The food was good, aren't a lot of steakhouses in the area. But the service was terrible, our waitress seemed more involved in the conversations happening by the bar than our table. We got our bread, appetizer, and entrees all within three minutes since she was late bringing the appetizer out (which was room temp). It would've been nice having a good steakhouse to go to in the area, but you're better off driving to Columbus if you want to pay this much for food and get good service with it. read more

We came to meet up with my aunt and her friends. Boyf and I sat at the bar for a drink first and I had a great Lemondrop Martini. Once seated with the others (7 of us in the back room separated by a window) we had wonderful service. A few of us shared bottles of wine and our server refilled our glasses each time she checked on us. We shared the Calamari and the Spinach Artichoke Dip to start. Interesting menu, frequently refreshed to provide new offerings and seasonal choices. Some of the entrees and main courses are outstanding, and the shrimp and grits (now gone from the menu) was worthy of New Orleans. The steaks are cooked to perfection, and served on a sizzling platter: the venue has been known for them since the original restaurant opened over a century ago. The cocktail menu is good (the specialty Manhattan is fantastic), and the wine list is adequate. Service is generally friendly, but can be disappointing and disorganized on busy nights. The bar is a regular hangout for Newark business and professional types and their retired predecessors. The bar area can get unpleasantly noisy as the evening wears on and regular patrons argue politics and gossip about who's sleeping with whom as they work on their 3rd or 4th cocktails. It can become impossible to enjoy any kind of dinner conversation in the adjoining dining area so don't let them seat you there if quiet conversation is a your agenda!! This little gem in downtown Newark is so nice to visit without the drive to Columbus, great food, great drinks and good staff. The service this time was a little subpar but hey, it was a Tuesday. We had 8 total for a neighborhood holiday dinner. The "new" bartender was so friendly and really made the pre dinner cocktail fun. She said she Hd just started and hopefully she keeps that enthusiasm. The ambiance is warm, holiday themed with a nice car area and dinning room. We've been here a few times and really enjoyed the food. Last night was off. The lobster bisque soup and cheese curds (new on the menu I guess)came out warm , not hot. Homemade ranch dipping sauce was 5 stars. Steaks were ok. Just ok. They were cooked to the right temperature but the flavor was meh. For the price, it should be better. I took my girlfriend out for dinner we made the reservation at the start of the month the limited menu was not brought to our attention so when we walked in and got a very limited option we were disappointed my girlfriend also happens to be gluten free so she got half of that menu available. However we sucked it up and ordered our food we both did the $90 option because we couldn't share the food we both wanted. After spending 2 hours there we finally got our entree's and I finally got my water refilled, and her sirloin was cold as long as the asparagus that was provided, she did not order a dessert because none of the two options were gluten free, I ordered a strawberry tart ganache. Since my girlfriend did not order a dessert the waitress said she would lower the price to accurate value of the meal instead of the whole $90 which never ended up happening, and I never ended up getting my dessert in the end so at the point I was ready to leave after 3-4 hours of a dissatisfied valentines dinner and $250 down the drain. Okay, date night in Newark. Love in the time of Covid. Let's talk about 1922. We managed parking right in front. The place wasn't crazy busy. Service was top notch and attentive. And fast. The food - this is what's interesting. For an appetizer, ordered the Brussels sprouts. These were done perfectly crispy - the accoutrements were a bit heavy, and I wish there were more Brussels sprouts, but damn, it was tasty. For dinner, I had the strip and broccolini, she had the baby steak and potato. Now, the meat was clearly a higher cut. It was tasty! But it could've used a little more seasoning. We both felt that for the price, it wasn't quite justifying it - while being tasty, and clearly a higher cut, it just wasn't enough to make me say "we couldn't do this at home." Let me drive home - they killed the temp, and are clearly using good cuts - except the fat on my strip wasn't rendered. Still good! Dessert - creme brûlée and strawberry cheesecake. Both were just - "okay." We weren't impressed - it was good, just not enough to justify the cost. Mixed drinks were really tasty as well. They're not crazy eccentric - no "Manhattan with hipster tears" - just a Manhattan that was perfectly made. We will be back in the future, for sure, but we have set expectations. read more

