It's one of those strip mall hole-in-the walls that is a complete gem once you walk through the door. I had second thoughts when we parked outside, but my husband convinced me that it looked like a place that has been there forever. And, like always, he was not wrong. I love gyros. And this was my lucky day as they were on special. Our server (young lady with long dark hair) was absolutely delightful....attentive, polite, and competent. It's been a while since I ordered from The Mediterranean Restaurant. My son placed the order. When I got there to pick it up the boss waited on me. She said that's 2 Euro Platters right? I said no I ordered a lamb gyro with fries. She said no the order was 2 Euro Platters. She argued with me over and over. I saw she was not going to give me what my son had ordered. She charged us over $18.00 for each order that was wrong . I went home and opened up my order in the styrofoam container and there were a few fries and wrapped up in foil was a few pieces of lamb over rice. I had ordered 2 times before and both times it was exactly what I ordered. My son called and said this was not what we ordered and wanted her to make it right. She argued with him and swore that is what was ordered. She said no and to her a gyro platter means meat over rice with a side order of fries. My son said when you order a burger platter that doesn't mean a hamburger cut up without toppings & bun and a small fry, it means a hamburger on a bun with fries. She continued to argue with my son over the phone & would not make it right. I couldn't say what the Ambiance was because I was angry when I left. We will never order from there anymore. We will stick with Cristy's pizza because they will make it right if your order was wrong. My son was disgusted & threw his away. DISAPPOINTED! Improve? Four of us stopped in last night, when it was in the single digits in January, and had a great time & enjoyed every bite. No complaints here. Lancaster "old-timers" may remember this building as "Kane's Restaurant" once upon a time, and other than a sign change out front to "The Mediterranean" I'm guessing there really haven't been any updates since the 1970's. So don't be surprised by the vintage interior, either. We started out with the Pita Bread & 4-Dip appetizer, ("Mediterranean Sampler") which consisted of fresh, warm pita triangles and a choice of creamy Tzatziki, hearty Hummus, a Spinach & Feta cheese and a slightly spicier Red Pepper & Feta cheese dip. All of the dips were quite good, and we alternated between all of them. I'm fond of Greek food already, so I ordered the traditional Lamb Gyro, with everything but onions, and a side of Greek Fries (with lemon juice squeezed over them and Feta cheese sprinkled on top). The Gyro was stuffed full, with generous portions of warm meat, cheese and veggies. Very tasty! I like to eat my Greek Fries quickly, because they tend to cool down quickly and never quite taste the same when they are cold, so I only ate half of them. But they were really good. One of the others in my group had the waitress copy my order, and she seemed pleased with her meal as well. Another member wanted a basic hamburger, and got the All American Burger and seemed very happy with it. It was a nice, large cheeseburger on a brioche bun, came with a side of chips, and was only $7.75. Not bad! (In fact, she tends to be very frugal by nature, and commented that she couldn't believe how reasonable all the prices were). The fourth member of our group wasn't interested in eating Greek Food when we sat down, and she'd planned on getting a burger also. But she surprised all of us by ordering the "Shrimp & Scallop Mediterranean" with a side salad and basic fries. She got a full plate of seafood, assorted veggies and rice, and she loved it! It was more than she could eat, so the other three of us accepted her offer to have a taste and it was delicious! We were all too stuffed to try the desserts, which was a shame, because the cannoli looked fantastic. Maybe next time. If a "hole in the wall" vibe doesn't scare you when you pull up to this building, give this place a try. I think you'll be pleased that you did. read more

Strangely, my wife ordered the same dish and hers was fine. Price was very fair for what they were trying to do but cold seafood just doesn't work. Manager heard my complaint and offered to take my plate back and put it in the microwave (?!?!),,, but at that point we'd been in the place well over an hour and we just wanted to get done and out of there. Mediterranean on 33 is the best place in Lancaster to get Greek food. Ok, it's the only place. They don't have competition thankfully. It's okay but nothing mind blowing. They have a bar so you can get a drink while your food comes out. I had the falafel sandwich. It's about $10 and comes with fries. The falafel were pretty tasty. It was kind of burnt. The inside however was okay. It would have been nice if there had been more. They only put in a few pieces. Fries were good. Of course how could you screw those up. It was a lot like Greek fast food. Some of it was good and other parts could have been better. This could be visited again if going into Lancaster but I wouldn't make a trip for this. read more

