We find that Subway usually works for us on long road trips. We stopped in Alturas at the Subway. The food was fine and people efficient. My complaint is the woman's restroom. The toilet would not flush, there was no soap to wash your hands and the paper towel dispenser was empty. Who ever owns the particular Subway needs to attend to the restrooms. read more

Wouldn't normally give a chain restaurant a 5-star review, but these aren't normal times. We stopped by two non-chain restaurants for lunch take-out and found that neither were following ANY safety measures for COVID-19. Subway was our third try, and we found that they were doing all the right things. We got our sandwiches and enjoyed them in the car with a reasonable certainty that neither us nor the staff got infected in the transaction. read more

Was staying in town and needed to grab a couple of sammiches for the next days lunch. Had a gift card for subway, somewhere I never eat because meh, so decided to stop here because it's Alturas. Not much going on. Wasn't expecting much but have to say we left pleasantly surprised. The guy behind the counter was a rock star. He carefully prepared the sandwiches and they looked like the ones you see on the subway ads. That never happens. They even tasted good a day later after sitting in a fridge overnight and a cooler until lunch. If I ever pass through Alturas again I would not hesitate to stop here again. read more

I went in to the Subway in Alturas, CA today at 7:15 pm. I ordered a spicy Italian with just salami the young gentleman only put 5 small pieces of salami on my footlong sandwich. The two gentleman only had their masks on over their mouths but not their noses and the girl at the register had no mask on at all. The one gentleman's pants were riding so low his entire butt was hanging out which I don't want to look at. Last but not least our gift card we had was declined. It is a $40 gift card which I called and checked on and the money is on it. A very unpleasant experience. read more

This is a plain jane Subway restaurant with the only benefit over most other Subways being that this is the only chain restaurant in town. Kinda makes it a big deal, right? There's nothing special but nothing particularly wrong with this location. It tends to be crowded but is pretty clean. The staff is generally pleasant as well. Subway in particular has pretty bland food and this one is no different than the others hence the rating. read more

We eat at a lot of Subway restaurants, particularly while we are traveling which is how we wound up at this one. There was one person working and she didn't seem thrilled about it. We are a family of six so I understand that it feels a bit like the bus let out when we walk in. I had everyone's order and began ordering the sandwiches. My husband gets pastrami and every Subway ever has heated the pastrami upAND then toasted the bread but that didn't happen here so it didn't taste as good as normal. They had no soup which I was bummed about as it was freezing and soup sounded good. They offer the green tea honey iced tea, which is my favorite but neither that nor the regular iced tea were filled. I don't mean they ran out, they weren't even in use. (Just like the soup). When we went to pay, I wanted to use my Subway app which had a $2 coupon. She seemed wildly confused as to how that functioned and we were unable to apply it. That super bummed me out. And, not surprisingly at this point, there are no changing tables in the bathroom. The sandwiches tasted fine and it's what you'd expect. I do want to say that she was conscientious about closing the glass onto the food when she wasn't making a sandwich and I thought that was good. read more

Normally I don't go for bagged vegetables...but I made an exception and to be honest I hoped for more. I can let the mystery meat and stale veggies go to the way side but the service was TERRIBLE. The staff was composed of high school workers that had terrible attitudes. They went skimpy on the veggies and the meat looked moldy. Only put 2 stars for pity. read more

If I end up with any fraud on my credit card, I'll know why! I'm sure the employee wasn't actually stealing my information, but analyzing my credit card, then asking for my driver license and analyzing it, then requesting a signature on a receipt that doesn't require a receipt is a bit odd. Asking for ID alone is against the merchant agreement, though I recognize that state law may void that in California. Still, bad business practice. we've had sandwiches here before. but on last Monday we got sabdwiches abd drove to a spot out of the cold wind to eat them. i commented to my wife that they must have added extra salt to my order. she ate a little of hers and remaked that the salt was in the bread. she was right. the bread on both of our sandwiches was so salty that it was hard to eat them. no complaints from previous sandwuches we've had from this store. don't know why the bread was so salty this time. read more

So I wrote an earlier review about how this subway was out of 3 different meats. Fast forward to today I had my 2 grand kids wanted pizza for lunch ( I didnt given the fact they only want cheese since they are only 3 and 8 ). So I thought I would give subway a 2nd chance and I could have a wrap and the kids could each have a personal pizza. WRONG! They where out of pizzas. If I could now give this place a negative 100 star review, I would! Seriously...horrible staff. Arrived last Sunday at 10am and no one was around, but one other couple at a table. There was 3 of us, and I ordered first. I said "extra cheese" she put on spaced out, random cheese. "Can I have more?" I asked. "Sure, but it'll cost extra for triple". What?!?! She considered that doublt?????? "OK" I responded. She then proceeds to put hardly any more cheese on. Whatever I think, as I don't need the extra cholesterol anyway. So she passes my sandwich on to the other worker and she gets to the mayo, and she puts LITERALLY ONE LAYER SWIPE ACROSS. I ask for more. She LITERALLY ADDS ONE MORE SWIPE. I then ask for more and she just starts GLARING AT ME and adds some more. SERIOUSLY, this is what happened. My sister had a similar experience behind me regarding the pickles. So the only thing I can think of is that the owner of this location stresses to it's employees to go lean on the toppings. But combine that with rude glares and stares, we'll never be back and that's a shame, because it seems to be the only restaurant open on Sundays in Alturus. read more

We get Subway sandwiches often and they have been much better than this one. Here at Alturas, the employees were not very friendly. Our young grandson ordered a chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich with lettuce and mayonnaise only. My husband and I ordered ours, they were okay, we were hungry. Our grandson's sandwich did not have the avocado he ordered and the chicken pieces were frozen. So all he had to eat was a sandwich with cold bacon and lettuce. We went to the park to eat, so we didn't go back to ask about the frozen chicken and lack of avocado. We remembered after we left this was not the only place in town to get food. The little restaurant in the hotel was pretty good. Wish we had gone there instead ... if we remembered. Or, tried the Chinese restaurant we passed on way to this Subway. Hope we remember not to eat at this Subway again. Need to pack a lunch next time we travel through. The only thing good about this place is the bread which is basic at all Subways. read more