Normally for a birthday we will splurge and go downtown and try a new restaurant. With everything going on we decided to support local. If you haven't been please go this place is great. We've been to this location multiple times by multiple different restaurant names and this is by far the best times 10. We couldn't decide on appetizer so we just got all of them that we wanted. The oysters were fantastic and this is coming from somebody who's not a big fan of oysters. The tuna tartare was fantastic. He loves the avocado egg rolls. The dip with those is what made them. For our entree we both got filet with Oscar style. And shared jalapeno potato au gratin and macaroni and cheese. I wish the jalapeno potato au gratin had more jalapeno but it was still very good. But the macaroni and cheese was excellent. On top of that they give you some kind of garlic bread and that might have been his favorite thing all night. Definitely cost a pretty penny for all that but well worth it to celebrate a special occasion and support local. read more

1922 is a one star buffet with five star prices. Let me explain. My wife and I went to 1922 on a Saturday after Valentine's Day. We started with cocktails. Both of our glass had a sticky substances that kept getting stuck to our hands and the napkins they were placed on. The drinks themselves were good, no big deal move on. The server brough out some toasted garlic bread to start the night. It was toasted, but wasn't warm at all. It was fine. For an appetizer we decided to try the jerk chicken eggrolls. This might have been the most repulsive thing we have ever eaten. The chicken and vegetable filling had been cooked for so long that it was beginning to turn into a weird paste. If you've ever eaten fried liver it almost had that type of texture, but it wasn't liver... We both went with steaks and had their fingerling potatoes and Mac & Cheese for sides. Based on our experience so far we both ordered medium steaks figuring they wouldn't get it right, we were correct. Both came out medium-rare which was how we like it. The steaks were fine, but needed some seasoning. The potatoes were overcooked, dry, and devoid of any seasoning. The Mac & Cheese was cold, what little cheese sauce there was wasn't creamy, and for some reason there was un-melted yellow shredded cheddar cheese on top even though the description said it was "white cheddar". Coincidently, the couple sitting next to us sent back their food because they were also served cold food. The food was served so quickly that my only guess is that everything at 1922 that can be prepared in advance is cooked and placed in a buffet style warmer in the back and left to die. If you've ever eaten at buffet or a pot luck and you see all the food sitting in the warmer looking completely dehydrated. Yeah... that basically sums up our experience with 1922. We ended up spending $200 ($165 bill + $35 tip). This place wants so badly to be a up-scale restaurant with their menu selections and descriptions, but in reality it's just an overpriced lazy buffet serving cold, dead, unseasoned food. read more

The service in the bar was amazing! Heather and Rachel were attentive and helpful....I ordered the Copacabana cocktail and it was amazing! I ordered the baby beef tenderloin cooked medium, the baked potato and the tomato ricotta salad. The salad was super cold and really flavorful with a nice add of arugula and corn...it was a large portion so I had it boxed up so I could have leftovers. The filet was a little on the medium rare side but they fixed it immediately. It was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The baked potato was good too...what you'd expect with a good steak! Lastly, I can't forget to mention the delicious bread that is served when you order a meal. I don't know what's sprinkled on top of it but it was amazing. Our first time here by happen stance. This place is a diamond in the rough. Started with the calamari which was lightly breaded and cooked perfectly. Entrees were Gumbo which had a generous portion or andouille and was fantastic. King Crab special was equally delicious, portion was a little small for the price, but was very tasty. I took my guy here for his 50th birthday. My teenage daughter was with us. All 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We had the Brussel sprouts and calamari appetizers. Both were delicious. My daughter got a steak. It was cooked perfectly. The guy and I each got seafood. I can't remember which but we both enjoyed both. Not the best I've ever had but definitely worth it. Had a Sunday evening dinner and the dining room was warm and quiet. Our server was very attentive, but still gave us space to visit and order in shifts. The wine list has a wide variety of selections as well as the specialty drink menu. Everyone in our group of four ordered a different drink and all were pleased with the results. I got the Cabernet by the glass and it was a nice pour. On Sunday they offer a prime rib special in addition to the nightly chefs special. I ordered the prime rib, which was cooked perfectly to order and was accompanied by an ample portion of asparagus along with horseradish sauce. I definitely would recommend getting the prime rib special. We all got a different dish from trout and snapper to a burger. Great experience. read more