My order was a delivery order. For a "Greek restaurant", they had suspiciously few Greek dishes. I ordered spanakopita and a gyros. Both came with GARLIC SALAD DRESSING instead of the traditional tzadiki sauce (yogurt, cucumber, lemon, olive oil and herbs). The only other alternative provided was marinara sauce! (Um, not Greek.) Tzadiki is not expensive or hard to make. Seems like they thought salad dressing would be close enough. It really, really isn't. On the menu it just said "Garlic" and "Marinara", so I didn't even know it was salad dressing until I opened the bag. Fortunately, I asked for the garlic (which I assumed was fried garlic cloves) on the side for the spanakopita, so it was edible, even good, though it really needed the yogurt sauce. Sadly, I forgot to specify the sauce on the side with the gyro, so they slathered it on the pita and the meat, and it was inedible. I should mention that the garlic dressing was bad: really heavy, oily and with overpowering amounts of garlic flavoring. So a $15 sandwich landed in the trash. Had I been at home, I would have washed off the dressing, replaced the pita and broiled the meat more (the meat was kind of pale, not so flavorful). Long story short: don't eat here if you want good Greek food. read more

I see great reviews, but something must have changed. Very long wait, close to 1 1/2 hours to get food, and it wasn't crowded. We got in and out in 2 hours. When the food arrived to our party of 4 adults and one child, it wasn't good. One order of a fish dish was completely wrong and served with a sauce over pasta, it didn't look appetizing. My daughter-in-law couldn't eat it. They did take $15 off of the bill. The fries for our grandson's meal looked burnt, definitely overcooked. I was promised olives for my salad, but they weren't there. The salad was just okay. My son had onion rings drenched in oil and not appetizing to eat. My husband's fish sandwich was also overcooked. I got a platter because i wanted to try the Greek salad and hummus and it seemed like a good deal. I was disappointed to find the salad to be some lettuce on my plate with feta and a tomato wedge. The chicken had a chicken fajita Mexican vibe more so than Mediterranean in my opinion. The hummus was delicious though and the salad dressing was also really good. The weirdest thing to me about the platter is the French fries. It doesn't fit. I would have much rather skipped the fries and had a bigger salad. Atmosphere wise the dining room is surprisingly decent considering the outside of the building. However there was loud oldies music playing which also didn't fit. The music made it feel like a dated 50's diner and the staff kept skipping songs which made for skipping around. I think this place definitely has potential but it needs some work. read more

Drive by this place all the time so decided to stop in after work and pick up dinner. This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's very nice inside. Decent size bar and seating area. We got the gyro pita platter with seasoned fries, a side of falafel, and baklava. The food was very good, not much else I can say about it. Now, the reason for only 4 stars. This is mostly a sit down restaurant, so not sure how many take out orders they get. There weren't more than 4 tables occupied when we got there, with 3 more groups arriving afterwards. It took them over 30 minutes to get us our order, which IMHO, is a bit too long to wait for a takeout order. The other part of the 4 star rating is the gyro was a bit chincy when it came to the meat. I've had gyros for cheaper with more meat. Overall, we'll go back to dine in but probably not do take out. Ownership does seem friendly and the staff as well. They were both really good but nothing too special. The feta was fresh and big chunks. I had a spicy gyro for my meal. It is a huge gyro and comes with tasty chips. Very yummy place! Came into town for a family wedding was family recommended this place. After a 6.5 hr drive from DC we were starving and ready for some good food. I got the chicken shawarma and it was incredible. I cleaned my plate! I am salivating just thinking about that dish! We were with a very large group as we met up with other family members there, but the waitress was very helpful, cheerful and attentive to our needs. I would give 5 stars but one large piece of chicken turned out to be entirely fat. It was the same size all the other pieces of chicken (quite large) but was so terrible being pure fat it actually made me gag! Yikes! It was particularly unpleasant. This was my first time getting food from Mediterranean and I have to say it was absolutely fantastic!! I am obsessed with the Chicken Gyro it was one of the best I have ever had, completely full of flavor and the gyro sauce was phenomenal. The fries, tzatziki, and pita were just as amazing and my husband loved his traditional Gyro. I am first generation American from a Mediterranean family. This place is awesome! Zagoria chicken was