We had been planning for months to stop at Eastern Main Market Deli in Vermont for sandwiches and a…read morepicnic, and were excited when we finally arrived. The place looked great at first. Unfortunately, that changed quickly when I saw an employee loading the tomatoes and lettuce into the aluminum serving tins with her bare hands, directly scooping from a larger plastic storage bin. No gloves, no utensils. Just bare hands fully in the food. That's unsanitary and violates Vermont health code (§3-301.11), which prohibits bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat food. We left immediately without ordering. Completely unacceptable and disappointing.

Popped in and knew this was the right decision. Missed the special menu but the pesto flatbread sounded good. I went with the pot roast dinner which was phenomenal. Fell apart with a fork, vegetables were cooked spot on, and think they were deep fried mashed potatoes? That or panko covered. Ether way they were like cheese balls that were yummy. Service was excellent. The cashier had the best cheerful smile and attitude. She also served and bused the tables so she was always asking everyone one everything was. Place is inviting, I can only imagine what the vibe is in the morning when they serve breakfast. Probably will pop in when I head out of town to fuel up for the ride home. This place is definitely worth the stop not only because of what I wrote but because it's a local business and you should avoid the quick fast meal spots.

Even at room temperature it was that good, I can't imagine warmed up for a few seconds how much different it would be. The lemon bar was perfectly tart and not sour at all and smooth and creamy and again, all around amazing. The flavor of the scone was great, a little harder than I would have liked it to be, but it tasted great, and I'm sure with some coffee it would have been that much better when softened slightly. Nevertheless everything I got was amazing and wish it wasn't 700+ miles from home.

The thing that I found odd was when they freshly cut meats, they use sandwich hands with crumbs on them. I was desperate and hoped for the best but was glutened and go really sick. There was a lady working (Ashley maybe???) who had a child with allergies and she took over and was helpful. I was super apologetic at this time. She did everything she could to make the toppings and chopping portion safe. I wish I started with her! All in all, my allergies aren't against them but the food was delicious.