My wife and & I ate at 1922 tonight on a Christmas Date. We heard about 1922 from a friend and new we wanted to check out this new restaurant on the square in Newark. The decor is great! The bar is on one side and I think I saw seating on that side as well. The side we were sitting on had tables and some half booths. There also looked like there was a private room in the back. We were greeted very warmly and quickly. Our waitress sat us and immediately got our drinks. She did a fantastic job. We never had an empty cup all night. The bread they brought to the table was good, not amazing but good. I got the small 80 Acres Salad. I did ask for the dressing to be on the side, it didn't come that way. But it was dressed very lightly and the salad was excellent. Probably my favorite of the night. My wife got the 6oz beef tenderloin, it was very well seasoned. She got the Mac and cheese and chef veg special of the day brussel sprouts with goat cheese. The Mac and cheese was good, but she wished it was creamer. The sprouts were good, we ate them all, but wished there was more seasoning. My burger was very good. We both really liked it. I would get it again. We asked the waitress how new they were. She told us they opened 9 days before they were required to close for COVID restrictions. We were happy to support a new local restaurant. Do not recommend- we waited 30 minutes for someone to bring us water- the waitress ignored us and we continued to wait interminably long for everything - food, cocktails, check. The filet was magnificent! Everything else was sub par. Steak was terrible for the price. If I would go to a steakhouse. You would expect to have your steak flame grilled over an open fire or even a gas grill. Steak came out and looked as if it was made in the oven on broil. Also for being a $40 ny strip it had tendons and hard pieces all in it. Drinks were fine way too much dressing on caesar salad. Wow. I wasn't expecting this dining experience in Newark. Not that Newark is a bad place...quite the contrary. It's a great town, with an idyllic historic downtown square. It's just further way from major metropolitan areas than most chef's kitchen-type establishments tend to be. 1922 showed up on a Yelp search, and by all appearances had great ambience, and an interesting menu at the very least. This place isn't cheap, but that's not a bad thing. You get what you pay for. And though they charge Columbus prices, they're making world-class food. So from what I can tell, it's a bargain. The service was excellent. Our server was attentive, even as the restaurant got busier. And the food...I've already mentioned that it was world-class. It was restaurant week, and I got the prix fixe menu. Everything was fantastic. Go here if you're into food and wine (I tasted my dad's cocktail, and it was also great), or if you want to impress a date. Special occasions of any kind would work well here. Slightly formal atmosphere, but I felt comfortable in my casual pants, t-shirt, and Vans. Fine dining food without the fine dining pretense. If Chili's is your favorite restaurant, you may not love it here. But if you love trying new places, tend to gravitate toward local fare, and are looking for food in the Newark/Granville area, I highly recommend 1922. read more

This is the place to go for some awesome food. Decided to take my dad and his girlfriend out for a nice dinner before they leave to go back home and this place did not disappoint. Everything from the fried Brussel sprouts to the ahi tuna tartare was fantastic. We had an incredible meal here for my birthday. I had the prime rib ravioli and it was such a rich, flavorful dish. My husband had the prime rib, and he was singing its praises. Great table bread and the Brussels sprouts are really amazing. They're served with fig goat cheese and are roasted to perfection. Do you want a place that is just as good as Ocean Club or any place downtown but without the drive? This is it! This place is simply divine. We have had dinner here twice and the food has been incredible from appetizer through dessert. The 12oz NY Strip with Blue Cheese Brûlée is the best steak I've had in Central Ohio. We have nothing close to this caliber in Granville and we couldn't be happier to have a place that is trendy and local. Did I mention the prices can't be beat either? $30 gets you a perfectly cooked Strip. You can't beat it. Great ambiance in an historic property with fantastic service (ask for Morgan). Very nice location across from the courthouse. It has an old fashioned 20's feel. The ambience really set the tone of our evening. It seemed old but upscale and yet weirdly comfortable at the same time. The interior is very nice with booths and a nice long bar with seating. The service was excellent. We only came for drinks some cocktails and we tried a peanut butter whiskey. The servers and manager were efficient and friendly. We went to relax and we ended up having a really nice time. I don't usually do reviews, but was very disappointed in this experience. I ordered the special which was a filet and scallops. There was not a hot food item on my plate, everything was room temperature. Steak was dry and not much flavor. The prices are outrageous for what you are served and the quality of food is poor at best. I would not recommend this restaurant. It will be the first and last time I eat there. read more