phenomenal and the spanakopita (we call it zelnik) was to die for. Made me miss Baba's cooking. The chicken I had could've been seared better, but the seasoning and spicy feta sauce made it so much better. They also have some great beer options on tap. Kentucky bourbon barrel beer was really good! Server was nice and food came out fast. The setting is very hole in the wall, which is just my type of place. The falafel was crap - tiny balls of super BURNT breading with maybe one chickpea in it; pitas were a mess like the line cook didn't care if he was fired; and the "lettuce" was a couple CHUNKS (no slices or leaves, the literal dregs of head of lettuce) of browned iceberg. We used to love this place. We order take-out 3 times a week! The Gyros are always loaded and fantastic! I order the grilled chicken Gyro, and it, by far, beats any I've ever eaten anywhere! Jeannie, the owner, has been amazing with catered food I've ordered for parties, too! We've tried so many items on the menu, but our favorites, besides the Gyros, are the Spicy Cajun Seasoned Fries with Feta, the homemade Spinach, Mushroom, or Cheese Ravioli, the Salmon, which is excellent, the Greek 1/2 lb Burger, which is superb, the Feta and Olives, which are fabulous, the chicken wings, which are the cheapest around and far exceed any of the wing places, and, finally, the Spicy Feta Dip with Pita Bread is a meal in itself and my personal favorite, which never disappoints! My previous rating for this establishment was from a visit under the previous owners. The old owners served the BEST. Yes, the BEST chicken parmesean. Went for a recent visit and thought it's been awhile, so I'll try the favorite chicken parmesean. The meal started out with a side salad that was very good. Fresh lettuce with tons of cheese and nice helping of diced tomatoes. Served with what I believe was the house made gyro sauce as a dressing. One star given just for the excellent salad. Unfortunately, the chicken parmesean sucked. The chicken was rubbery. I couldn't tell if it hadn't been cooked long enough, if it was old, etc., but it sucked. The noodles it was served with were watery and not very tasty. Another star is given because my kids each ordered the bacon cheeseburgers which once again were amazing. I'm sticking with 2 stars because I got my bill for a family of 4 which included two bacon cheeseburger meals and it was $61! $73 with a tip. Ouch! We can eat at Texas Roadhouse for that price and are guaranteed an awesome meal. Only way I will return is possibly on a Thursday where I saw on their specials board that all burgers are $5.50 with a side of chips. Other than a possible Thursday trip, I don't see myself returning. Might not matter anyway, because there was only one other table with customers on a weekday dinner night. THIS PLACE IS UNDER NEW AND AWFUL MANAGEMENT. WAS GREAT, NOW A DUMPSTER FIRE! We went to dinner at Mediterranean on 33 tonight. The food was raw and they poured tea all over me, the table, and into my plate. Food was literally floating in tea. Manager came over and we told her the problem. She said "spills happen" and "they wanted medium well". It's was RAW and cold inside. Obviously it was not cooked properly. She argued with us, took the plates away and came back with a bill. I thought for a second she was bringing new orders. Nope, just a bill. I refused to pay it. She didn't offer new food. I refused to pay for food I didn't eat and we left. I called later to complain. Same manager answered the phone. She tells me she called the police on dine and dash. I was like we didn't dine dumbass. She said I have your number now and will give to the police. I said go ahead. So the police called me and we went over to the restaurant parking lot. The cop was there and we explained the situation. He said that since they bit the raw ass burgers, in Ohio, that's considered legally eaten. He said it was dumb but we either had to pay or he would need to write a report to the prosecutor. I was like I'll pay the bitch. He said when he walked in after she had called, she was having the same argument with another table with raw meat, etc. Same table next to us when we walked out. Cop said " I haven't eaten here, don't think I ever will". LOL. So Jason goes in so I don't make a scene and get arrested. All done and they come back. Officer says he understands the frustration of paying $40 for food that was literally not eaten. We go to leave, thank him for being nice. Hand to God and sweet baby Jesus, this is the worst place to go. It used to be fantastic, so I assume another party has taken it over. Go read the manager's awful and blaming responses to customer complaints on Facebook. She blames customers for HER terrible cooks. She is literally the world's WORST food service manager I have ever seen. I'm calling the health dept for her making people eat raw hamburger meat that she knows is raw and not even cooked through. Literally disgusting. Plus there are no assigned servers, so it's utter chaos. You won't get your right drinks or food from what we saw. And when you do, it's raw or floating in a plate of tea.
