly with their crispy calamari--tender, flavorful, and not the least bit chewy. The small Italian house salad and the beet & goat cheese salad with citrus dressing were both spot-on in taste and portion size, while the garlic bread stood out with its distinctive cheese blend and deliciousness. The entrees were generously portioned, leaving us with plenty of leftovers. On night one, the rigatoni Bolognese and chicken Parmigiana were absolute standouts--phenomenal flavors we'd order repeatedly and highly recommend to anyone. The homemade pasta and sauces were truly outstanding. The following evening, we enjoyed the fettuccine carbonara Alfonso and linguine Alfredo with grilled chicken, once again impressed by the rich sauces and fresh pasta. We capped off the meal with a shareable cheesecake topped with berries--expertly made and the ideal sweet finish. This has quickly become our go-to spot when staying at our cabins in the Lancaster area. We'll be spreading the word to our guests and returning soon! The staff was warm and highly attentive, with our server Bridget shining as a true standout. P.S. As folks with Italian roots who know authentic Italian cuisine, we can confidently say this place delivers the real deal!

I was in a party of 9, we stopped by at 7pm after a long day after calling ahead to confirm…read moreavailability, and were told to come. Upon arriving we noticed they were ready for closing other than one large table in the middle for us and a man, who we later found out was the owner, sitting by the entrance welcoming us in to eat, which was nice. Unfortunately, after that is where the dissatisfaction and eventual complete unprofessionalism starts. We sit down and start looking at the menu and we ask the server how many each dish feeds as they take cash only and we only had about $130 in cash on us, so he offered us a deal that we can pick two pastas and they will make two BIG plates that in his own words "will keep us full" and that we'd be satisfied. We were skeptical so we asked in the event we aren't satisfied as we are extremely hungry, will we be able to get more food free of charge? And the server replied we wouldn't need it but in case we do, we would be accommodated. Once the food came out we immediately had doubts about the portion sizes as the plates were not very big at all (12 inch dishes max!) and the pasta was not piled on too much at all. Within 15 minutes all the food was eaten clean and we were all talking and decided we were still very hungry, hungry enough that we felt it warranted we ask for more food, after all we were guaranteed wed be satisfied which definitely wasn't the case yet. So we asked for more food and suddenly "the kitchen is closed" and "the cook already turned off the water" so naturally we are a little shocked and ask about our deal, which is when the waiter just completely lies and tells us he never said that, only that it was a "possibility". At this point we feel scammed on two fronts, one is that we paid an exorbitant amount for 2 plates of very average pasta and not a great amount of it, i probably ate a total of 10 gnocchis and a single serving spoon of shellfish pasta, which had very little shellfish in it too. The server then tells us he can ask the owner if its possible which is when things happened that made me want to put this whole story in this review. The owner came out and told us he gave us a lot of food and that he can't make anymore food for us, and we brought up the same points to him saying we felt "scammed". As soon as he heard that word his tone got aggressive and he raised his voice saying not to call him a scammer and telling us all sorts of things about how we are being bad guests, we kept trying to reason with him, asking that does he understand why we feel cheated, but rather than discuss anything he chose to tell us to stop talking and yelled over us. Then, very aggressively walked over to one of my friends, who he very rudely interrupted and told her not to talk when shed try to bring something up in our argument, and he got so close and aggressive that I felt the need to tell this man who runs a restaurant that he needs to stop yelling and instead have an adult conversation as this is getting very unprofessional, which he then calmed down a little but wouldn't budge at all. We made it very clear that even if they can't make us more food, things would be made right if they could give us compensation/a lower total bill because 1, we did not at all receive the promised extra food if we requested it within good reason and instead got disingenuous excuses, and 2, their original claim also wasn't true for a single one of us as none of us were full or satisfied with the amount of food, not to mention that each plate being priced at $75 was an extremely overpriced meal, especially considering the food was ok in taste at best and very simple, and these were hungry mouths talking so it should've been very easy to impress us there but they still failed. The bottom line is the owner did not budge and told us to get out and was very rude and unprofessional and downright threatening and this didn't even come with good food. And to top it all off, he is now giving racist replies to my friend's reviews as well. There is absolutely no reason to give this place your business.
